Marling spike is the original term..it has morphed into Marlin spike.. for rope ladders constrictor knot might be useful..maybe even double figure 8 hitch
This knot is not that secure in fact if you tie one and put your hand through the loop and pull it tight against your wrists it will come undone simply by twisting your wrist.
For the first time I didn't have to stop and rewind several times to understand a knot! Very good and easy tutorial! Thank you! :)

What is your tool called? Mine is called rodger. Rodger the todger. But the thing you're using is a marlin spike. Marlin - not marline.
