So helpful. I'm looking forward to the album. I plan on getting my first ambient album out this year. You are a big reason that this thing is coming together. Thanks for what you do here.
On dynamic tempo mapping, both Bitwig and Ableton Live can do this. They also have a flex function where in the timeline you can click at various points to create anchors, and then you can drag those around. Anything in between two of these anchor points will get re-timed to fit. It's a great way to fit existing tracks/loops/samples together, or to re-time things any way you want. And if you get super crazy with it, you can compress and stretch samples to make some very cool rhythmically textural beds. Anyhow, I love seeing your process here! Thanks for sharing!
Always love your walk throughs! Would you consider doing a video on how you organize and prioritize your recording/practice time/mixing time as a person with a full time job? I’d appreciate any tips and trick you have for time management as a part time musician!
The smart tempo function following your playing for more natural feel is such a great idea. Planning on choosing a DAW (Windows) I also wonder if there would be one with comparable Smart Tempo feature... Thanks a lot for explaining the mix, hearing your music I breath deeper and come down. Love the atmosphere you create, I should listen to you more often...
Thank you for sharing this! I admit, when it come to recording my music, I just can’t seem to follow through on it. Ever since my first 4-track recorder ‘til now. I’ve got plenty of energy to compose, collaborate, improv, play live…no problem. But sitting down and recording, seemingly incapable!
Thanks for posting this! There should be more of these practical sessions! I come from a rock background and have been writing music for years but lately I've been getting into creating ambient music. Over the years, I've conditioned myself to play with a click only so that I can use midi instruments. I own Logic and know of smart tempo but it's one of those features you forget. Thanks to you, I'll take another approach when experimenting with ambient music.
Excellent video Bill. I use Cubase, it has a tempo track which allows you to vary the tempo of a song. Not sure if it is as good as the one in Logic, as I don't really use it, but I like what you have done in your track, so I may give it a try. The Logic tempo functionality gives your track movement, which adds 'emotional' content and interest for the listener. Great tip about using a DeEsser plugin on a guitar track - I never thought of that. Do you ever use the Mix Assistant functionality in Neutron?
The outcome sounds amazing. I really like how the drums fit in the song... and how they sound natural - even though its a plugin! And of course, guitars sound great - but that is a standard in your music :-))
Bill, I need your input on a situation. When i mic an instrument into my focusrite 2i2 into logic pro.....I get great recodings. ...but when i go DI guitar into interface, there is alot of background noise. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. My cables are fine. help.
Hi Bill, I am using Amplitube 5/Tonex in my DAW. Inside Amplitube I have several modulation effects and I can position it inside the signalchain of Amplitube. Now my question: Does it matter when I load another plugin to the same track. For example a Delay or a Reverb? But then it is not in the correct signal chain?
Hello -- I'm having trouble with recording my guitar (SM57, Focusrite 2i2, Audacity). It sounds so muddy. How do we get around that? I'm so ready to start recording. You've been like some sort of shaman to me for the past few months and I need some help getting going.
Acoustic or electric guitar? If acoustic, make sure you are not pointing the microphone at the sound hole. I like to place it 12" - 18" away from the guitar and point the mic right at the point where the neck joins the body. If electric, you will need to play around with where the microphone points to the speaker.
@Chords Of Orion Thank you... yes, just electric for now. That's what I figured about the distance. Been playing forever but, haven't done any of my own recording. Thanks again, I really appreciate it

Great stuff!! Appreciate you showing this!! Can't wait to hear your new album!!
So glad you share this stuff! Thanks
This 4 track recording example was super helpful for a recording newbie like me, thanks!
Love seeing your process here, thanks for sharing!
This is really great news. I am very excited to hear it. Very happy for you! ✌️

Fantastic! Been waiting to watch something like this!
Analogue tape ambience used to be 24 tracks of ephemera. Now it's 4 tracks with 20 plugins! Cheers Bill
TONE IS GREAT.SONG IS AMAZING
I really like your taste for delays :)
This was inspiring, Bill, thank you so much for sharing how you do this! Excited for your next album coming! ✌️😌🎸
Lots of great tips Bill. Thank you.
Always love seeing the MiX Bill
Have you tried the new McRocklin Suite plugin? Some lovely ambient pre-sets there.

I haven’t heard of any but Logic. I use Bitwig, but also tried Studio One, Waveform, Reason, and Fl Studio. Never heard of smart tempo in any of them.
Cubase includes this, called tempo detection.

Been loving e-bows since I first heard "I lived on the Moon" by Kwoon, love the range of sounds they can produce
Love the drums! Great explanation of your process as well.

I use Cubase and it has "detect tempo" function which puts tempo changes into tempo track. And Ithink sure Reaper would have similar feature too.
Merci pour ces conseils ;magic Logic !

Hi Bill. What's up? I'm looking for an alternative for TC Electronix Mimiq. Can you recommend sth?
The Strymon Deco is pretty fabulous as a doubler.
@@chordsoforion Thank you so much! :)
Are you recording in stereo?
