I sent you guys a message the other day. Looking for some help with editing video. Don't want to have to search on youtube constantly to find answers where learning in a 1 on 1 format would work much better. I am an amateur stream and looking to invest heavily in some tutorial sessions. I know its a strange request, but please consider it. Tried searching on Twitter and Redditt, get the same response everywhere: UA-cam and Google. Thats now how I catch on and quicker and easier to learn from direct, hands on knowledge. Thanks

Before anyone makes comments about how terrible the circus and freak show was, remember that there was no support system for disabled or handicapped people until the last quarter of the 20th century. This was their best chance at a normal life and many of them lived very well.

I was just saying that ( and writing ) .
      @ 4:03 , I was stunned to see him .
I mean after decades of only knowing about him in the film “ Freaks “, it was nice to see him , in another clip .
Now I know a guy who looks pretty identical to the Schlitzie in that scene .
Only the guy I know is more of a pain in the you know .
No childlike personality at all !!
Not a very nice person .
So when I read about Schlitzie, and his child like condition , and I see him in this quick scene with a beard and hair , I now wonder about his condition .
      It’s like 2 different people !
In “ Freaks “, was that all acting ????
It was pretty convincing I tell ya .

Schlitzie ended up in a better support system than most for the time period. And he deserves to be remembered in a favorable light.

This is so crucial... I mean aren't parents supposed to love their child? I know, he had disabilities, he was different from the others, but doesn't this make them love him even more? Doesn't this made them feel sad about him? Didn't they got sad when the thought of how people would treat their own child if he goes to the circus crossed their mind? But i guess they cared only about themselvs and maybe weren't ready for a child. I'm so sorry about him, he is amazing the way he is, i really wanna hug him ❤️😔

I went straight in the 70s, but every once in a while I catch myself remembering the days of being "with it".

Schlitzie got his grave marker through the efforts of Scott Michaels, the “Find A Death” guy whose tours of famous Hollywood death sites have been thrilling and educating curious tourists for years. Unfortunately, I’ve heard that he is closing his business this year. 😱 Let’s hope someone is interested enough to carry on this work, or else a lot of history will be forgotten.

He was happy doing what he did. He got to travel, play in movies, had friends that treated him like family and protected him. Better than being without a job, family & friends and sitting in an institution all depressed and ignored. Alot of people who are without blemishes can be the most miserable & unloved.

It sounds like Schlitzie was treated a lot better than I was. Performers were always much better treated than the roustabouts. The food sucked and you only paid about $75 a week. And this was in the early 80s.

For the time he probably had the best life one with his disability could get. He was well looked after and cared for, and in fact he was very happy performing for people, becoming depressed when he couldn't for periods of time. Rember back then there was no sort of state assistance. He lived a happy life well taken care of in a time that didnt care for the disabled. That's not a sad life in my book.

For the past 15-20 years, the lives for people with mental disabilities is much better than it ever been. They are leading such productive happier lives living with their biological or foster families. I make a living working with people like Schlitzie and enjoy it a lot. So much fun.

@@ericwarner3150 you speak to your understanding of a good living. I don't need to read history to understand the present information, all I need is my own senses. There is an obvious difference between this person and what could be considered the average side show worker. The fact that he was taken care of like a pet and shipped between shows and performances like a living stage prop is a big difference between the dwarves and bearded women.
