  • The Battle of Crécy took place on 26 August 1346 in northern France between a French army commanded by King Philip VI and an English army led by King Edward III. The French attacked the English while they were traversing northern France during the Hundred Years' War, resulting in an English victory and heavy loss of life among the French.

Unfortunately, like all these animated recreations, you've missed the most important part of the battlefield, which determined the disposition and movements of both armies. From the Route de Fontaine in the south almost to Wadicourt in the north, the Vallee des Clercs is lined to the west with a 45-degree overgrown bank ranging from 2 to 6 metres deep, over which an armoured man-at-arms would have trouble passing, and a mounted knight had no chance at all. It's a geological feature that was there in 1346, and if you look for it, you can still follow its line on Google maps after nearly 7 centuries of ploughing the surrounding fields. I doubt the French knew of its existence until their scouts stumbled across it, but one would imagine Edward did when he chose to defend the ridge to the west. It's presence meant the French army had to march in close formation up the Fontaine road under the arrows of the English and Welsh archers on the ridge, and then deploy across the Black Prince's battle-front, all the while being shot at distances of around 200 yards before they even began to advance. It's for this reason that the Prince's Battle bore the brunt of the fighting. The huge disproportion in dead between the two armies suggests very few of the French charges even closed with the ranks of English men-at-arms and archers, or the Welsh archers and spearmen. But however many actually did, they didn't come in long lines stretching across the valley north to south between Wadicourt and Crecy. Edward's choice of battlefield, like Wellington's 470 years later, was one of the key determinants in deciding the outcome of the battle.

That would be amazing , Waterloo maybe could be possible but the numbers were huge at around 210'000 men on the battlefield so that could be a challenge. Also some of the Napoleonic battles were spread across massive areas ,Vitoria for instance was spread across 20 miles so they may be very tricky if its even possible. Personally I think these style animations at this scale are perfect for Rome battles , Viking battles and Byzantine battles , the crusades would be great too , basically the whole classical and medieval period , oh and pike and shot period would fit perfectly also!

Blows my mind all the horses in the initial charge were wounded in 30 seconds. So wild to comprehend that absolute madness.

    Nice work.
I've been struggling for more than a year with 3D animated battles, and I usually don't get much more than 10k to 20k views within a year.
I'm really interested to know how you got so many views on your initial video. Are they organic or paid views?

@@battlesin3d70 Hmm, that's pretty interesting indeed.
Don't get me wrong, your work is lovely, and your voice-over is excellent.
I was under the impression that a groundbreaking 3D concept would help my channel to make a breakthrough, and indeed your performance proves that 3D animated battles have the potential to attract a huge audience very quickly.
Feel free to check out my work when you have time. I've been struggling with 3D animated battles for over a year now, and the results range from flat-out complete flops to 29k views within 7 months, which is my "best" performance on a 3D video.
Maybe the vo? It could also be that the topic is pretty "hot" right now?
Lately, I suspected that there could be something wrong with my channel -algorithm related, and your performance kinda strengthens this impression...
      But I'm not sure.
I love your work, by the way. I wish you all the best in this endeavour, but it's obvious you will perform much better than me.

Hi, I would maybe try a different thumbnail style (say a top down battleline). More Military less computer game.
