This to me is peak AMG, not as serious as the current ones, but just enough to make it feel tied down, just need a transmission remap to add in downshift blips
Jeremy Clarkson, this car's previous owner, has said in one of his columns that the car rode so hard on the Top Gear test track (which is flat) that one day the Lotus engineer who designed the track said he can make it a lot softer while going faster round there. So he did the setup and it's 3 seconds or so faster than the original setup from the factory.
Nice filming and editing. Nice commentary from Dan too. I had one of these for a year. Sublime Recaro seats, very poor gearbox, hard to put the power down. However it sounded great and love the looks.
The normal CLK, is a nice car appearance wise. balck, is like a big nice but wild beast. The dream had to be such a car, converted to manual transmission!
@@ledio.m Take the new S-klasse, which has a weird grille with so many angles, I don't know what shape it is anymore, which also bulges out like it got bitten by bees while allergic, and has a gloss square right in the middle of it, which looks like a giant piece of transparent scotsch tape. I know what it's for, but it's the least elegant solution in all of motoring. And then there are headlights that are also rounded and angular at the same time, but the angles somehow don't match the grille... It looks like a morbidly obese angry man with grillz in his mouth and diamond necklace around his neck.
Damnit I so need this car... But I also need the bank account to buy this car .!. You've guessed it... I ain't getting this car😅... What a brutal beauty this motor is😊
Pistonhead videos really show the difference between an auto journalist making videos and a youtuber making car vids. So much more depth to these videos than the click bait youtuber rubbish.
Brilliant review of a lovely car in beautiful surroundings. As the owner of a SLK55 AMG of the same era it would be amazing if you could find and review the first ever black series; the SLK 55 AMG.
Great vid, Dan, though you would think Merc would have learned by now to install a decent steering system? And gearbox sounds lousy like my old Smart Roadster Brabus! 🙄
@slawterch : chassis wise, i would say the opposite. old amg's had issues to transfer power to the ground efficiently. latest amg's are pretty good at that.
I had one it was lethal.... the rear hopped across the road at a sniff of moisture, the gearbox was intransigent and rear diff creaked and groaned like a UK leather skinned Express reader residing in Málaga.
The Evo TME and now this. I'm loving the 2000s-2010s cars. Would like to see some more from this era. Really enjoying the videos!
Older Mercedes models, especially the AMGs, looked so much better than what they offer you today. Subtle and simple.❤️
Stunning car. Insane. I remember Clarkson reading the owners manual out. "Please take care when driving this car - The acceleration is savage" 😵😁
This shape. This engine. This presentation..brilliant!
This to me is peak AMG, not as serious as the current ones, but just enough to make it feel tied down, just need a transmission remap to add in downshift blips
Peak AMG, and definitely peak Black Series. My favorite looking Mercedes
No doubt 👍
He's Injoying Himself. Staying Frosty 🥶
Only ever seen one on the road, in Dubai, and it was probably the best sounding road car I've ever heard.
Ive got a guy in town who's on his second, loved his first but wanted to try a GTR IIRC and was back to a Black series in 3 months
Dan looked a little worried behind the wheel lol.
Great vid... The old school Black Series cars are amazing!
Love the Brecon Beacons 💓
Always loved the body styling - and that engine noise is so sweet .
EPIC!!! reminds us of the iconic top gear clip.. well done PH!!
There is only one, PH. The hub of hubs.
@@Lex-of2wo lol, didn't think from that point XD

Dan is one of the greatest presenters of the moment
Beautifully done 10/10
This Rise and Grind series is FANTASTIC
Awesome car, awesome video.
Well done, watching this really made me smile
That burning tyre start! I love you!
Putting out some great videos guys, rise and drive definitely becoming one of my favourite series on UA-cam
I have a CLK 350 with AMG suspension, wheels and was told not to drive it in the wet or snow, you did well.
Agreed! AMG cars are just epic!
Great drive Dan, i had to re-watch your powerslide several times.
when amg turned m car. love both styles of amg built in this era like the e55 amg and clk63 black.
Dan likes to hold onto a stiff warm knob in the welsh countryside 😱
Brilliantly done as always.
Love your videos man , especially that slide out off the T junction 🤩🤩

Such a surprise
A choc feel to this vid. Not quite there but deffo choc vibes 👍
Really cool!!!! Love this car.........2006 C55 AMG has same nurburging time as E46 M3.
He could be referring to the Mustang 5.0L in his praises for the V8
i saw a red one before, really nice
It's a great car. Clarkson was a big fan of it - he even bought one. I like the fact that it used a naturally aspirated engine.
this is/was his car
@@9898983 Ah, I suspected as much.
Great Video
My car collection includes a CL600 V12 NA and a CL63 AMG. Hopefully I will lucky enough to own of of these✔💯😈
Visually, it looks so subtle and toned down compared to modern Mercs, let alone AMGs.
Read what you typed again
Ehhhh..
Yeah? No? Pls tell me wtf you wrote
Ok, read slowly: this extreme AMG now looks subtle even compared normal (overstyled) modern Mercs, let alone (even more overstyled) modern AMGs.
@@Pandamasque Yeah. Definetely got it. Overstyled modern mercedes lmfao.

Yay DAN~~!! the MAN~~!!!!
Epic roads ,passionate sounding weapon.. worth an early rise anyway. Smiles per gallon ..💥👍
Wouldn't get up to drive electric would you..
Jeremy Clarkson said this car is the most thrill car... He actually own one 👍
i think this very car is the actual one he owned
You set your alarm for 4 am. Clearly you slept in that jumper to save yourself time in getting dressed.

Clarksons old car too !
CLK GTR for more go.
Wish AMG stuck to this recipe , cars are so big and full of bling bull shit these days
Funny - the bmw SMG gearbox in the e60 M5 is miles better than this one
£100k car and they put plastic bristles in the gear selector !!
Clarksons car
From here on out AMG went downhill. From a connaisseur's car to full blown poser mobiles.
@slawterch : chassis wise, i would say the opposite. old amg's had issues to transfer power to the ground efficiently. latest amg's are pretty good at that.
no, they went uphill. the fact that the cars are loved by posers is a different story. but they were much better than before.
