  • The University of Pretoria’s Centre for the Future of Work has launched a website to tackle youth unemployment. The initiative is said to foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders, including the private sector, public sector, civil society, academic institutions and students. Unemployment figures for the youth remain at increasingly high levels. So how will this new website contribute to youth employment?
Deputy Director at UP's Centre for the Future of Work, Dr Olebogeng Selebi explains.

This is what we expect from institutions of higher learning. They need to lead the charge in innovative solutions for current and future problems plaguing societies in which they operate. Well done UP

This is powerful and innovative because old methods of employment contribute to unemployment and enslaves creativity.

Unfortunately you need abundance of that old fashion jobs to innovate from. Innovation from zero is difficult hence i believe this should form part of the research, it's not the solution.

You can have all the skills and knowledge, but if you don't have the essential capital, or connections to reach those who can provide capital, without crazy returns expected, than you are still essentially stuck when it comes to starting from the ground up. She makes it sound much easier and delightful than it actually is. Remember those who have the capital might judge you based on your skin colour, based on the Uni you attended, based on how you speak, it can be anything. It is their money

Entrepreneurship is not easy that's why people choose career route. I agree with her parts of her problem explanation.

The reality is ... Too many young people with zero skills attempting to obtain employment in a diminishing employment market owing to the toxic anc government.
Problem solving should begin with serious birth control programs to stand a chance of getting a grip on the unemployment

Well said, there is no overnight solutions. Even those who enter the workplace are incompetent
