The more I watch, the more I begin to think that the sound was not put through a compressor to fool UA-cam's Automatic Copyright Detection algorithm, the music is SO incongruent and out of place, and SO badly mixed, it was never on the original BBC production at all and has been deliberately added but very badly mixed: in order to fool YT's copyright detection.

    Everyone, in short sadly there is no chance of getting the audio corrected as basically this is 3 2003 documentaries edited together by red dot studios/Odyssey an All3 media company. Julius Caesar 1 & 2 and Caligula. It was produced by Spire Films in Britain for Channel 4. Back then David Willcock should have insisted that Colette Foster make Trevor Barber (dubbing mixer) go back and add processing treatment on Tony’s overdub track during the B roll footage or at the least turn it up…So, unless Red Dot got their hands on the actual project files…there’s no hope…as an audio engineer in broadcasting for 17 years this pains me. As these are good documentaries and I LOVE everything Tony is on. He’s much older now but still awesome! And dang Odyssey! 1 million views in the 4 months since uploaded? Way to revive old documentaries like archiving and curation! Thanks for that ;)

      Yeah, well, I don't know why Julius Caesar is included in this "tyrannical emperors" video, as the view that he was "tyrannical", is certainly not objective, and he definitely was not "emperor"; in fact, the first Emperor of Rome was his adopted son, Octavian Augustus (30 BC-14 AD). As for "tyrannical emperors of Rome", Emperors like Octavian's (own) adopted son (and successor), Tiberius (14-37) would have qualified (at least, Emperors that came from Julia-Claudia Dynasty, the first Roman imperial dynasty). Also, right at the end of this video, a very important detail in Nero's reign (54-68) was left out: beginning in the year 66, fueled by real, and/or imaginary conspiracies, he unleashed a wave of terror on the members of the Senate (as well as other members of the nobility/patricians); this was (partly) the reason that, as soon as they could (in the year 68, shortly before his death/assisted suicide), the Senate declared Nero "enemy of the State".

The book Early Man in Britain by W Boyd Dawkins will tell you the Welsh, Scots, Iberians, Etruscans, and others were black people. We were lied to by racist scholars and historians. I was taught that the only blacks in Europe were slaves and servants. You can now look up online the color of Julius Caesar it will tell you he was much darker than his fake displays and pictures. So if the etruscans started Rome and they were black, then the Romans had to be black like the Greeks, Phoenicians, and the rest of the Mediterranean area. We know that Augustus Caesar was the 1st Emperor of rome. Negro was the fifth and final emperor of the Julio-Claudian dynasty, he was directly related to Augustus Caesar. My question to you is why would a blonde or red hair, blue-eyed Caucasian man nickname himself Negro or Nero?? Negro and Nero means the same thing.

    Serious sound editing needed here. It is, as always with Tony Robinson's presentations on history so interesting and well made, but the crazy apparently incessant music is annoying as all hell anyway, but when the sound of the narrator is drowned out totally on some of the most interesting parts of the video by strident and irrelevant music it makes it impossible to watch. I remember that my earliest idea of what Caligula was like came from the BBC series I Claudius, but much of history is determined by the winners and I had long changed my mind about him, he was a typical emperor who went against the ruling class. If Cassius and Bruno had beaten and killed Mark Anthony and Octavius then I would imagine Caesar would have been cast as another Tarquin and his literature destroyed.

    • @douglassun8456
      @douglassun8456 4 місяці тому +1

      That's a good point, that we would probably remember Caesar quite differently if the conspirators had won the second civil war. Even so, I think that Shakespeare has influenced how we remember the conspirators - Brutus and Cassius being cast as tragic heroes and probably getting a bit more credit than they deserved. When he wrote his Claudius novels, Robert Graves drew heavily on Suetonius, who drew heavily on the most scurrilous gossip about the Julio-Claudians to make the Antonine emperors look good by comparison. A lot of what we think we know about Caligula comes from Suetonius, and it's always interesting to see the historical evidence from different angles.

I'm here for the information, not a rousing experience. It just makes me not want to watch, to be frank. Tony Robinson and the Timeline series seem to be the worst offenders.
