"I would like to submit to you that the only tru rebel and revolutionary is the one who does OBEDIENCE, the one who submits himself and his will, the one who does not obey the latest trends. Does NOT obey and follow after the fashion, is NOT a victim of the tyranny of fashion. One who does NOT obey his OWN SICK WILL but that of CHRIST. That person is a true revolutionary and the only who is truly rebelling against the spirit of this world. That's the true Christian" Father Peter Heers. Again an amazing teaching. Thank you.
I'm truly amazed by Fr. Peter's wisdom and honesty. He's straight-forward and he clearly loves the Church and God. Luckily I can learn from him through internet, but I wish I had a priest like him to be my spirirual father.
This talk sounds like it was given yesterday, in August 2020. It is timeless. I have been thinking that I am in the wrong for not wanting to put on a mask and avoid kissing the holy things in the temple. If the fullness of Christ were more real to us all, there would be no question as to how we obey Christ and his teachings first and foremost.
1:03ish "It's really the presuppositions that are going into these questions..." Bam! Father Peter hits the nail on the head. The secularism we are swimming in creates false presuppositions that subtly dictate our ability (disability) to discern the way.
Listen to this 1 time, 2 times and again and again. Every holy book I often have to read 7 times before I really "get it". Sometimes I have to do the same with lectures like this. Timeless truth. Fr Peter Heers has the gift of formulating things that where before vague feelings and acknowledgements somewhere deep inside me for years. But I could not verify it. Listening to Fr peters Heers let me say: "Yes, this is exacly what my feeling was, but you put it in words". So I can write it down and read it, again and again.
Hours 1:08:16 "You know why? MOST OF THE TIME WE DON'T REALLY HATE THE SIN, WE LIKE THE SIN, and we CARESS THE SIN. But we know we feel bad about it because we know theoretically: It's not a good thing what I'm doing but we go back again and again like a dog went back to its vomit, that's kind of what we do in many ways, because we ultimately we have NOT come TO HATE IT, because WE DO NOT REALIZE WHAT IT'S TAKING AWAY FROM US ..."
This is exactly what I was looking for and it addressed all my questions about obedience. Thank you so much Fr. Peter, and it is very applicable to what's going on in the world today. Most situations, as you said, are best resolved by discussing them personally with one's spiritual father and being obedient to him as well.
1:9:29 St. Ignatius Brianchaninov said that all the virtues are a take on eternal consequences when they're done for the Person of Christ. And only when they're done for the Person of Christ.
Just as with a spiritual father, who it is said, even an initiate can and should discern has the right ethos, when we are with the Father, in his protection, we want nothing more but to please and submit to him for our own good, as nothing but good comes from him to us. Not that we do not suffer from this good. As that is not possible. But we understand, as a child who is corrected by the loving hand of their earthly father or mother or holy father, that it, the correction, comes from true love. That we are safe, loved and learning how to be in the fallen world to maintain this safety and well being is very clear. Obedience then is natural and strong to death. Jesus is the way to the Father and their Holy Spirit. Glory to God.
Hi Blessed and loving father this is Andrew Klados in getting back to you regarding yesterdays Message I had sent to you , thanks be to God I think I don’t have it , my symptoms improved today , I went to get tested and will find out the results in 2 to 3 days . Thank you so kindly for your brilliant and Holy Spirit filled teachings 😊🙏🏻
Is it not my path to have a Spiritual Father, to be Baptized?! I have been in Liturgy already with the Old and New Church. I have been formed through both. Helped and guided in the miracle of salvation. But I have been told I am to choose from between them for myself. I cannot see a way to chose and know I am yet obedient to God. Instead I will be forgo my own life in the visible Church for now. I will pray unceasingly that a way will be found and I will have a Church to call home. If it is Gods will. It seems for me the visible Church is now blocked. Every day all day long I beseech God to show me which one I should choose. He is silent on this measure as He works instead on my salvation. I being great amongst sinners of this terrible secular age. Pray for me Father Peter. May God have mercy.
What was said about technology reminds me of what the orthodox Icon Carver Jonathan Pageau says about technology and its relation to the garments of skin that were given to Adam and Eve after the fall.

Father, bless! I believe you mentioned in your lecture that you would explain more about holy disobedience in the second part of the talk. Was there a second lecture?
I don’t have a formal spiritual father...he died after I was baptized...every person I’ve asked to be my spiritual father has said no...my husband is a former Deacon of 30 years and is very wise and loving and a great servant of God with his beeswax candle business since 1998. I was a very controlling wife but I’ve been struggling to practice the Orthodox faith since only 2014. Can I look to my faithful husband as my spiritual father and strive to be more obedient to him since I don’t have anything else but books?
And this is why the younger women are struggling because the older women have failed us miserably. If you aren't already 100% obedient to your current husband, and you went on to obey another man, that would be disrespectful to your current husband. If you haven't met that criteria, why would God give you another man to submit to if you haven't fully submitted to the one he has already given you? @@mango38628 I’m talking about the difference between a “spiritual father” and my husband. I strive to be obedient to my husband in daily life. The spiritual father is for ones prayer life and prayer rule…
An excellent and informative talk... however I feel sorry for the priest who has to endure such questions afterwards from those who have obviously not been listening or have alterior motives and want to put the priest on the spot... shame on you 🙏☦️♥️
I really related to this talk and found it really nourishing... But I have to disagree with the negativity around ecumenicalism. Ecumenicalism is not secularism. Anglicans have always held to the Nicene Creed. Think of our history. It was not our fault that a King decided to break from Rome. Most people have little power over what the governing worldly forces of the day decided to do about religion. I live in England where Anglicanism is the optional state religion (though who knows for how much longer). Over the past 500 years it has become our tradition, and because of some clever and dedicated people of faith back in the 1500's we have preserved much older traditions and teachings from the early fathers in the face of great adversity. When we pray for Christian unity we are sincere. God knows our hearts, he knows the reality of a sincere offering. If I had been raised in Greece, maybe I would be Orthodox. What can we learn from each other? When will we recognise that though we are many (and many denominations) we are one body because we all share in one bread? God bless ALL my brothers and sisters who have come to Christ by whatever path God laid before them. The truth is, if you repent and accept Christ as your saviour, and choose to follow Him in your daily life, you become His Church. "By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." (John 13) Different denominations need to start to love one another, to learn from one another, to forgive one another and to strive together to discern and do God's will.
