Lucy's timing is so natural and perfect. Absolutely hilarious, and she does not have to try. Love you always Lucy.

There will NEVER, EVER be another Lucy. She was a complete legend and had such class. The queen of comedy. IF I had been Joan interviewing Lucy, I would have died.
A bit bother with the question that jones ask as if she didn't have something good to ask a legend just weird ill keep it simple only bcuz she passed anyhow we love you lucy forever.😍😘
As I look at all the old videos of Lucille Ball in interviews, she is always humbled by the response people have for her. She and Desi Arnez always gave credit to the wonderful writers of their show. That kind of writing and humbleness is lost in the hollywood of today. Writers today seem to only be able to use crude, foul, language and situations to get a laugh. Belly laughs that I love Lucy brought died with those wonderful writers and actors and actresses. So thankful to be able to see and hear the humor of old through video.
Actors today expect to be adored as well so many female actors wear so little clothing in many public places and photos. Look T Lucy. She never had to go to clothes to be loved. Her facial expressions which were many we're enough to make one laugh. I loves watching her shows.
Joan Rivers was a master of diplomacy when the situation required it. I can see how sensitive Lucy was, this was not her element. But Joan made her feel safe and respected, and she drew Lucy out.
No words can ever adequately describe her stature in television, the happiness she gave , is giving, and will always give to those who have had the fortune to watch I Love Lucy.
@ Shut the fuck up with that. Joan is just as much a legend as Lucy. Not only did she have a name for herself back then she adapted for the new generation and continued to have a name for herself years later with fashion police and her own show melissa and Joan. The woman was a hard worker and a big influence. Do you know how many people showed for her funeral? She had celebs in tears on TV just talking about her passing. She was well respected. She had people, like me, who isnt even from her time and wasn't even born when this show aired still going back and watching her much older comedy clips because she was not only popular then, but also popular during my generation during the Fashion Police days. THAT is the definition of what a legend is. Someone who influences many generations and have them going back and admiring their work many years after their death. You know why I'm watching this clip? Not just for Lucille, who is also legendary, but also for the other legend interviewing her, joan river. It is great to see two women comedy legends in the same room supporting one another. It was a good time in history. Dont ever try to discredit her decades of work and contributing to her industry.
@Jim Roc You can shut the fuck up with that ignorant nonsense as well. Johnny Carson was a douchebag. And it is sad that she waste time being a good friend to him when he wasn't one to her.
I miss Lucy when she passed away I thought the world was going to end . She was the best , I'm 42 now and I race home from work just to watch I love Lucy and it never get old .
Same here! I’m 52 and the biggest Lucy fan ever! My whole life, I’ve loved Lucy…. I was a latchkey kid, coming home to an empty house when very young in the late 1970’s….. my mama never had to worry tho…. I can remember racing to get the mail (that was one of my chores)…. Flying in the house as fast as possible….locking the screen…. Locking the door…. (I had it down to an exact science time wise!!) Racing over to turn on the TV so I didn’t miss any of the Lucy Reruns (our old TV took about a good minute to warm up and turn on)…. They played the I Love Lucy reruns on channel 12 KPTV for 2 hours, back to back…. I’d make a snack during each commercial break…then race back to the couch as to not miss anything… I had a very traumatic childhood…. That show gave me a much needed break. I didn’t have much to smile about, or any real laughter in my life at the time. We Love you STILL Lucy 💕❤️🙏🏼💕❤️🙏🏼💕❤️🙏🏼💕❤️🙏🏼
Watching, I love Lucy, always makes me feel better, when I have the blues. I love to read, the nice things, people have to say about her. I wish she was still with us, We really can use her here now, more than ever. This world needs more Lucy. I Love Lucy!
That is sooo very true. I go to sleep to lucy every night. Not because it's boring or puts me to sleep. But because I know all episodes all by heart and love the lines to sooth me to sleep. It's a sense of home.
Ms. LesaRenay same for me, i am 54 and need to finish my day with i love lucy or the lucy show, even if i know all the episodes by heart too, i’ll never grow tired 🤗🌹
She has many times said that she was not a comedian but that her writers were the one's who made her the star. She was ahead of her time and the shows were enjoyed and still are many decades after they were made, the I Love Lucy reruns. She admitted how proud she was of the show on the interview with Joan Rivers. She was very intimidated by Johnny Carson and on the air admitted that to him. It was obvious how uncomfortable she was on his show but she seems to like Joan. Yes she is missed and we all Love Lucy!
+Tara E Girod That was too humble of her. She was an actress, dancer, singer, director, producer and writer. Maybe the most talented woman in the whole media history.
This is so cool and a great memory for me. I just found this video. I was in the audience, when this show was filmed. We had no Idea that Lucy was going to be on the show, or even that Joan Rivers was hosting. I think I was the first person to stand for that ovation. In my opinion, Lucy will remain timeless. So many of us can, still to this day laugh, when watching I Love Lucy, as we did when we first or for the 20th time, watch her show.
It's really touching to watch the aged Lucy still having the energy and spirit of the younger Lucy. Her body languages and habits and manners of speaking. Tears just welled up in my eyes. I hope she's found her happiness in wherever she is now, if wherever exists.
Lucy told a story once about how one of the times she went back to her hometown as a "failure" from NY was due to an acting class she was taking. She said she took acting and was awful. There was a star student with whom no one could compete. Who was it? None other than Bette Davis!!! #OMG
To think how many millions she touched and continues to touch. From us who are just viewers to future comedians the world over. Lucille Ball is the definition of a legend.
Lucy was so shy and introverted in real life...She would not appear on the show if Johnny was the host because she thought he was much more talented and spontaneous than she was...How wrong she was...But she truly loved Joan Rivers, and would appear on anything that Joan hosted....God Bless Lucy!
Well, if you want to see Johnny and Lucy together, check out an episode of I've got a secret from I think, 1959. Johnny on the panel and Lucy is the guest and what happens is ... just wonderful live television.
Ms. Ball was an Icon and a Legenday Television Star. During her second series, she started running Desilu while simultaneously starring in her own show. Not an easy feat. Ms. Ball was the first Woman to own her own Studio and Television shows. This is truly a marvelous moment. Thank-You for sharing.
The standing ovation that Lucy received was well deserved, unlike today, when the audience stands up for virtually everybody who appears on the stage. Watch any late night talk show: Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmell, James Corden, and you will see standing ovations at the drop of a hat. If everybody gets a standing ovation, then it doesn't mean anything anymore.
It’s always so wonderful to see Lucy. Everyone loves her. Now, it’s also wonderful to see and remember Joan and all the laughter she provided. Two very funny gals!
Thank you Utube for bringing Lucille Ball back into our lives. What a great comedienne she was. I can’t get enough of her shows, I watch them every night before I go to sleep and ‘boy’ it’s really great to go to sleep laughing, no kidding.
Besides being a mega talent and icon, what I love about Lucy is her championing of other women -- Joan Rivers, Carol Burnett, Valerie Harper, Vivian Vance, etc. She was a true friend to women in the business and a wonderful executive. She doesn't get the credit for all she did on behalf of other women in the business, on and off screen. We love and miss you dearly, Lucy. The world is less kind and funny without you in it.
Joan and Lucy are my Greatest Loves,They brought so many joyful days to Americans in the 1950s and 1960's the Daywhen the"Masters Father" called them to his kingdom !!!! May God Bless her son and daughter forever hes Handsome and shes Beautiful... Very much missed Sincerely Tony Shelton of Charleston,South Carolina
What a class act.I love how after every talk show when she leaves she ALWAYS stops and acknowledges her fans. Hollywood and T,V, sure don't have the same level of Talent and Class.
Lucy is in such a great mood with Joan! I love this interview - especially when Lucy says she doesn't remember how she got started in show business. She gives us a glimpse of her incredible timing.
Back then we had something called civilized behavior before celebrities returned to the animal state, and conversation was intelligent and on a high plane. There was graciousness, politeness, no four letter words because they had talent and a large vocabulary and didn't have to rely on profanity to fill in sentences, very unlike what passes for entertainment today. No, thanks. I'll entertain myself with clips like these.
You really are joking aren't you? Hollywood has always been an absolute cess pit. The only difference back then was that it was all brushed under the carpet because people were so deferential and wouldn't question anyone in authority. As one small example, a lot of stuff has subsequently come out about Johnny Carson. Behind the scenes, he was a cold, unpleasant man who spent most of his life drinking and chasing prostitutes.
@@zeddeka I am very aware of Johnny Carson. His former friend wrote the book about him. What I am saying is that what people do in private is one thing. Hollywood was always naughty. Lavender marriages were arranged by studio heads if one or both..man and woman..were homosexual. Orgies were common, all types of the basest of human behavior. BUT..it was not done in public. When I see classy films like The Thin Man with William Powell and Myrna Loy, it was witty, sophisticated and totally entertaining and no one dropped the F bomb or was seen screwing each other. Everything was subtle. You forget that Myrna was a bi-sexual who had a big thing with Janet Gaynor (it was said) or that Powell had a number of ex wives. What you saw was a civilized movie with perfect casting and excellent direction. What changed was that all abnormal behavior and crassness have become mainstream, even available to the smallest child. This is what I mean. People have always had that fallen nature...it seems to be more common now and darker and people have no shame and see no problem proclaiming it in public, calling it entertainment.
SLOOP JOHN B the word classy is so tacky....say the person has class, or is polished.....🙄....and no,the world had there share of skunks back then too...for example John Wayne,Johnny Carson,etc...
Just wonderful ...lovely memories of watching Lucy as a little girl with my mum ....a real treat ..big fan of Joan also .. These ladies now entertaining Angels I'm sure 💞
I adore the respect Joan always showed Lucy. She is more than a legend, she was a walking national treasure. I hope they can feel the love that still radiates to them.
It's amazing to me, too - that when you think you've seen all the interviews that Lucy did, here's another one -- and a great one with Joan Rivers. From 1984 .... I saw the All Star Party for Lucille Ball that Joan refers to in the beginning of this segment, but missed a lot of the Johnny Carson shows (that Joan was subbing for here) because we had to get up and go to work, and was before we had a VCR and DVR's. Thank you for posting. I Love Lucy!!!!
Even in my generation I grew up with, I love Lucy and she is a legend and funny too.Vivian Murts and Fred and Desi..Little Desi Arnez..all legends on the stage and are missed on TV every day except on the weekend..They were truly a joy to watch after a long day..thank you all.
There will NEVER be another Lucille Ball. The fact that she is still as popular now and perhaps even more so now, speaks volumes as to her long-term appeal, her comedy, her class, and of course, she is so vocal as to how appreciative she is of the reception she gets everywhere. No, many will try to copy her style, but there was only one and there will never be another. Lucy, we miss you, but thank you for the legacy you left, and impresion on so very many people.
She was a comedic, out lived actress not a comedian. but was never a legit standup comedian....She only loved being an actress and wanted to be taken serious as an actress. She was a outlived comedian...the greatest ever stand up female comedian was Joan Rivers, the greatest sitcom outlived female comedic actress was Lucille Ball. They are two totally different things.
+Tara E Girod,She mentioned that she was not funny and it was her fabulous writers that made her famous but it was Lucy's talent and we all know that in the 50's not everyone could take on those parts as well as she did.
Tara E Girod I was expecting my first son around the time of her death, and was on complete bed rest, all the tributes to her on tv made my confinement more tolerable......thanks Lucy..
Mrs Ball never thought of herself as being funny nor did she feel that she deserved the attention she received. She loved it though. She spoke of this on other talk shows that asked her deeper questions. She will be missed.
+Texas T. I think it was her timing. And that she never (if I remember correctly) laughed at herself. The breaking of an 'unbreakable' dish still brings a smile to my face. She had to do, did it, it broke. And she just stared, expressionless. Those are the kinds of moments most endearing. Namaste and care, mhikl
well, all she wanted to do was make us laugh on her shows, which she did! She was quite a perfectionist and worked for hours and hours on the comedy bits but it was worth it.
She used to sneak up into the rafters of the different sets on the Desilu lot and "watch" production from above so no one would notice that the boss was in the room. She finally got busted when she laughed out loud during a scene. While many have gotten credit for making "Star Trek" on TV possible, it was her who green lighted production for what was then the most expensive show on TV. And to this day, people still see the "Desilu" logo at the end.
My "I Love Lucy" DVD's are my medicine! Whether life is good or not so good, I can always count on Lucy, Ricky, Fred, and Ethel to make me laugh and smile!
I was 12yo when Lucille Ball died. I am *not* one of those mushy people that cries when celebrities die but I cried when Lucy died. She was special Lucy.
If this was 1984 Lucy would be about 73 years old. What enormous talent she had and to the very end she was a great raconteur with so many interesting anecdotes.
It seems odd that when people talk about Lucy they rarely mention that she was once a studio mogul. Lucy started at RKO sudios in the 1930's and ended up owning that studio which become Desilu. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS WONDERFUL VIDEO !
I never realized how affectionate and inclusive Lucy was to anyone sharing a stage with her. What class!
Joan looks star struck. You can tell how much respect and admiration she had for Lucille. ❤
Plasser1000 I would’ve felt like it was the ultimate honor.
You can really tell how much Lucille loved being in the spotlight and how grateful she was for all of her success. Love her.

Watching in 2019. Lucille Ball and Joan Rivers = LEGENDS 💖
Rivers is NO Lucille Ball. Well known, yes, legend hell no.
Joan Rivers was a master of diplomacy when the situation required it. I can see how sensitive Lucy was, this was not her element. But Joan made her feel safe and respected, and she drew Lucy out.
Rare for Joan.
I really was sad about Joan dying too
Yes I agree ,your better with words than I am.
Wut?
Joan was very respectful on this interview but still VERY funny
LOVE Lucy AND Joan! Two awesomely funny, brilliant and wonderful women. God rest their souls.
Renee Bloggs Oh I loved them both dearly. Same with Carol Burnett, Bea Arthur, Betty White. Bettys the only one left of that kind of comedy.
No words can ever adequately describe her stature in television, the happiness she gave , is giving, and will always give to those who have had the fortune to watch I Love Lucy.
Lucy died in 1989. Joan you are a legend too.

Felt that. 💖
I will always love Lucy.
"How'd you get into the business?"
"I don't remember..."
lol I love that answer!

It's refreshing to see a performer not 'performing' in an interview, but just being real, and nice and interesting, and polite.
To think how many millions she touched and continues to touch. From us who are just viewers to future comedians the world over. Lucille Ball is the definition of a legend.
Love Lucy and Joan so much. They were great comedians and class acts for sure.

No, many will try to copy her style, but there was only one and there will never be another. Lucy, we miss you, but thank you for the legacy you left, and impresion on so very many people.
class.
What a Classy Lady!! She Will Always be my Favorite! I still watch the "I Love Lucy" episodes on Hulu.
I love seeing how much Lucy laughs at Joan's jokes... both were incredible
She's the greatest FEMALE comedian since the creation of the Camera....
She was a great comedic actress. She was never a comedian. But she really excelled in that role in I Love Lucy.
danrashtizadeh lol
@@KrysLynne82 Lucy had a beautiful body and figure. Beautiful hands, beautiful legs.
Margaret I’m not sure why you are replying this comment to me. I didn’t say she was ugly.
I will always love Lucy!
Lucy was the Greatest. RIP
Joan was Wonderful. RIP
Lucy was very hard to interview.
Joan was very patient.
You don't see this Class Talent in any place in the entertain business today. And this great talented lady shows her greatfulness. Just beautiful.
Oh Lucy Oh Joan in heaven together laughing with the angels all my love to you both.
She married Gary in November 1961, so yes this had to have aired in November 1984, she says she was married to him for 23 years that week.
LOL! Thanks for malking me laugh out loud. It felt great....and you're probably right!
We don't have comedians like this anymore....
Both these Ladies were Amazing! Loved them both.💞
I suddenly wish I could go into a special machine and visit a parallel universe where Lucy is part of the show Golden Girls.
Who could ever top these two!!! Both ladies are classy and elegant ladies.
This was Just before Desi died and a few years before she died.
They said she took Desi's death hard and was never over it when she died in 1989.
She did in fact, mention that iShe died on my birthday, April 26, 1989 but a different year. Yes she is missed. We all loved Lucy!
+Tara E Girod,She mentioned that she was not funny and it was her fabulous writers that made her famous but it was Lucy's talent and we all know that in the 50's not everyone could take on those parts as well as she did.
I love your birthday. It belongs to one of my most favorite people in the world.
Tara E Girod I was expecting my first son around the time of her death, and was on complete bed rest, all the tributes to her on tv made my confinement more tolerable......thanks Lucy..
That is my son's birthday- one of the best people anywhere and a very well-loved man.
Carol Burnett was born on the same day Lucy died too
Great interview. Lucy unlike Joan was never a comedian. Lucille Ball was a comedic actress.
lasuvidaboy Lucille Ball was all this and a DIVA, too.
Namaste and care,
mhikl
well, all she wanted to do was make us laugh on her shows, which she did! She was quite a perfectionist and worked for hours and hours on the comedy bits but it was worth it.
I love Lucy and Joan!
2 of my favorites ever!!
Thanks for posting this video...I've been wanting to see the whole interview ...Thanks.
She was so classy
Fonze Knight classy....stop using that word, say she has class...🙄
My "I Love Lucy" DVD's are my medicine! Whether life is good or not so good, I can always count on Lucy, Ricky, Fred, and Ethel to make me laugh and smile!
Ball ADORED Joan. You can see it. They understood each other very, very well.
I was 12yo when Lucille Ball died. I am *not* one of those mushy people that cries when celebrities die but I cried when Lucy died. She was special Lucy.
My favorite actress of all time. Childhood memories. ❤️
Thanks for posting this. I had seen a little bit , but I really wanted to see the whole interview !!!!
Two amazing women! I Love Lucy is my all time favorite show!! :)
If this was 1984 Lucy would be about 73 years old. What enormous talent she had and to the very end she was a great raconteur with so many interesting anecdotes.
i watched it this morning...normally not awake that early but i couldn't sleep. i've got the whole series but i watch it on tv every chance i get.
Man a true treasure
Oh Lucy, we still love you!
It seems odd that when people talk about Lucy they rarely mention that she was once a studio mogul. Lucy started at RKO sudios in the 1930's and ended up owning that studio which become Desilu. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS WONDERFUL VIDEO !
darlinkula1 yeah she was a studio mogul because of DESI'S hard work as a producer and studio boss.
I wish I would have meet lucy ball in the 80s
Thanks for posting!! Just when I think of seen it all heres another Lucy appearance on here makes me wonder what else there is.
Love Lucy forever
