Thanks. If you want a flow hive this is the way to go. That said, if you are interested in beekeeping I would highly recommend getting a couple of inexpensive Langstroth hives and make it happen. I own two flow hives and kind of view them as novelty hives. Flowhives for me, as with you, were what engaged me in beekeeping. If I am to be honest I would have to say that I prefer Langstroth over flow hives and I think you will too. You will have to get inside and inspect the hives either way and the Langstroth hives and supers are cheap and interchangeable. I hope to hear from you in the future when you tell me about your hives and beekeeping journey.

Thank you for these tips. My wife wants a flow hive and I about had a heart attack at the price. This may be the perfect solution. Although I just check honey flow for price for 6 frames. They are now $400. Good grief. Keep up the good videos.
It looks like their prices are going up. I can tell you that this solution works. My homemade flow hive has been in service for two years and operated just the same as the 1,000.00 model. I do prefer the OEM frames but you can get the knock-offs on amazon and eBay for about 150.00 for 6. I just want to caution that I have not used these so I cannot vouch for their quality. Also, check eBay for the OEM frames. Someone may be selling theirs. That is where I got my second set at a bargain price. Thanbks for watching the channel. i really appreciate you. Have a great day!
Thank you for the great flow hive hacks. I was looking at the diagram of the flow hive frames, and they seem to be 51 mm or 2 inches wide. The cell body width seems to be 38 mm or 1 1/2 inches. This is a 12.7 mm or 1/2-inch larger honey cell storage size than a typical super frame honey cell of 25.4 mm or 1 inch. This would leave about 1/2-inch space for the bee space with 1/4 inch on each side of the frame cells. When you put the flow frames together, then you would have two 1/4-inch spaces together for a total of 1/2 inch bee space between the flow cells which is larger than the typical 3/8 total bee space and results in the bees making extra wax comb and cross comb. Although we would want to keep the 3/8-inch bee space in the brood box. The larger 1/2 space seems to work well for the flow frames. What is your experience with the bees using the Flow Frames and do they make any extra wax or cross comb? Thank you
Hi Barry. I have never experienced an issue with cross comb in the flow box. I have seen them draw out, fill, and cap honey on the flow frames proud of the comb face but never cross comb or burr comb. I think it is similar to placing 7 frames evenly spaced in an 8 frame honey super, the bees just extend the face of the comb to store more honey. All of that said, this system does work as advertised and the above situation almost never happens and is no big deal when it does. I hope this answers your question. Thank you for stopping in and taking time to comment. I hope to see you in future comments. Take care.
eBay can save you some $$. I paid full boat retail for my first one which is why I built my second. Thanks for stopping in and for taking the time to comment. Take care.
The OEM frame prices can be found at honeyflow.com. If you are looking for used frames check ebay. I found a set of 7 on ebay for cheap. Last but not least you can always buy the Chinese knock-offs for cheap. The boxes are just standard boxes which you may already have. Either way, the hacks will get you there a lot cheaper than the new model from honeyflow.com
We are so reliant on China for everything. Looks like our futures may hav many supply chain interruptions coming. My BIL oradered a new F450 & it took a year to get it. (No Chips). He buys a new truck every 24 mos so he was able to sell his 2yo truck for more than he paid for the one he ordered, but still...

Thank you so much for the flow hive hacks, i also wanted to buy one setup initial to start with later i will build my own from the raw material purchased individually like you said on the hacks video, it was a great video.
I am so happy I was able to help. In my opinion the flow hives are just way to expensive. They are neat and I like them but they just cost too much. Building your own for less money is the way to go. Brush the wax directly on the face of the comb. When the comb is closed it looks like standard honeycomb. It really is an ingenious invention. I hope this answers your questions. I really appreciate you stopping in to have a look and taking the time to comment. Take care.
@@BugFarmerBees Yes I agree. Bees have taken up residence in my water meter for the fourth time. First time the water Corporation killed them all with chemicals! I was so angry. Second time and third time I had a professional remove them and thought great they won't come back. Yesterday I was weeding the garden and yep they've made home again in the nice dark warm water meter box. Time to find them a new home. I'd love to taste that yummy honey again too. It was delicious!
Thank you for making this possible. I've always wanted to flow hive.but so expensive How would you go about making or finding the ant guards on the legs that they have now?

Try using two keys if you have them. If not I would try reopening the frame with the key fully installed and then close it a few rows at a time until closed. Make sure you don't have an obstruction. If that doesn't work I would contact honeyflow.com. I hope you get it working again.

Hey thanks for this video, I am looking at getting a flow hive or at least the super once I have a bit more on the way of income and these are some great tips :)

That is a good idea. I will see if I can track down the amazon links. Mostly what is requires is a second deep, a bracket of some sort to hold the bottom of the box together, and some shims for the inside. The only thing one really need purchase are a set of leveling legs from amazon. a.co/d/0g9vBdTa
Sure. Any deep super will work. You can get the from Betterbee, Mann Lake, Honeyflow.com, or make them yourself. The Deep Super is a standard size. I hope this helps.
Very nice! Btw after Honey harvest is over how do you clean & store the flow frames? Or do you leave them on the hive? Thanks for all the info you provide in your vids.
At the end of the season last year I put them in the freezer over night and them stored them in the closet. The freezer kills any wax moth eggs that may be on the frames. I had some non-flow frames I didn't freeze last year and when I got them out in the spring they were covered in web and the wax was destroyed. So I do recommend the freeze. Thanks for stopping in. You are appreciated.
@@BugFarmerBees Thank you so much for your quick reply. I'll put your information to good use this year(hopefully) as my bees are just now getting up into the flow frames. When the flow frames are empty, as far as cleaning for next use, do you rinse them in warm water or let the bees clean them out or you just freeze & store them away till next time. I've heard some do, some don't. Hope this makes sense & doesn't sound redundant. Appreciate your time & info. Thank you.
@@1ButterflyHunter I don't wash them out. If there is any uncapped honey in the frames at the end of the year and the bees have the frames re-sealed from the previous harvest I just set them out and let the colonies rob out the frames. Then I freeze, store, and wait for the next season. I hope this answers your question.
Hello, I'm in the central valley of California which is pretty much the ag of the world. I currently own the flow hive 2+ and I would like to attract bees to my newly deployed hive. I have put water troughs, nectar, but within the hive I have sprayed the commander and still awaiting for them to move in. So far it's been about a week and no response. Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks
I haven't had much luck attracting swarms myself but something new I am trying this year is filling the hive with old stinky comb and rubbing beeswax around on the landing board. I have been using lemon grass oil with no luck but may try the swarm commander. I wish I had the magic bullet I could share with you but I don't. Let me know how yours turns out and I'll put a video up if one of my traps brings in a swarm. Thanks for he comment. Take care.
Which website did you get the Chinese frames from? I have looked on Alibaba, but that website is a headache to even order from... Would you please share the link? Thanks.
I do not use the Chinese frames. I use OEM flow frames in both flow hives. You can purchase the knock-offs on Amazon or eBay. Before buying the knock-offs first search eBay for authentic flow frames someone may be selling. That is how I got my second set for cheap.
Yu can get the bee boxes, medium deeps, from any bee supply company. You can get the flowhive frames from honeyflow.com or look for used flowhive frames on eBay. You may also consider using the third party flow frames on Amazon for considerably less money. The feet, recap jar lids, and half gallon Ball jars can all be found on amazon.com. And that's it. Good luck on your build and thank you for watching. :-).
I guess it really depends on two things. 1. County ordinances where you live. ost areas allow up to 4 hives if you live in a neighborhood but it would be a good idea to check. Just look up bees on your county website. Secondly, define small :-) Bees don't require more than about a two foot by two foot area for their hive. If you are worried about bees flying around your small yard what you can do is build a little 4 foot by 6 foot by 6 foot high privacy fence around your hive which will give you room to work with your bees but it will make it so that their flight path is up and out. They will pretty much leave your yard the minute they take off. I hope this helps. Take care. Oh... and by the way. I like ART so I will be subbing your page. I paint acrylics and oils. Nice to meet you. :-)
@@BugFarmerBees I really appreciate you taking time writing back to my question :) , my yard is about 10 feet by 15 feet so it's enough I guess and I think the fence will be great idea. still need to check the city where I live! thanks a lot for the info Sir and I'm really happy that I found your page and glad you like Art as well ;).

I don't know why your comment isn't listed here. I can see it in the notification though. Anyway, one of my hives is an official Flow Hive 2 from Australia, and the other I built myself. The one I built myself is using real OEM flow frames from Australia that I purchased from a seller on eBay. As far as the legality of selling flow hives... I agree 1k is steep. That is why I built my own on the cheap. That said, they are novelty hives and I wouldn't recommend an apiary full of them unless you live in a magical place with a year round nectar flow. I use a pop bottle with meat and sugar syrup in the bottom with the top cut off and inverted to catch the wasps. They are carnivores and can't resist the stinky meat. They fly in and can't get out. The bees seep to ignore the trap. Take care John and thanks for stopping in to have a look.

Take care.
greetings from Turkey. Can you help me make a hive? There are no hives like this in Turkey. Thank you.
The OEM Flow Frame is 6 for $389 + shipping now, things are getting expensive!!! Thanks for the tip, I'll have to check ebay.
eBay can save you some $$. I paid full boat retail for my first one which is why I built my second. Thanks for stopping in and for taking the time to comment. Take care.

Whole lot of info in one video!!! Thank you!
Please keep it up
You are welcome. I am happy you found it useful.
Hopefully we can get an update on current pricing now too.
Straight forward and concise! Great video!
Thank you.
Omg great idea on the legs. Now I just found a use for this 3 old super boxes sitting around

Thanks for stopping in to have a look and for taking the time to drop a comment. I really appreciate it. I hope to see you in future comments.
I really wish you would have shown us exactly what to be brushing the wax on? and exactly how the bars close the hive when done extracting the honey

Excellent content.

I have some bee keeping already under my belt, from my high school days in Scouts for my Merritt Badge. Live in the country setting, already have more than I counted for Chickens and eggs. Just decide to set up a bee trap at home, around the Catus flowers that bloom and are the size of a pie pan, and the bees swarm to it. Which at the same time will be the house. Can't remember the name of it just yet, but passing now on the flow hive and building this hive, but adding the flow hive trays, etc. I will find the name and link and share it. but the smaller chambers will be for the flow sections. ua-cam.com/video/h0xS3Mw_syE/v-deo.html

I have hard time to close the flow frame Annie idea need halp
Try using two keys if you have them. If not I would try reopening the frame with the key fully installed and then close it a few rows at a time until closed. Make sure you don't have an obstruction. If that doesn't work I would contact honeyflow.com. I hope you get it working again.

That is a good idea. I will see if I can track down the amazon links. Mostly what is requires is a second deep, a bracket of some sort to hold the bottom of the box together, and some shims for the inside. Great vid thank you
Thanks.
@@BugFarmerBees yes it did & thank you so much! Again, the info you provide is greatly appreciated 🐝

Take care.

Hey my friend. Do you have the plans to modify an 8 frame Langstroth box into a 6 frame FlowHive box?
Or-do you have one you would sell me?
Just follow the video, it's an 8 frame box. It is a pretty straight forward process.
Nice hacks! Thanks for sharing!
I am glad you liked it. Thanks for watching. I appreciate your time.
Where can I buy the pieces for build this?
Yu can get the bee boxes, medium deeps, from any bee supply company. You can get the flowhive frames from honeyflow.com or look for used flowhive frames on eBay. You may also consider using the third party flow frames on Amazon for considerably less money. The feet, recap jar lids, and half gallon Ball jars can all be found on amazon.com. And that's it. Good luck on your build and thank you for watching. :-).
Great vid
Thanks for watching. Your time is appreciated. Thanks for spending it with me. Bee Happy!
Great video 👍🏻
I have a small backyard is it enough for a flow hive or could it be dangerous ?

Why My message gone away ? I am waiting for your answers please
I am not a lawyer but I suspect it is OK to sell them if you get an agreement with the folks at honeyflow.com and a good wholesale contract. That would really be a question for them though. Anyway, thanks for stopping in to have a look and I hope that I have satisfactorily answered your question. I hope to see you in future comments and maybe UA-cam comments will work next time :-).

1k is a tad steep think I have about 300 into my 3 hives I always get red wasps building nests on the back of the bottom boards guess the dead larva that get carried out are free meals
