Great video. But don't forget about the FLATTEN option in isync. Mutt does not like hierarchical folder structures and if you have other folders besides inbox they may not show up in Mutt unless you use the flatten option in isync.

isync is so old... offlineimap is newer and still maintained - I would recommend it if it weren't so damn slow - syncing mail for me takes about 10 minutes for 57 maildirs with over 712k mails total... it would be great if there was a tool that could retrieve and sync mails as they come, but I have not found one yet
Hello Luke great Video! What do you think About running a Mailserver at home? Is it a good idea? I'm not sure … but when HIllary could do it .. it could not be that big challenge...
Thank you for the video and the series on mutt. I assume that you prefer isync over offlineimap. is that a fair statement? If so, why? I built my neomutt configuration using your wizard, which uses offlineimap and I am curious about this new choice :).
Offlineimap uses old python 2 modules that are prone to breaking and there are just a lot of pains and ideosyncracies to it. There was a big breakage involving Gmail accounts recently too which happened months ago and is still a problem I think. It's just annoying and mbsync actually has more options.
Yes, the Gitlab version of mutt-wizard already has made the switch to isync: gitlab.com/LukeSmithxyz/mutt-wizard I'll be abandoning offlineimap support soon for various reasons and the Github version will reflect that once I troubleshoot some things.
@@ngortheone offlineimap is slower bigger and older. offlineimap is actually going to be deprecated soon in favour of a newer program called imapftw (I think that's the name) it's made by the same guys
Mbsync question: I wrote a small shell script that uses notify-send to let me know that mbsync has downloaded new mail. It is triggered by a incron job that watches for new files in the new directory of mbsync. If I copy, move, or create a file in the new directory incron triggers and the script runs. However, when mbsync downloads a new email to the new directory, nothing happens. Ideas?
When offline and creating new messages or replying to messages this won't work, except saving as draft and then sending when online again. Or did I miss something here.
That's actually just a custom script I have: github.com/LukeSmithxyz/voidrice/blob/master/.scripts/i3cmds/hover I have `hover left` mapped to super+B and `hover right` mapped to super+N. That will just resize the window to hover in the bottom left or right. I mostly use it for watching videos while doing something else.
Check out this article discussing setting up Gmail on mbsync, you have to set up each one as a separate channel. pragmaticemacs.com/emacs/migrating-from-offlineimap-to-mbsync-for-mu4e/
A step by step video series like this is immensely more valuable than a soy auto wizard, thanks for getting back to this format.

712k mails? Nigga why the fuck do you need a 10 year backlog of spam emails?
it may be old but it doesn't require obsolete python2 packages
Mutt Cockly sounds like Barney Rubble's lawyer.
How much do you pay for email monthly/yearly? I'm interested in setting up smtp/imap on my home server.
I use a 3.5 dollar a month vps from vultr to host my mail server and websites and git server
It Works!!! Thanks, Luke
In Gmail you can create application password in order to access acoount without "less secure access" flag.
Awesome subject (pun intented), keep up the email videos :D

How do you deal with spam using isync and neomutt ?
Isync does not sync sent mail, trash or drafts in Gmail. Only inbox
