Hey! Thank you for watching! Well, there have been many new developments since I filmed these sessions. These days, we've got a bit of an issue with the new "auto smoothing" that is happening by default on both the brush and pencil tool. They added this feature to try and help us, but it is actually a bit of an issue these days. It's really tricky to get the right pressure curve and look now from just one stroke. They added the line weight tool to try and make editing the line easier, but I feel like it takes away from the natural drawing experience. - With the vector brush tool there are only two things to remember. It was designed to allow us to use Textured Intensity brush images. So, it's really useful for drawing or painting textured image lines. However, you can't expand the image into vector. Only the path will be vectorized. However, you can create "basic round" brushes for the brush tool which can be vectorized and expanded if you wish. In the past I actually favored using the brush tool with a round brush to do vector inking because the lines would not remain selected after drawing them. But now, the pencil tool has been given the same option by simply toggling "keep selected" - I just hope they work out the auto smoothing soon. It's a bit wonky still, and It doesn't feel as smooth or natural as it used to. I really appreciate them trying to help us though. The vector line work is a tough nut to crack! I hope this helped!

Congrats on the honeymoon, hope it was amazing! The thing about YT is that everyone just expects performance and by doing that there's a serious loss of authenticity. I appreciate it when people are just, people.. Real and flawed and imperfect. As a growing artist, I think far too many people are expecting to see quick answers and immediate results instead of the arduous and gritty reality. Thank you for being authentic in a (yt) world of instant gratification. I look forward to more content once you're settled in 👍
@@FosterYourAffinity That “mess up” Just shows your human too lmao. Definitely useful I do a lot of scaling down as well, which the line work would get thick. So definitely helps with keeping the lines from doing that. Then having to go through all of them all over haha.
Well, the command controller has an option where you can swipe down on the control key you want to use and lock it. So, to do the loop select with the node tool you either hold down option or swipe to lock it. Once it's locked it will turn blue. (option is the bottom one) Once you're done, you can swipe down again and unlock it. I hope this helps! 😄
I was hoping you would show this!! 😂 I would also love to see how you do the comic pages you have there. (Not exactly those ones but sample page haha.) That’s actually what I wanted to use affinity for and wondered if I could do that with this app. You brought hope to that thought of mine, in it maybe possible. Biggest question is time thou, do you find vector more time consuming? Or just the factor of the learning curve/ finding your own flow in the app moment?
Nomak, those comic pages are actually practice pages that I downloaded from the internet to practice inking. I'm still in the preliminary stages of a full blown comic tutorial. I really want it to be special, so it's taking some time, and there are still many things I need to learn. It is coming together very slowly, but to bring you some comfort and spirit - YES! it can be done! 😆😎

@@nomakslicer Yes, there are all kinds of things out there. I found a lot of good stuff posted on Deviant Art. There are some really talented pencilers there who post their stuff for the specific reason that they want inkers to ink it. lol - That's pretty awesome. Also, if you just search for (artists' name here) "pencils" or "finished pencils you can find all kinds of great stuff. I love Kirby's pencils and Sinnott's inks. So, for example, I went and did a google search for "jack kirby full page pencils" etc. Found lots of great artwork to practice on. Thanks again for watching Nomak! ttys
And the pixelated it is interesting that, that works for you that actually bothers me. Lmao one other reason why I wanted to learn vector felt more like ink well, inking to me. But it just shows that affinity can work for many people and their creative flow.
To be honest, these days because of the new pencil tool improvements I have been using basic rounds with pressure. I think they are superior to textured intensity brushes because if you need to expand them later you can. You also have to consider that they do not have any extra data attached to them i.e. the textured image. It is still not perfect yet. On iPad at least, if you try to go to fast you will get crashes. Especially if you use the stabilizer. On desktop you won't run into many problems at all, - it seems to be all about the way the iPad version processes everything. On iPad we have to go a little more slowly. As for the line tapering. Try this, if you're on iPad, tr going to the navigator studio, toggle the FX view off, and set the main view mode to Pixel. Now, if you want to ink with the pencil or brush tool, it will allow you to see how the lines are really presenting in pixels, and will allow you to go just a tiny bit faster with your drawing. You should still use caution not to go too fast though. It takes a bit of self control. I crash a lot becuase once I get flowing, I sometimes forget that I am working with vector and not pixel. The point is though that it shows you just exactly how fine the taper "really" is. We have to remember that the vector information is there so that when we export the final images, the vector data can be translated to whatever dpi and size we want without loss of fidelity and clarity. That's why it's great to work in vector for certain things. It gives us absolute confidence that our final output will be crystal clear no matter what size we need to export at. - Try out the new pencil tool feature "toggle keep selected" - It's much more like drawing with the brush tool. I have been using it almost exclusively lately. - I hope this helps!

I am struggling at 16:45 using gesture control and loop to select😢 please help
Well, the command controller has an option where you can swipe down on the control key you want to use and lock it. So, to do the loop select with the node tool you either hold down option or swipe to lock it. Once it's locked it will turn blue.
