Original GPU prices in Taiwan video: ua-cam.com/video/vgNirAOLRDQ/v-deo.html Sorry for the color balance in the beginning. Anyway, this is one of our last few pieces from our Asia trip. We have a few Ask GNs in the pipe, a special episode from Japan, and are finally back home doing testing for this coming week. Check the GN store to support us with merch purchases: store.gamersnexus.net/
You might want to check out Shenzhen if you like this kind of stuff. 60% of global computer stuff is manufactured there, including most of the stuff seen in this video.
There's also a whole street in Taipei that deals in nothing but cameras, from vintage to ultra modern. Even secondhand stuff is in excellent condition. A Canon EOS70D was about £999 when it was first launched. Got it for £650 in Taipei. Whilst I love Taiwan, I would totally get lost in Shenzhen. Imagine every little (or big) electronics component you can... and you will find it...
It thrives in most popular asian cities. Its one of the few things im jealous of china and other asian countries for. This video was literally just a few small shops, if you check out some other channels there are literally millions of these places, and some 'mall' type area's that are several miles long of just bulk stuff like this. Its really cool, but the haggling for everything would stress me out.
Incredible what one can find in those shops; so many parts that are difficult to come by in the US. Would be amazing if the Gamers Nexus team and Buildzoid ever explored that plaza together; the possibilities of commentary. May never happen however one can dream.
The Multi-Input Thermometer at 16:06 could be intended for use when working with hazardous materials. The larger buttons would allow one to operate the device while wearing bulky protective equipment.
I bought a random wireless mouse from ebay (came from china) in like 2007-2010 for 12$, back in the day wireless mice sucked, but that one was amazing, it had one of those super small USB receivers and even with that the mouse still worked 50 feet away from the receiver (that wasn't possible for even my 20$ logitech and 30$ microsoft mouse from those days, also these more expensive mice during these days had a bigger receiver), super responsive and the thing never broke, I stopped using it around 2015 but I plugged it in in 2017 and it still worked, even with the battery acid that leaked out of a battery that I forgot inside. Basically the mouse lasted a decade and it didn't even broke! amazing if you ask me... It's rare but sometimes chinese stuff is well built.
There is some places like this in the US, Electronics Surplus in New Hampshire is the one I know of. But they do alot more than the electronics there. Basically places tat buy out inventory when a factory closes is what you want to look for
The first store that you spent quite a lot of time in is kind of like the Sam's Club of Radio Shack. We need stores like this in the states. It's too bad we don't have much of a market for people fixing or even making their own cpmputer components. A store like this would be awesome, but it would not survive. Unfortunately, people usually just replace things before they repair them.
wouldnt you need rampant failures first? what's wrong with online stores selling the parts? retail is inefficient (edit: & expensive just to lease a building)
I am definitely an internet shopper. I don't know where you are from, but about the only things I buy at a store are perishable foods (meat, dairy and frozen). I don't know about inefficient in all scenarios. If I want a part right now, which honestly isn't often, local retail would win. It would definitely fail in the long run. Radio Shack in North America is a perfect example. I agree that it is less expensive for an online retailer mainly because of the brick and mortar storefront reason. An online retailer can store this stuff however they want and fill the orders as they come in. Once again the Internet prevails and reigns supreme!
Oh Stevie Wonder, ISA wasn't just for graphics, it was *the* expansion card slot for everything, video cards, sound cards, dialup modems, ethernet cards, everything. Back in the day motherboards only held a CPU/RAM and took keyboard/mouse, and that was it. There was no onboard audio, video, ethernet, etc. You had to buy those things separately and plug them into your ISA slots.
Looks like your typical Jaycar electronics stores here in Aus from about 10 years ago when they were actually electronics and not just a gimmick/gadget store like they are now. Now we have mobs like RS components which are online only but their range is freaking huge! and free delivery too. They have stuff from general wiring to aerospace specific connectors to any type of semi conductor one would need. I even got Delphi automotive connector terminals I was not able to source from the USA, where basically Delphi is. Very similar to Mouser electronics that you guys have over there but a bit bigger in range.
I wonder how these places are enjoying the influx of UA-camr's with film crew in tow, judging their every bit of existence... I mean, seems enjoyable. I'm sure they love it. Joking aside, I've viewed way too many of these videos already... But you's is an above the cut version, at least to me. You migrate to the good stuff...
That stuff was cool and all but it would have been interesting to find out what the locals are shopping for and trying to make from the parts in those stores.
pure software of course, all cameras get confused & humans especially can make it worse when they calibrate the entire image based on the skin tone of the subject rather than accounting for the ambient light/weather/etc
Amazon has like a million versions of that first mouse all with cheap company's logos on it. It is utter crap of course. My girlfriend got one and discarded it.
Thats the problem with Amazon these days, they've become fleabay 2.0, where people just offload white label (generic brands, relabeled) crappy merchandise.
o the horror! i had to sort misc. resistors as a kid! tech Jesus is giving me flashbacks D: what kinds of food are u gunna try in Taiwan? stinky fried tofu? BBQ pork? shark fin soup? dim sum? .... humus?
a question for ask gn: is it safe to mix termal compounds (meduium length back storry) i was installing a new cooler and had to put new compound on but ran out of kryonaut so i just left the rest on and just put on some cooler master mastergel pro that was included with my cooler and i want to know if having mixed kryonaut and mastergel pro will cause any problems?
you will test for us, if they're not conductive should be ok in some form, try to find out their ingredients to see if they compare did you take a pic of your application?
i aplied The compound with The Standard dot in The Middle Method and The other Paste was mostly The leftovers from The First aplication. Edit: i read up in The ingidiances and mastergel pro uses some Sort of polimer oxid and kryonaut Nano Aluminium oxides and nano Zink oxides

White balance issue? Just brand it as a low blue light technology adventure video to help you sleep.
ISA, yeah so. Proceeds to joke about it, funny. Then reality hits me, I'm OLD :( ......lol.
Very INTERESTING PLAZA making RADIO SHACK look shame. Oh that is right there is no RADIO SHACK any more
thanks for the outstanding video. would loved to have had the ability to visit other countries market places when i was a younger man.
8:00 Check out "Halted" electronics (HSC Electronic supply) in Santa Clara, Ca. They have a website you can search. Tubs of components......
In America, we have stores that sell GPUs. In Taiwan, they have stores where you can build a GPU.
this is better than 99% of actual computex demos
That cable management 1:50!
Now I feel better about my unmanaged PC cables, lmao.
I thought you meant his hair.
Edit: Language
Apply Kirchovs Law
This gave me Thailand flashbacks. Every intersection in Bangkok has cabling like that...often worse. Amazing.
I feel like Steve was summoning the god of cable combs to sort out that mess by doing that with his hair.
Come on Steve! Admit it, you're just there looking to see if they made GN Mod mats ripoffs yet ;)
4:00 Rare footage of TechJesus choosing his first Nokia cellphone (1998, colorized)
love your sponsored ad at the start "this video is sponsored by this product that performs reasonably well" most honest ad I've ever seen lol
Didn’t Intel have to run cables like that in the 28 core demo?
Wow that building on the left on the intro looks straight out of one of the newer Deus Ex games :X
This is one of the best tech review channels on the internet, hands down.
heads up seven up
im going to taiwan for that plaza. damn
I m a bit jalous because there is no such thing in france. There are even only a handful retailers for graphic cards.
I've never seen anything like this in the US either.
Like a much larger version of what Radio Shack was in the 70s-80s
You might want to check out Shenzhen if you like this kind of stuff. 60% of global computer stuff is manufactured there, including most of the stuff seen in this video.

Free market and consumer culture is alive and thriving in Taipei.
It thrives in most popular asian cities. Its one of the few things im jealous of china and other asian countries for. Steve goes to a tech playground.
Incredible what one can find in those shops; so many parts that are difficult to come by in the US. Would be amazing if the Gamers Nexus team and Buildzoid ever explored that plaza together; the possibilities of commentary. May never happen however one can dream.
i don't know why. but there is just something charming about those small cramped shops
That hakko fx-888D @ 14:46 is a really good soldering unit, I only see those online. Keep posting the cultural aspect videos, there really cool.
Awesome video, looks like heaven lol, tech and gadgets everywhere you look
The Multi-Input Thermometer at 16:06 could be intended for use when working with hazardous materials. The larger buttons would allow one to operate the device while wearing bulky protective equipment.
DUDE lmao i bought that exact same mouse with different rgb design on it for $3 from china. It works fucking amazing for $3
It works if you dont drop 1kg rice bag on top of it. But luckily at that price I bought 2 and still using it.
I bought a random wireless mouse from ebay (came from china) in like 2007-2010 for 12$, back in the day wireless mice sucked, but that one was amazing, it had one of those super small USB receivers and even with that the mouse still worked 50 feet away from the receiver (that wasn't possible for even my 20$ logitech and 30$ microsoft mouse from those days, also these more expensive mice during these days had a bigger receiver), super responsive and the thing never broke, I stopped using it around 2015 but I plugged it in in 2017 and it still worked, even with the battery acid that leaked out of a battery that I forgot inside. agree completely, wish we had those stores in the U.S.-yes you could order everything online but there's something about seeing it in person
There is some places like this in the US, Electronics Surplus in New Hampshire is the one I know of. But they do alot more than the electronics there. Basically places tat buy out inventory when a factory closes is what you want to look for

17:46 heck yes! I havent heard of this new fangled "ISA" slot in a bit. They should bring it back!
Enjoyed this video, thanks!
Look at all that smog!
Oh Stevie Wonder, ISA wasn't just for graphics, it was *the* expansion card slot for everything, video cards, sound cards, dialup modems, ethernet cards, everything. cant wait for the part 3
GN had the best coverage of all Computex by far.
That was very interesting, I love the tour of the electronic stores. RadioShack on steroids.
Oh wow !!! That PCI post code reader i remeber them for YEARS ago we had an ISA one in our shop.
Showing my age here... I still have an Ultra-X R.A.C.E.R. II ISA diagnostics board w/post code reader.
Probebly get totally lost browsing those shops, nerd paradise.
Gotta love the white balance. Jokes aside, great video Tech Jesus!
Nope. We just filmed on a day when the sky was alight with asteroids. It's a normal weather pattern.
Maaaaaybe the editor was not going for accuracy but for his own creative vision, you know, maybe.
I still have an old ISA Sound Blaster.
It probably still works lol
there are a few places like that parts store. i know in california there is riverside wholesale same style and layout.
Hehe.. Welcome to Toys Nexus!
There is a similar store in Salem Oregon called Norvac Electronics
Transforming. Best movie!
Gamer's Nexus Toy Reviews with your 4 year old host Steve Burke.
Are we going to see the Solar Bug benchmarked?
Transforming benchmarks vs core i9 7980xe.
He should volt mod it with a bigger spec solar panel
Look for local electronic surplus stores. A good one will stock resistors and caps for cheap.
Thanks for the walk through, I wish we had a place like this in the United States.
Hong Kong has a plaza like this too
That cable management in that street! LMAO
Steve, hope to see you in Guangzhou/Shenzhen.
armageddon is a singapore origin if not mistaken. a lot of them here in malaysia selling.

Very similar to Mouser electronics that you guys have over there but a bit bigger in range.
You might be able to found similar shops in China Town. DIY is a virtue in some cultures.
Steve do you still have Radio Shacks by you? The only place to get component parts near me is an industrial shop.
GN hello, What is the vertical gpu kit 5 or 6 episode ago that was sponsored called. Where can I buy it from? Thank You.
That Mouse is sold in Holland under the brand Maxxter
That mouse also doubles as a hand warmer!
Omg that power supply that says Enjoy Your Life... I'm dying lol
"Enjoy your life because it's gonna be a short one" LOL
Why is there a PT. 2/2 in the video? I was looking for PT 1 before starting this. Where is it?
the pci debug is great tool you should get one and there is some with pci express support
There's a decent chance the "Hakko" visible at 14:48 is a cheap knockoff. Search YT for, "Louis Rossman fake hakko".
Awesome, love it!
13:30 Sia chandelier song? Hope no copyright strike...
when can we expect a review on those solar toys?
That stuff was cool and all but it would have been interesting to find out what the locals are shopping for and trying to make from the parts in those stores.
Those debug cards would be useful for us retro PC guys. I have stuff with PCI and ISA.
this is the part were i let you know that i Love to solder this made me happy
would love to get a storage upgrade
The mouse by 12:53 actually IS designed in germany by a german company called Perixx. Pretty surprised about this.
are you sure such component shops dont exist in the US? there was at least one in canada (well ok, it closed last few years)
I took a shot everytime Steve touched his hair. I'm hammered
Wow a isa debug card, now i can finally figure out if its my voodoo 3 or my soundblaster 16 causing the irq errors.
Maybe it's the Parallel Card or the two 9 pin serials headers on backwards.
oh snap, the best cheap kb/mouse combo, logitech MK120 at 14:10
is that just taiwan at dusk/dawn normally, or is that just extreme color correction?
pure software of course, all cameras get confused & humans especially can make it worse when they calibrate the entire image based on the skin tone of the subject rather than accounting for the ambient light/weather/etc
Cool stuff!
Whats your data plan? How do you upload so many videos while in foreign country? Internet cafe?
MrElvenfire Likely from their hotel.
You can buy an unlimited 4g SIM for a month at the airports for 1000ntd ($30). Try getting that kind of deal in the US lol.
OMG! This is my heaven.
ISA is still used for industrial control computers.
Amazon has like a million versions of that first mouse all with cheap company's logos on it. It is utter crap of course. My girlfriend got one and discarded it.
Thats the problem with Amazon these days, they've become fleabay 2.0, where people just offload white label (generic brands, relabeled) crappy merchandise.
someone else said it was amazing for $3, now i'm wondering how much production variance there is
Is that TiN guiding you through the stores?
The awesome part is that i might have bought something from these shops through AliExpress.
Only thing that Guang Hua missing is the GN ModMat XC. btw everyone is welcome to TaiwanXDDD
Great thumbnail
12:30 knockoff mandela effect? TRANSFORMINGS!
o the horror! i had to sort misc. resistors as a kid! tech Jesus is giving me flashbacks D: what kinds of food are u gunna try in Taiwan? stinky fried tofu? BBQ pork? shark fin soup? dim sum? .... humus?
Asus and Co. watch out, GN motherboards coming in Q1 2019
It's a shame that there aren't many stores like this in America.
a question for ask gn:
is it safe to mix termal compounds (meduium length back storry) i was installing a new cooler and had to put new compound on but ran out of kryonaut so i just left the rest on and just put on some cooler master mastergel pro that was included with my cooler and i want to know if having mixed kryonaut and mastergel pro will cause any problems?

did you take a pic of your application?
i aplied The compound with The Standard dot in The Middle Method and The other Paste was mostly The leftovers from The First aplication.
Edit: i read up in The ingidiances and mastergel pro uses some Sort of polimer oxid and kryonaut Nano Aluminium oxides and nano Zink oxides
That plaza must be a wet dream for Buildzoid.
18:32 Can they also upgrade my GTX1080 to 16GB Vram ?
The ISA standard was created 37 years ago. Mind blown
JayzTwoCents video editor is legit colorblind, I guess you guys hired one too?
Muhaha! Guess who got a bigger resistor shelf...
Reminds of when I went to Hong Kong.
'Enjoy your Life' OMEGALUL I'm fkn dying
THE MIGHTY POWERFUL seven BUTTON!
Half expecting @Collin Abroadcast to walk past the store.
YEEEEAH! Another one of these :D
STEVE! your mandarin is pretty good!
I am gonna mark this video for breakfast.
steve looks at toys
I have that 4-1 transforming robot on my desk right now at home.
the one on sprues? how well did it turn out? are the ball joints brittle like the super old gundams?
No Gravitas it was not great. It now just sits there for my kids to play with
1:52 Rat's nest that probably has a real rat's nest.
Bro , your channel is growing and believe me I am happy for you but do you even lift ?
Makes me miss Radioshack
