I love how the ram was just starring you down at the beginning of the video!!
It looks great. I want to get rid of at least one of our toilets in the house and put
a compost one in. I have yet to convince my hubbie. I think it's great and it would
save us so much water since we have to haul our own.

Found this site accidentally and got hooked. We don't homestead but wish we could. At age 68 and both physically limited starting to homestead now is unrealistic. I have learned a lot here and have started gardening again after more than 25 years. Planted red and white potatoes in two different fire rings that I put in my front yard and built 2 pallet raised boxes for some herbs and strawberries in front of the walkway to my front door. We rent half a duplex and are lucky enough to have a fairly large side yard at a dead end so I just came in from tilling a fairly good size plot for my Lebanese squash, green beans, watermelon, cucumber and still need to till space next to garage wall for pole snap beans. Learned about planting tomatoes in planter with only 1 plant each so I have 3 barrels for tomatoes and one for broccoli and bell peppers. I am really late in getting this done due to all the rain we have had here. Even saw the flood walls put up and since I've only lived in Kentucky for 4 years this was exciting for us. Got any suggestions on what ways I can improve what I've started? Thank you for all your encouraging videos! Brenda Walters, Georgia born and raised Kentuckian!

Good job Doug! We've used the removable board walls in a few applications in my past, in a grain bin, between 2 stalls so you could enlarge the stall to 2x size, the other for our basement coal room. Very handy. We had "braces" as you called them on the outside where we could put the boards when they weren't needed, so they would not get lost or damaged and were still right at hand.

I am sorry. I was just telling my brother how our government is controlling us through fear. By telling our neighbors they need to worry what we are doing to protect themselves. My philosophy is they need to worry about thier own and not thier neighbor and vice versa.
Wishing the best to you and yours!

Put the compost toilet in your existing bathroom, right next to your regular toilet, for your own family’s use only.
Leave the guest bathroom as is for visitors.
And those nosy neighbors shouldn’t be able to know anything about what you are doing.
And by the way, distance yourself from them because you don’t want someone like that in your life anyway - if the shtf you certainly don’t want them mooching off your preps!

Just finished building our "Recycling Center" yesterday. :) I would recommend building it 5'x5' square and 7- 2x6s high. I built ours 4'x4' and it's a little small but there is only two of us and where we use it is at our vacation home in the heart of West Virginia. We will probably only empty our "containers" in the spring and fall.
This will be our "Homestead" in a few years.
I encourage everyone to first read "The Humanure Handbook" 4th Edition by Joseph Jenkins before doing this system.
He literally wrote the book on Humanure.
Love the channel Doug and Stacy :)

Great build doug. I'm building an allotment plot to grow food at the moment in scotland, nearly finished. I've built raised beds, a shed, a passive solar greenhouse, rainwater catchment and compost bays. I'm trying to use your ethos to the whole project and close the loop of all my waste and put it back into my plot. While not needing to buy anything. I'm lucky to live just a mile away from the beach and we can collect some seaweed which is an amazing natural plant food. I've learned lots from channels like yours, Curtis stone and Richard perkins. We ae planning our next house move which incorporate every system we can off grid in an urban environment. keep up the good videos!

great design! and no wasted flushing drinking water =) .im a chippy, built a tiny house with lotsa ply, and my concern is your safety how you're using a circular saw. Never stand behind the blade, you want to always be off to the side of it. When it grabs/fails while you're cutting, the saw goes backwards! and watching you cut at waste height and standing behind it is a real danger for your arms/body/legs, even if you have alot of experience its just a good habit to stand to the side of blade, especially if you're new to using a circular saw, also the cut plywood side drops down(more so thinner plywood sheets) as you cut along, which increases the chance of the blade grabbing,,hope it helps your safety ,and happy poopn =)

thanks or all the tips ...I used a bucket method years ago when I was off grid and I learned the hard way NOT to carry the bucket out in winter on icy walkways...after slipping falling and having the bucket splash all over me I went indoors and asked my kids to heat me some water so I could bath..they were so grossed out and all I could do was laugh (or I would have cried)...after that I used a sled to haul the bucket out...looking back I should have had more sawdust in the bucket and I possibly could have avoided the "accident"...lol

  • @katim3111

You should put a gutter at the back of that roof that collects the rain water into a 55 gallon water barrel that you can put under a down spout so rain would fill it. Also put the barrel on a stand of some kind, maybe cinder blocks so it's high enough that if you used a rubber hose, you can have gravity fed water source for your piles.
