    Thanks for the tips. Great suggestions. I would also second posting on IG. Not IG live, but less than 1 minute videos on IG. You could link to UA-cam from IG for longer videos. Look forward to more sitar techniques. Thank You!

    I like this idea of using the yoga block to keep the sitar higher when not rested on your foot. This would be a nice modification to use from time to time, especially once my leg goes numb.

      Yes! It's very helpful to have some alternate sitting positions. These have allowed me to get in many more hours of practice.

    Thank you for you time to impart your knowledge on us. These techniques one of my teacher also shared with me. Not all teachers are aware of these techniques. Looking forward for new videos. Namaste

    Thank you Will: your voice is as beautiful as the Indian Sitar. I see how 15 years of experience shows its beauty. Thank you for sharing. I am a doctor and have nothing to do with learning of sitar playing but I do listen to Sitar sometimes to relax. Ustad Rais Khan (Pakistan) and Ustad Ravi Shankar (India) are my fav. Keep up the good sharing. I liked your video.Love from Canada.

    Dear Will, thanks a lot for this video. Can't agree more when you emphasize on the need for taking vocal lessons before getting into playing the sitar. I have been taking vocal lessons as per advice of my Guru since Feb 2021 to get the Fundamentals straight, and to be able to take up sarod subsequently. Wishing you all the best in your quest, and for making many more such meaningful content 🙏

    To keep my right hand together, my instructor had me use a thick rubber band holding the four fingers together. Then after a few months I didn't need it. Great video.

    @will hi lessons are really helpful. I am still struggling with the coordination between left and right hand. I wanted to know whether fast playing comes at the beginning or on prolonged practice you get a hold of it. Initially when I started playing my right hand stays exactly the way you showed but after sometime it gets exhausted. Am I playing something wrong. Can you help regarding, 😊

    • @WillMarsh
      @WillMarsh  10 місяців тому

      Hello, gaining speed in sitar playing definitely comes later on after consistent practice. I recommend taking a close look at your right hand. Is it relaxed? The up and down movement of the whole hand does not require much strength or force. It's more about using the natural momentum of the whole had swinging. Spend some time really working on the right hand and see if you can develop some stamina.
      I hope this helps! best regards

    So the right hand is never plucking an individual string, it's always a strumming motion where you're hitting all the strings at the same time?

    • @WillMarsh
      @WillMarsh  7 місяців тому +1

      no, the right hand moves together but pucks only the main string and sometimes the chikari strings.
