Darwin="10 extra calories, so, I'd say it's a pretty good dinner myself".
Me= looks down at entire large pizza I just ate all by myself...*feels shame*
I try to imagine what it is like to walk 25 to 30 miles a day in such moutainous and difficult terrain. At the age of 66, with a pace-maker, it takes me all day to go ten miles on fairly even terrain........ah, to be young again. Walk on, love your videos, Darwin.
Thanks! This is such a great x-section of your days, your trek - - we at home love to see this, and the gear / techniques that keep you at home on the trail. Keep on keeping on! The Bowl, the water, the 'stop', the snake, the not-getting-blown-over ... done up to dinner; catching more tomorrow! - Thanks. /paul/
Love your videos man! You’ve inspired this Aussie hiker to start planning a future thru hike in the big US of A! 🙏🏻 love your style.... so appreciate your efforts in documenting your journey.
Bruce Lockland . Im an aussie hiker too.
Antonia Baker cool 👍🏻 I’m in Melbourne.
Just to say - loving this series, the pacing, the commentary, photography, information and abundance of good spirit that you're encountering along the way! Been following from the start and will be there at the end, good luck and safe walking in the sierra! Best wishes from Vancouver :)
I STOP WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS FOR 6 MONTH AND YOU ARE AT 100,000 SUBSCRIBERS!!! CONGRATULATIONS! Hope this thru hike helps you evolve even more
Way to go, 700! Thank for the video and the inspiration. I like that you share the views, the local wildflowers, the local wildlife and your trail experiences. It's appreciated.
I like that you show what you eat, packing up, where you camp, town stuff...not all hiker show that stuff. Make it more personable ☺️
Amber Canaan he shows what it's really like on the trail. Love these videos
Me too. I thrive off that day to day stuff.
Josh Herod Outdoor Adventures Yes! Otherwise I might think that it’s all beautiful scenery and that’s it.
Agreed! I was thinking the same thing.
One of the things I really enjoy about your videos is your music is quieter background, not equal to your speaking
6:20 keep up this quirky attitude man. Love it!
You know life is simple when a packet of soy sauce adds a "moment" to your meal.
I like seeing the camp and food prep. I've watched many videos that talk about what to do, but I also like to see the theory put into practice. Thank you for your videos and sharing your adventures
Love this area & yes, the 'amenities' in KM have changed over the years. Can't wait for the next episode!
I have a soft spot for Chimney Peak and Long Valley Campgrounds. They really are hidden gems. We could hike the Kern River and Plateau. As of yesterday Kennedy Meadows and above campgrounds are still safe from the active fire in the area.
I love you Darwin, you make me so happy
Darwin, really enjoy your videos,so inspirational, calming, peaceful.Hope your hike thru the Sierras goes as smooth as the previous miles have been.
congrats on the 100k sub man! you're one of the youtubers who inspired me to get out there to hike, camp and bike pack! thank you so much!
Glad your shin seems to be a lot better. Had us worried for a little bit.
Great videos Darwin! Thanks for taking me along.
I was clapping for you when you got to Kennedy Meadows! Congratulations! Love your videos. Stay safe!
Congrats on 100k subs dude!
Lots of bears by Bullfrog Lake near Kearsarge Pass... Everytime I have camped up there over the years we had a bear visit during the night.
im from scotland but i regularly follow the pct on instagram looking at posts etc, maybe 5 weeks ago i started following a girl and her sister walking it and its the same people at 10:37, so strange seeing them on here but obviously makes sense haha
Thank you for your efforts on the trail with the camera and filming. Great videos! Greetings from Germany
Video was worth the wait!! You inspire us all to want to get into the outdoors I'm sure. Keep up the fantastic work!
Great video. Watch you every week and look forward to each episode and seeing the Sierras. Stay safe!
Good luck and be safe in the Sierras. A few hikers/climbers have already died in the past 6 weeks or so on/around Mt. Whitney.
Love the way you used the background music in these videos/ and the selection. Good job~
Watching you day hike the rim to rim in the grand canyon inspired me to do the same. Hiked north to south rim two days ago, June 12, in 10.5 hours with a peak temperature of 107 degrees. I'll be in California tomorrow and hoping to get a walk in permit for the JMT. Maybe I'll run into you on the trail.
Hike on,
Jack
Great videos, living vicariously through you, thank you
Really enjoying your hike along the PCT. You are preparing for snow , ice and cold temps as you hike along. That has to be nice plus you have a puffy jacket on as you tell us about everything. Here in Florida we are in the triple digits for the heat index with Super storms ( lighting and heavy wind thunder storms ) almost every day. Since it's hurricane season naturally there is Tropical storm talk for next week. As the realtors like to say , location , location , location in this case it really determines the weather. lol
Congratulations on 100,000k+ subscribers!
in lue of waterproof socks you could use bread bags over your socks it worked well in the snow when I was a kid
really enjoy your trek. Can't wait for next week
Wonderful video. Almost relaxing to watch your stuff. you never seem to be under duress
Bishop and Mammoth two wonderful places!
Darwin I always like your videos but this one was extra special. Thanks
Looking forward to your Sierra's vids. I have a friend who is in the John Muir Wilderness part of the PCT. His pics are spectacular.
I’m enjoying your journey. Thank you for sharing.
Be careful out there...You are in my neck of the woods now...JMTish ! I'll be on the trail going the opposite direction on August 11th. Happy Hiking to you !
Whoo hoo finally. Love this pct hike Darwin. Awesome.
Thanks for the updated info about KM. Its time to start some new traditions methinks...
Videos keeping getting more refined. Great job.
Surprised you didn’t film reaching the river, thought it would be such a refreshing sight to end the desert!
I bought waterproof socks but havent had a chance to try them out . Bought a waterproof beanie too.
Seems you were prepared:) Glad you had time with Snuggles 💙 I'm enjoying your hike
I will say, the problem with watching a lot of these hiking videos, is that I get sympathy hunger. I could kill for a pizza right now.
Good to see your episode. Seems like a day late? I'm glad your health is good. Looks like you are ready for the Sierra. Happy trails. I'll be in Yellowstone by the time you post next week.
Thanks. Really enjoying your trip.
I just backpacked that area.. I hope you stop at jordan hotsprings, that place is awesome, we spent a few days there. really worth it.
Thanks for videoing and sharing!
I enjoy your videos and appreciate your insights. I haven't seen you mention using a compass while backpacking to supplement and work with maps. There's an old saying that you should never trust your life on a battery (phone, GPS…). Your thoughts on compasses would be appreciated. Do you carry a compass and if so, which one? Thank you.
absolutely love these videos. im constantly on the look out for little tips and tricks as well as hiking etiquette, of which you seem to be well aware of.. might you find some time to mix them in???? your a beast man, good luck and keep on hammering
Darwin has a whole playlist of Q&A. Check it out.
i dont want to freak you out because I'm sure you have had flagstaff locals hit you up. I work at fratelli pizza so I could hook It up with that PIZZA but also graduating from nau with parks and rec degree and going off to CO to be river raft guide this summer. Your content is gold man keep it up and I hope we run into each other somewhere down the road
grew up right next to san Jacinto wilderness for 18 years of my life then enjoyed flagstaff so much now off to explore CO
spoiled so cal boy exploring the rest of the world! like I said though if you need that local pizza discount let me know! if you live in flag and do not get a pizza discount you're doing it wrong
im the pizza tosser it is my espcial
I think I must be the leading vlogger this year. I’m sure Darwin will catch me, let’s see.
Great video! I like your style, very relaxing.
Super nice video!
Congratulations on 100K!
Can't wait until you get to NorCal and the Pacific Northwest.
You seem really invigorated in this video! Seems like you can smell the sierras. :) Enjoy!
Brilliant
Loving your journey. Thank you
Hey Darwin, curiously as to why you went with the smaller BV450 instead of the BV500? There are some long stretches in the Sierra between resupply and the snow may make for some slow going.
Amazing scenery!
Yo, when are you going to be around Whitney? I might be climbing it sometime July so it would be awesome if we meet up.
I see that I'm not the only one who uses a BV450 in the Sierra. The BV500 was just too big to work with my current pack and other gear. Besides, I can get 21,000 calories of food that I like in it, which lasts me 7 days between resupplies. Good enough for me.
100,000 SUBS CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! 🎆 🥇
Darwin, Love your videos. I've been doing some AT section hikes with my family, and I wanted to know what your favorite section of the AT was? I know this might be a little off topic from the PCT but the AT is a lot closer to me. Did some around the NOC and Smokey Mountain park last week. Thanks.
Hey, awesome that your st kennedy meadows. would be cool foe an update. when did you leave Camp? when did you arrive at Kennedy? what are yu averaging on your milage? great trekking.
Nightcrawler is right behind you ha...
Okey, if I want to send a package with the Sierra gear via the post to be held. Where should I send it? To a post office near or to a shop or other place?
so, is there a new place for hikers to hang out at Kennedy Meadows, that being Grumpy Bears? I remember past years video's people arriving to cheers from other hikers, I guess at the General Store. You mentioned a change of ownership....
Thanks for the videos! Ok loving them. Can I ask why snuggles didn’t do the pct with you?
what gizmo do you use to carry the water bottle on front strap? can you include a link, please! Looking great!
Ronen Yaari noticed that in another video. Looks like it's just the pack design
Zpacks bottle holder
"You can really taste those 10 calories!" 😀
Superb series, but all the sudden background music? ...i tend to be a little more sticky about this because i practice scales and tough measures while watching lol.
Love your video's. But what flip top cap are you using on your water bottle?
From a sports drink bottle.
6:45 “ you can really taste those 10 calories” 😂😂
Darwin your the man
Nice to see the channel growing!
Good luck!
25 mile day is dialing it BACK?????????????????
Thanks for another fabulous update. You will be over 100K subscribers very soon. BTW, the mountain range is called The Sierra, not Sierras. Dixie pointed that out on a video once. Nearly all hikers make that mistake. Enjoy this section! I'm super jealous!
Feel like I'm with you watching your vids!🙂
There's a lot of going out to eat on the PCT...
Just out of curiosity what are your toenails gettin black? Asking from a non hiker.
Panda I dont know about his, but, sometimes they will turn black from the constant pounding in the shoes- hitting the top of the toe box.
Great stuff. Thanks
Question Darwin, I hike in Lone peak 3.0 trail runners. Do I need different shoes for the Sierra or winter Gaiters for post holing? What do you use?
Why dont you carry any bear spray?
Hi Darwin, to help prevent frostbite put antiperspirant on hands and feet. Keep them well covered with it and dry. This wii help. Med Hint from Dr. Bones.
Great Video mate..Thanks..Keep Hammering Brother 👌💚
What is the song at 7 min?
Kennedy is more crowded earlier in the season.
Hi Darwin. What brand couscous are you using to cold soak? I lubs me some couscous!
So, not to pry, but what is Snuggles up to while you're trekking? You talk about her all the time. Is she just shy? Or just not interested in being part of the whole UA-cam thing? This is mostly just curiosity. Totally cool with the answer of "None ya bizness." 😋 Great video as always.
Look up the snuggle diaries on darwin's website. She blogs.
Oh!! Cool. Thanks for the heads up.
Awesome..
Hey Darwin, what kind of waterproof socks are you getting? Got a link for us???? : )
Dave Nelson look at sealskinz or I like dexshell myself. Been using dexshell for a while and love them. I used sealskinz as a bike messenger and they also work really well.
You can also look at a company called Showers Pass. Three layer breathable socks that work great. They are in Oregon and make excellent water proof cycling gear that can be multi purposed regarding hiking/backpacking.
Lmao how did those 10 extra calories
Bears scare the living shit out of me.
700 mi 🎆 congrats
What are the socks Darwin uses?
I think Darn Tuff wool socks....
Thanks all, I shall start hunting them down!
Think we all wear darn toughs. Lifetime guarantee if they wear out on the trail they will replace them.
