When my maternal grandfather moved into his apartment, my uncle showed him the 911 on his phone and to emphasize the point, he dialed it. He had to tell the person who answered there was no emergency and was politely reminded to please not call 911 IF THERE WAS NO EMERGENCY. Grandpa was in that apartment for at least a decade and, thankfully, never needed to actually call 911 for an emergency.
True Story: years back, my Maritimer grandfather cut his thigh quite deeply with his chain saw and refused to call 911. Instead he calmly came inside, shaved, put his good "town" clothes on, and then drove himself to the hospital 30 minutes away. My grandmother, a retired nurse, called them up to warn them he'd be coming. To this day, he's surprised at how friendly and helpful everyone was there who greeted him, and the best part of all: no waiting! 😂
The operator clearly has not been trained, they actually answer like this 911 what is your location? Do you need fire ambulance or police? What is the emergency?
I suppose people in a place like Newfoundland probably think that no one ever gets badly injured there, fires are uncommon, and there are no serious crimes, so it won't hurt just to check that the 911 system works and maybe console the lonely operator on the other end?
Once when we had a network outage the phone said "emergency calls only" so I tested it (triple 0 here in Oz) and couldn't get through/no signal. Glad I didn't have a real issue,, could've been drastic.
Thank you Lab/Nfld for the comic genius you have shared on 22 minutes for 3 decades!

I mean... You don't wait during a trauma injury... Seconds count.
One of a few gems to actually come from the CBC.
I just called them, they said everything is fine
Ha Ha Ha, oh that is so funny. Maybe do a sequel about how long it takes a 911 operator to wind up with PTSD.

Yeah, people can be jerks in ten thousand ways when they have something nice instead of appreciating it.
