1 good ole boat that we weren’t sure floated
    1 questionable 25hp 2 stroke outboard
    …..and almost 3000km round trip.
Yeah yeah I’m sorry about the audio, don’t worry I’ve since replaced my trusty iPhone X with a new iPhone 11, I know it’s not a fancy 12 pro but hey, oilfield money ain’t what it used to be 😞🤣
Last video with choppy audio I PROMISE!!!
This was taken back around the 1st of August so yeah the weather looks quite nice and believe me we hit it just perfectly to take such a small boat out as far as we did, I had a friend tell me several days after we left that his 30’ charter wouldn’t leave the dock it was so rough!
But if you are interested in how this all came about with a spur of the moment trip then by all means read on….
I was just wrapping up my 2 week summer holiday visiting some family and friends in the okanagan when i got a message from Ben (Hinterland Outdoors) that he purchased a “new” boat…. I seem to recall it went something like…
:Ben: hey I just bought a new boat
:Me: that’s awsome! Let’s go fishing!
    :Ben: sure, when and where?
:Me: Salmon an halibut are in season.
    :Ben: sure, let’s do it!
Next thing you know I’m leaving Vernon BC on Thursday evening, spent the night just east of Jasper and carried on to Valleyview where I repacked the truck, picked Ben and his boat up and proceeded to head down the pine pass towards Port Edward, we overnighted just north of Prince George, stopped in Smithers the next day to buy licenses and tackle then made Port Edward on Saturday night and launched Sunday morning.
We setup camp near Porcher Island at the entrance to Welcome Harbour on a small island for the evening and soaked some crab traps overnight while we pulled out rock fish after rock fish working our way around the small islands in the area, we checked our traps before calling it a night and wound up with a nice midnight snack of Dungeoness crab and a single red rock crab…
The next day we packed up camp and fished our way back to Port Edward after retrieving some more crabs and pulling our pots, we both took a few turns trying to pull up the bottom of the ocean between catching our fill of rock fish, soul, cod and all manner of fish I’d never seen before…. We actually cought just about everything BUT halibut… I even jigged a coho and almost had it in the boat but it spit the hook 🙄
What an amazing trip…. I can see making it an annual thing, next time tho…. Maybe a little bigger boat and a few extra days to enjoy it tho 👍

Pretty cool trip! That boat seems to have done the job quite well and conditions were beautiful! Been to Prince Rupert for one night on my way to Alaska by ferry. Pretty cool place!

Proof that you don't need $250,000 worth of boat and gear to go ocean fishing.
