    • Isa 55:13 Instead of the thornbush will grow the Juniper and instead of briers the myrtle will grow. This will be for the Lord’s renown for an everlasting sign, that will endure forever.”
    • The first time we read of thorns is in Gen 3:18 - It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. They represent the curse on the land
    • This curse was overturned by Jesus. Matt 27:29 and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head.
    • What are the thorns in our life? In place of that, God plants the Juniper, a sign of blessing.
    • Let’s look at 5 thorns in the bible and how God removes them and plants the Juniper:
    • #1: The thorn of shame. Ezek 28:24 ‘No longer will the people of Israel have malicious neighbors who are painful briers and sharp thorns. Then they will know that I am the Sovereign Lord.
    • Gen 29:31 When the Lord saw that Leah was not loved, he enabled her to conceive, but Rachel remained childless. Leah experienced the thorn of lovelessness. And God saw it and blessed her with a child. Then she says - now my husband will love me. Yet Jacob did not. Even after the subsequent three children, her cry does not change. Finally, after Judah’s 4th one, she says I will praise the Lord. The chapter ends, saying she bore no more.
    • Yet, God reopened her womb in the next chapter and gave her more children. When the world says it’s over, God opens a new source for us. With God, nothing is impossible.
    • Gen 49:31 There Abraham and his wife Sarah were buried, there Isaac and his wife Rebekah were buried, and there I buried Leah. In Machpelah, the same place where his grandfather lay. Rachel was buried by the wayside, but the unloved wife got a royal burial.
    • 1 Sam 1:6. We see another example in Hannah. She had an aching, agonizing, poured-out heart. But in the end, we see she received a joyful heart when the Lord answered her prayer.
    • See David, Ps 55:12 If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; Yet God lifted his head. Luke 1:32 Our Lord Jesus Himself will sit on the throne of David, a blessing for David’s shame.
    • Joseph was afflicted and in pain, and his brothers did not care. They mercilessly sold him to slave traders. Though he cried out for mercy, they turned a deaf ear. Yet after 22 years they were there before him bowing down; Joseph sent them in chariots in the place where they saw him being dragged by chariots to Egypt. He gave them food, and they sent him hungry. They sold him for 20 silver coins, and he filled their sack with money. This was the response of a man whose shame God had taken away.
    • #2: the thorn that leaches away our wealth. Isa 7:23 In that day, in every place where there were a thousand vines worth a thousand silver shekels,[g] there will be only briers and thorns.
    • #3: the thorn that destroys our happiness. Isa 32:13 and for the land of my people, a land overgrown with thorns and briers-yes, mourn for all houses of merriment and for this city of revelry.
    • For all 3 thorns, God will remove and restore honor, prosperity, and happiness.
    • #4: the thorn that blocks the path. Hos 2:6 Therefore I will block her path with thornbushes; I will wall her in so that she cannot find her way. God will destroy the obstacles to our children’s future, our future.
    • #5: the thorn of this world that chokes the seed of Word.
    • How will God remove the thorns?
    • Isa 10:17 The Light of Israel will become a fire, their Holy One a flame; in a single day, it will burn and consume his thorns and his briers.
    • He will not simply pluck the thorns out. HE will burn it Himself, completely consuming it by the root.
    • It says “his thorns” - whose is it? The Assyrian’s. Isa 37. Then the angel of the Lord went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up the next morning-there were all the dead bodies!
    • In one day God destroyed the Assyrian thorn.
    • Ezek 28: 24 “‘No longer will the people of Israel have malicious neighbors who are painful briers and sharp thorns. Then they will know that I am the Sovereign Lord.
    • Whose thorns are these? v22. This is the thorn of Sidon. Jezebel was from Sidon. A hidden thorn, piercing from behind.
