  • QNAP QHora-301W Hardware Review - ALOT to live up to! nascompares.com/2020/11/12/qn...
    Earlier this year when I first learnt about the release of the QNAP QHora-301W router, I think it would be fair to say that I was impressed. Wi-Fi 6 protocol has already been around commercially for more than a year and I have already reviewed numerous AX class routers throughout that time here on the site. Arriving with an 8 internal antenna architecture, switch capabilities over four Gigabit LAN ports and even two 10Gbe connections, this is the first big move from QNAP into the field of routers for business use. Already stretching out of the subject of NAS and into an extended world of network switches and interface upgrades, the QHora-301W represents the first device to branch out towards completely facilitating your entire office network needs. The keyword here is business, with the QHora-301W arriving at £350, it is certainly a jump up from your average bog-standard free ISP router in price too though. So today we want to review the QNAP QHora-301W and find out whether it's home and business class hardware and features deserve a place in your network environment in 2021. Let's begin.

    thank you a great review - this channel is slowly becoming my go to place for network devices and gear.

    Please increase the audio volume of your videos as they are significantly quieter compared to other youtube videos. Great content!

      I have to agree with this comment. I watch a lot of UA-cam videos and none have as low an audio level as yours, I have many times had to stop a video because in a normal household I can not hear it without getting frustrated.
      I do enjoy those I can hear though.

      Yup, I have to agree. I am new to this channel and this is just my second video! But yes, your volume is way lower. Great stuff though! I have subscribed. :D

    I like the idea of putting the antennas inside and being protected. I have an ASUS RT88 and two of the antennas accidentally snapped off when just plugging in ethernet cables. It was quite disappointing .
    Note that having the antennas inside prevents using a metal case, as the metal case will shield the wireless electromagnetic transmissions.

    Does it have a 6 GHz radio aka Wi-Fi 6E? If not, I’ll wait. I want to implement clean 160 MHz channels on the 6 GHz band so I don’t have to worry about DFS and radar as I now have to do in the 5 GHz band.

    Just FYI.. One reason that you see manufacturers including a cat5E cable and not a cat 6 and up is because of shielding.
    In Europe, when you want to specify that your device is also for shielded cables, as you must do when included in the box, means that you need to perform a whole suite of additional EMC testing in order to obtain CE marking.
    If they fail the tests, which is easy for immunity testing, they just say "oh, we only support non shielded cables" and then they pass the testing.

    Metal case would act as a shield to the wi-fi signal.

    Can you please make a video about the speed for 10 GBit connected to NAS and also what kind of speed can be expected over wifi pushing files to a NAS connected.

    I have a Qnap NAS, their TS-873A-8G 8 Bay and have added on 2 of their TR-004's plugged into their big brother. However my laptop only has a 1GB ethernet connection, how best to get the higher speeds like the 2.5GB so I can work on editing from the boxes? Right now, I just have an ethernet cable plugged from the laptop into the 873A so only see the speed it provides. Obviously not acceptable for editing video over this connection. I was looking at my internal wifi card and it does look like it can be updated to a 2.5GBps version, right now the Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX411 Gig+ looks like it is the best on the market.

    This router is good... but still needs MORE features to equal the Synology routers.
    Moreover... It needs a restart EVERYDAY... sometimes multiple times... device doesn't crash... just drops internet connection and requires a restart.
    Running latest firmware 1.2.0.0001
    I checked maybe the device is overheating (my room is cold with AC set to 25C)... I placed two laptop "coolers" on both sides of the router. Hot air is pulled using these coolers. Right side gets 26-28C... Left side gets between 30 to 36C. Will try placing laptop cooler below the device and see if it

      Some said the need for rebooting was the fast roaming being enabled. Do you still have this router and if so, have any issues been resolved?

      Amazing device!
      Great security features and control... visibility over the whole network and devices is epic.

    Is the following possible: I have two ISP’s and I want to connect ISP1 to 1Gb Port 1 and second ISP2 to 1Gb Port 2. Load balance both 1Gb’s port together and send internet traffic to 10Gb port to network ?

    • @nascompares
      @nascompares  3 роки тому

      In theory, yes, But I would be hesitant to confirm without testing for myself. Especially when the load balancing will be managed at the 1Gbe end by 2 client/networks. Like 2 smaller pipelines feeding into a bigger pipeline. They might both run in fine, but the turn by turn nature of LB is gonna be tough if the flow from each pipeline is irregular. I generally LB from a client machine towards a switch. Let me know if you test this and the results, as it is V interesting

      @@nascompares I plan to do the following:
      BT Fibre (1GB) -> 1GB Port 1 (QNAP)
      Virgin (600MB) -> 1GB Port 2 (QNAP)
      QNAP - LB - Port 1 and 2
      QNAP - Send and Receive Network Traffic on 10GB Port 1 and connect this to my 10GB Port on my Ubiquiti Dream Machine Pro (WAN Port)
      However, Ive not purchased QNAP yet and hoping if someone can setup a similar setup (as above) and prove if the above can work.

    This has been reduced on Amazon but it has some poor reviews. Was looking for a WiFi 6 rougher that can work with VM giga fibre and all connect to
    My 10gb switch which is connected to my iMac and synology nas via 10gbe
    This looks like it ticks all the boxes but has horrible reviews on Amazon
