Ohhhh that hallway, that long, long grey hallway. My parents had to warn me every time to not make too much noise because it ECHOED in there like crazy! I was born in 1993 and grew up in Chicopee, we mostly went to the mall when it still had Dance Dynamics in it for my ballet lessons! Great mall, miss it a lot.
In the 70's when I was in middle and high schools, where the ramps were, instead of the stairs I see in this video, there were bench seats on the lower and upper parts
To this day, my favorite mall. Grew up right down the street from 1990-2008 and got my first Gameboy and Pokemon games, and N64 at the KB toys here. Hundreds of memories at Just Fun (the arcade), Acme Surplus, the RC car racing track store, The Wall (CD/record store) and best of all was Beanie Exchange right in the front main entrance where the Pokemon Card craze gripped the entire Chicopee area. That place had all the Pokemon cards you ever needed lol. Then there was Generation X lol.
I worked at 60 Minute Photo (seen at :52). The processed prints would roll down a chute in front of the big window; people would stop to look at others' pics. I saw some things...like the prints for which we'd have to put the screen up so onlookers wouldn't see them. 😳 Fun job. RIP, Fairfield Mall.
3 thumbs up !! I clearly recall just fun arcade on snow days or just missing a day of school by mistake and Tokin up , then spending a few hours at just fun then Lucas pizza for a few slices .. , lets just say it sure the hell was an awesome time and I swear there were human beings all over the place , ANYHOW Just fun had an awesome smell along with tshirt express where they had a TON of prints ready to hot steam on to tshirts Those were awesome times I'll never forget even if I get Mallsheimers
Here's a blast from the past. Remember in Just Fun they had the little race car you could go in - and it had a purple windshield and lit up and went back and forth lol
Wow!! I worked at a shoe store "Roma Footware" for about a year in this mall in approximately mid 1990s. Also I remember a gym I worked at had rented the Bradley's and was remodeling it to be East Coast Fitness..however it fell through. So many memories. There was a Motomart behind Bradley's I dated a cashier from there for a while. And I went to Porter and Chester Computer however this location was being emptied when I started at the school in 2000. Oh and there was a Motor Vehicle Department where I use to renew my license because it was an express location. Now it's a strip mall ..the wave of the future outdoor shopping instead of indoors.
Next time you film something, here a couple of tips. Hold the camera firm, take your time filming and film a subject for 2-3 minutes so people have a clue what your filming! Other wise hold the camera loose, or toss it across the subject area fast so it rolls and nobody has a clue what's being filmed! And go speeding by the area of filming in a car! Don't forget to get some useless sky shot on film also!
This is home video with video taken from a camera in 1997. There were *no* cell phone cameras. If you walked into a store with a video camera, which was NOT small, you got noticed right away and almost always forced to leave or turn it off. Considering this, it is a blessing this amateur footage exists.
@@DeadMallsMedia I pointing out that the person filming seemed to have an unsteady hand for filming and seems to be to quick on moving the camera motion to fast. Nothing to do with what year your filming! Your main concern about filming should have been trespassing on the property, since it was closed! I would have tried to get permission from security if they were watching the lots in the mall area. Or tried to find out who still owned the mall property and get it from them. The person filming could have filmed slowly from the parking lot outside or walking area and took their time. There were no trespassing signs, and the public area outside was where you parked and made you an invitee on the property. That was all, could have did a little better at it.
@@melvinmuddfuckle4263 when this was being filmed the concept of uploading a video of this size and length to the internet for anybody else to have seen it would have been pure fantasy. The concept that anybody would even have a fascination with dead retail was pretty non existent. This was back when they were just screengrabbing from whatever they filmed and uploading crappy 120x120 pictures for their little website

My favorite mall when I was a kid in the '90's
Lucas pizza
Mine too. Was best in the early 80s though. Holyoke Mall killed it. Now it’s Holyoke Mall’s turn
I was asked to play Santa on Christmas season. A skinny Santa. They stuffed my suit with a bunch of pillows.

Great pizza, a Dollar Store(sort-of), a CVS, fabulous!
My aunt used to take us here when we were small. We'd each get a slice from the pizza place and sit in those white metal chairs
Went here when I was little before it got turned to Walmart. Wow brings back memories from the past.
This July the Eastfield Mall in Springfield is closing after 56 years of operation and being torn down and replaced with a open air plaza.
I can’t wait when there’s one on Rotterdam Square. Thanks again for putting my story on your webpage!

I remember this place when Caldor and Bradlees were the anchors! Former Enfield, CT/Springfield MA resident
Yep, all throughout the 1990s. Remember Ames down the street too?
@@enthused7591 Of course! I worked at one while in school for a summer right before they went under!
I remember when Two Guys was the anchor where Bradley’s went after they closed
Would love to see you cover the Berkshire Mall in Lanesborough, MA. Other than a Target & movie theater, it's dead
My parents got a dining room set from Caldors before they closed down
Damn this video was made before 9/11

Closed down , use to go there early 80 s
Fairfield, Eastfield mall failures. . . .who's next?
Awesome work!
Nice!
Awesome. Love seeing this old footage. I wonder what it looks like today, if it still exists.
Long gone, I'm afraid. WalMart Supercenter and Home Depot on the lot now.
@@DeadMallsMedia Yep.
Outdoor mall now, home depot on the north side and walmart supercenter on the south side, very very different now and much more crowded which sucks!
Nice tecno music 🎶 🎵
Now that's some cool footage!
