Oswego NY has the best roller rink period. It’s at Shapiro park . I grew up right down the road from Erik Cole . Met him after the canes lost in 02 . I tape my goalie stick this way . It’s known as the “OZ job “
I like this method better than the vertical wrap, less tape means less weight...and it gives the option for tapeless edge, which is another plus...may take a lil longer to do, but it's worth it in the long run in my opinion
So since this video was posted, i've been usign this tape job now non stop since 2011, took a while for me to pick it up, wrapping tape is a habit. Anyway, i dont use the adhesive i prefer toe replace the tape every other game, and i put a strip down the bottom of the blade. The puck feels so much better, no loss in control and the tape jobs last longer. I recommend this.
@Pensrock8729 Yeah but these guys change sticks so often that he doesnt have to worry about that. The stick will most probably be broken before the bottom gets damaged.
Taught him everything he knows back in the day !! I used to tape his sticks for him when he played JR B !! He was always running late for games,So I got his stuff ready while he got dressed !!
@@bryanb7050 how is that a lie ?? He lived in Oswego Ny and travelled across the bordered and played for our JR B team here in Canada. It was in 95-96.
i like taping my stick this way for roller because tape usually rips off anyways but for ice i like a traditional tape job because i like to conserve my sticks
Isn't the point of taping it the normal way is to create more spin on the puck? Taping the regular way creates little bumps to spin the puck as it goes from heel to toe, causing the puck to spin more which means a straight floating pass rather than a wobbly one. Correct me if I'm wrong. That's what I was always told
Sometimes i tape my sticks this way except i cover the bottom of the blade and it protects the bottom of the blade like normal works awesome it looks really good too
To make this work without irrevocably dinging your blade, a layer of regular duct tape before EC's method would; A. protect the bottom edge; B. reduced the drag. The duct tape wouldn't need to be very wide. For those more experienced than I (I've only been playing 4 mos.); what say you?
yeah they cycle through all their sticks, so they use a different stick each period. But they arnt breaking all of them. Yeah pros get new sticks free and go through many of them but usually they have 1-2 that they are familiar with ie- havnt broken in awhile.
yeah kind of, it will gradually wear down the blade, but it will still last you probably roughly 20 games before you have to buy a new blade, I don't play inline hockey, but I do play alot of road hockey and this I don't tape my stick. My blade usually lasts me 20 games (about 3 hours long each) before it becomes so big an issue i have to replace the blade. And i buy 20 $ blades so I don't worry about it to much. I would definitely try this, worth it to lose the traction.
That's worth 16 goals for Edmonton. Someone should probably tell him, if he hasn't heard yet, that hockey tape actually has ADHESIVE ON IT. What a concept. So he doesn't actually need to spray adhesive onto the blade.
Yes the tape does have adhesive it. I guess you're the only hockey player who has not had their tape come off their stick lol. The spray Adhesive is for extra insurance obviously. Does nobody have common sense anymore?
hes a pro hockey player so Im pretty sure he knows what he is doing. Plus, he said "the most important part" was the adhesive spray. And a bet the fact that he doesn't wrap the tape around the stick like most people makes a difference as to why he may need adhesive spray.
because the bottom's not taped it breaks faster; also, when you're not paying for them or can afford those sticks, you're likely leaning on them more than the usual person; these guys break "$300+" sticks when they're frustrated...
haha. i tape mine because of eric cole. hes from oswego new york and i play hockey for oswego. he told us about it at summer league. it works but it wears the bottom.
Because your playing on a rough surface, in my opinion only use tape for ice hockey but if you taped your stick like this i bet it would be good inline hockey
I beleive normal black hockey tape or aany kind...renfew tape....for the adhesive , i have the HD of this clip recorded on my tv so it was clear on my tv and i beleive it was super 77 spray adhesive
As a matter of fact Joesphsenateur18 I did do alott for him and made sure things were ready once they got here.After he played his high school games,his parents rushed him up here to make our games as well. All his stuff was in his stall even his Large Tim Hortons black coffee with 6 sugars!!! So before you moch someone Joesph,You should know your facts first.
Of course they're not. This is why coaches are allowed to call for a stick check in the game. Players have waaayyy too many backup sticks for anyone to check all of them before the game.
i started taping my stick like this for roller coz i was fed up of the tape being chewed up on to bottom of the stick , it worked much better , im thinking of trying it with my ice hockey sticks
he has an inline hockey tape job

If you're not an NHLer who gets new sticks whenever he wants this is an awful idea. It'll get chips and cracks in it way more quickly.
You can put tape over the bottom and top too
+electrodude5 then it defeats the whole purpose
this is false, tape doesn't really protect your stick blade, its more for control
Tape will not prevent your stick from cracking/breaking. The most you'll get is maybe protection from some cosmetic scratches
screwgoogleplus well most of us don't have 74445671879018413315 dollars
I tape mine like this it works fine but i keep getting new sticks shipped every two weeks
Eric Cole and his wife are awesome people. Went to school with and played soccer with his wife.
do you know them still?
@TheBvaboi
its to make sure the tape sticks to the blade and is flat and gets rid of all the creases
I like this method better than the vertical wrap, less tape means less weight...and it gives the option for tapeless edge, which is another plus...may take a lil longer to do, but it's worth it in the long run in my opinion

I own one of his sticks and it’s such a cool tape job.
Can we get somebody taping the guy taping Erik Cole taping his stick?
TheIrishEnigma haha
@VilleLocHock He uses Super 77 you can find it at like Canadian Tire, Rona some stores like that.
@Pensrock8729 Yeah but these guys change sticks so often that he doesnt have to worry about that. The stick will most probably be broken before the bottom gets damaged.

Annnnnnd....that was a lie

But the whole point of him taping it like this is to avoid putting tape on the bottom
+LvI28Larvitar that's true
LvI28Larvitar saves tape I guess

Did you guys see the puck he uses!?!? It's half eaten since he does that trick often!!! You can see it well around 2:10
I know Eric Cole I live were he was born

@JulienDurden simple answer is yes, cause of friction
@FhmPhantomzz Why is that? Does the ice damages the bottom of the blade?
Isn't this going to ruin the bottom of your blade?
Yeah it'll get chipped more easily
Da Choppah buddy it’ll destroy your stick
Welcome to Montréal! :D
is that tape wider than regular tape or is it just me???
he's a mouth breather
only players on the oilers would tape their stick like that
did he stop this tape job now? i noticed that he doesnt now. idk though
finally someone who likes black tape! about damn time
yea but what is it?? I live in finland so... what does it do to blade??
is that 1" tape or 1.5"?
0:25 what a waste of tape
who cares its like a 1.25 for a role its not like your so poor you can't afford a tiny bit of stick tape to lose
not actually for him thats a half tapejob and who dosent want to save money
I am pretty wealthy and I know im very very lucky for that but if you want to save money that bad theres a problem
im not rich or poor but i waste a wrap of tape each tapejob so its not dirty so i dont want to save that bad
ya i kind of take tape for granted and I tape my stick before every time I go on the ice, I know thats bad people buy me tape whenever I need it
@81nhlkessel10 this is defenitly my new tape job i have it on my stick right now with the erathan and the puck and black tape.
if your worried about the wear on the bottom of the blade, just put a strip of tape on the bottom, its that simple.
I like this way. Plus when your in the NHL it doesn't matter if you break your stick because you don't have to pay for new ones.
Why's he breathing so loud
Well he's at an NHL training facility so most likely he just finished a workout
Max Forsey everybody sounds loud when you have a microphone up your nose
1Rod1Reel Fishing q
Huffing the glue.... It's part of the process.
He is close to the mic
i like how roloson is just sitting there watching
yeah but i've heard a few pro players say in interviews that when the stick gets to whippy for them they get a new one even if its not broken
Or just tape your stick normally like everybody else does
i do almost the same thing, but i dont tape the top half of the toe or the rest of the blade
That's worth 16 goals for Edmonton. Someone should probably tell him, if he hasn't heard yet, that hockey tape actually has ADHESIVE ON IT. What a concept. So he doesn't actually need to spray adhesive onto the blade.

And I'm sure that it impresses your beer league buddies on how 'fussy' you are with your stick.
Your comment made no sense. Everyone has their own preference. I'm sure you do to
Sarando1 looks like you just got ownd by niceness.
hes a pro hockey player so Im pretty sure he knows what he is doing. Plus, he said "the most important part" was the adhesive spray. And a bet the fact that he doesn't wrap the tape around the stick like most people makes a difference as to why he may need adhesive spray.
doesnt it eat up the bottom of your blade??
whats that thing around his wrists? Wrist guards? Why wear that in the locker?
Cole's got a crazy curve on his stick.
This guy play roller hockey or what?
how long does this tape job last
I do this same thing except I put an extra layer on
Interesting.. may have to tape mine like that and try it out
Frickin arts and crafts
Why does this tape job last longer than the stick? And why do u only tape it once? I tape my sticks ever 2-3 weeks
because the bottom's not taped it breaks faster; also, when you're not paying for them or can afford those sticks, you're likely leaning on them more than the usual person; these guys break "$300+" sticks when they're frustrated...
Dude the point is he's making millions of dollars and for playing a hockey game. He can tape his stick however he wants!
+Jack Finn Because he is pro hockey player, he uses that stick for a max. of 3 periods probably.
@PacaProductions It's goalie tape,
what tape and adhesive spray was he using?
Did you see how flippin crazy that curve was?
haha. i tape mine because of eric cole. hes from oswego new york and i play hockey for oswego. he told us about it at summer league. it works but it wears the bottom.
its pretty good for getting shots off actully but i switched back
What does he spray on the blade?
lol you guys on modsquad?
dont see it done this way to often. pretty sick.
@zerker112 because it probably has hair and dust on it
does anyone know what curve he uses? or what is on that stick
I would defenatly keep using this tape job if I could get new sticks 2 or 3 times every game but i dont want the bottom of my stick to wear out
where do u buy the spray?
Because your playing on a rough surface, in my opinion only use tape for ice hockey but if you taped your stick like this i bet it would be good inline hockey
What is the spray at the begining ?
I like this tape job
Thanks
does anyone know the spray he is using?
that is the BEST curve ive seen in a long time
I'm pretty sure the tape doesn't last longer than the stick. My stick usually lasts me 40 games a tape job lasts me one game or two practises.
wat doas the spray do?
does any body know what the spray is called
@RCM2210 Mee too!!
Glad to have Ryder now but I still did like cole
I beleive normal black hockey tape or aany kind...renfew tape....for the adhesive , i have the HD of this clip recorded on my tv so it was clear on my tv and i beleive it was super 77 spray adhesive
@thomas3816 u play on concrete he plays on the ice
his curve looks sick
i agree
@kmfdmnick
3M™ Super 77™ Multipurpose Adhesive
Try a home improvement store like Home Depot/Lowes. I got some from Home Depot.
where do you get the thick tape?
i tape my stick like that and its legit its is an awsome way to tape ur stick :D
@capsguy8 Thanks :)
Sweet
@caketech Thanks ;)
so sick
yeah but with ice theres not really as much traction and thats what hockey tape is for
@Franklinn2000 aside from Phoenix.
I gotta try that some time
@LiLMaC477 have u tried?.....im gonna......u wore your lumber down?
thx man !
@bosstwinkie68 i know ive seen its huge
As a matter of fact Joesphsenateur18 I did do alott for him and made sure things were ready once they got here.After he played his high school games,his parents rushed him up here to make our games as well. im eric cole i live in his home town of oswego. i was there went he brought the cup back home
Short stint with Edmonton but he'll Always be a Hurricane...
i started taping my stick like this for roller coz i was fed up of the tape being chewed up on to bottom of the stick , it worked much better , im thinking of trying it with my ice hockey sticks
I would love to tape my stick like that but I only have two sticks.
Is he for real
That curve is illegal did you see the toe curve on that?!
@NateDobs are you sure?
look at that hook.
