When Rallies lasted a week. No service parks, no restart rules, no tv stage points, just pure rallying day and night. What great times for us old enough to recall them.
Spent My Easter childhood watching these on Tv and on VHS i wore the tape down rewatching them, these bring back memories, travelling to the Wicklow mountains with my dad to spectate, he would have loved to see these on here. Brilliant job preserving this!
Great to see the nightly reports again, I was out spectating on this event and it was great to see the Metro and Dai Llewellyn win. The sound of the 6R4 through stages like Barnes Gap up in the Sperrins on that last morning was fantastic. Great memories, Thanks!
Superb work VHS rallying …..really enjoyed these 5 videos, it took me back to the days watching it on Ulster TV as a kid in the IOM…..on my little portable tv …..👍👌🇮🇲
Brilliant drive by Austin mchale especially with the works rs200 breathing down his neck 👏 some achievement to come 3 .against works teams And a Good Victor in end too
The most grueling tarmac rally of all time? I'd say so. Total length almost 1000 km's, five days, 51 stages (some night ones too), muddy and wet roads with varying weather.
I saw those new Markku Alén quote T-shirts you're selling on your site and I'm just howling with laughter, absolutely brilliant idea. ''I go I go, also I go fast'', still giggling to this rally english he spoke back in the day hahahaha
It was fantastic to watch this again, so many years after the event. Great coverage. Rallying kids of today need to watch this video to see what us old farts keep going on about! :)
Says a lot about Llewellyn's shifting/clutch ability. From what i've seen, he had the least amount of gearbox problems in both the metro and the quattros. Really impressive
Beating a fire-breathing turbo.nutter.bastard RS200 in a Opel Manta. Respect. Loved Mantas, had a GT/E. Oversteer. Lots of lovely oversteer. Those (V)6R4 engines sound fantastic hooning it down the Irish B-roads!
All ireland 🇮🇪 was happy to see David Llewellin 🏴 win in the end, Austin was too far in Arrears and Russell had already3 wins..David was young 26 he drove it like a veteran a gentleman of Rallying & Phil..super project by vhsrallies 📼 well done,..Paddy Sullivan VHS 📼 1990s Cork.
It was great that the late John Price went on to campaign the Metro 6R4 , in many rally championships after they were banned from the world stage at the end of 1986!
can't think of 2 better drivers of the 6r4 on the world stage than lewellin and mcrae. definitely sewed a seed with me back in the day. british leyland went from dull and boring to kin hard overnight

No round bales every hundred yards either. 😉

It's a quote taken from the 1981 Rallye de Portugal report, which used to be on this channel but got removed relatively recently.
Hard to think with all the technology these days the coverage of this rally was way better.. what a rally it was.. not a round bale in sight.

I remember getting up in the middle of the night to watch one of the stages. I cycled 3 miles in the dark to get to the stage 😂😂😂

When rallying was great. The WRC now is a joke. Just my opinion, mind.
