Early reporting appreciated! Looking forward to your testing, and comparison with other watches. ECG certification medical grade as you say takes time, and I can imagine Polar didn't want to wait for it, but launch anyway. Perhaps the next iteration will have it. ECG applications come with limitations, for example on my Samsung, values which indicate fibrillation but are above a pulse of 120 are not reliable and hence those results are reported as "uncertain." When fibrillation occurs frequently the values are above 120 in a readout, so this limits the usefulness of the device. Credit to Samsung for being transparent about this. Polar's orthostatic test is based on HRV and is pretty useful for athletes, and I believe this requires ECG capability to be carried out. As for using the screen as a light, on my Galaxy Watch I make a movement with the wrist and it turns on the screen. Brightness can be adjusted by turning the bezel. A very useful function. Have fun at the Ironman in Hawaii!
My Garmin Venu 2 Plus had the same disclaimer (and I had to cross a border to activate the ECG module), so I don't know how this is all that different.
I would appreciate a deep comparison vs Garmin FR 965. What would you recommend for Half Aquabike races, open swimming races and swimming pool workouts? What about smartphone music control when using, i.e., Aeroshokz openrun?
A small thing, but does the V3 support more than 4 items on the display during an activity? The V2 doesn't, but I've had that on the Coros Apex although pretty much readable running. Maybe on a 1.39in screen it might be useful.
Polar vantage v3 is priced quite high. But its one of the cheapest Sapphire glass watches. With that taken into consideration, the V3 should be considered.
Shame there's no onbord routing like Garmin has been doing for over a decade ,but I welcome some competition... hopefully other companies will catch up with Garmins routing and mapping abilities sometime soon. Thanks for another great information upload.
Glad Polar are trying to keep up. Garmin needs more competition. This watch is a real improvement over the V2. Too bad the price has gone up significantly too. Polars are hard to beat if you're looking of a cheaper but fully capable sportswatch with the Pacer series but are a bit behind on the high end. This one is unfortunately nowhere near the Garmin Forerunner 965 and costs almost the same.
As a disclaimer I am a Polar user, haven been for years now, and I am more into the outdoor watch market, but if I had to pick between the FR965 and the V3, I'd pick the V3. I' have had Garmin devices in the past and the interface is so full of everything it is simply overkill, and you get a lot of functions which, in my case and experience, you simply do not use or pay attention to.
Is there anything better out there with similar price? Just wondering how's that compared with the new Suunto watch and Garmin ones? Weird it even doesn't have a wifi do download maps but looks like it does have lot's of good sport and recovery related stuff in there? Just wondering can they do better than Garmin and others?
I’ve had three Polar watches now V800, V1 and V2 and the one function I think is missing in the triathlon profile is the ability for the optical HR from the watch to be transferred directly to the bike computer after the swim. As the V2 doesn’t transfer over ant+ you can’t currently do this so I have to use something like a H10 or Verity Sense. DC can you find out if this has been fixed on this model (think the wahoo watch).
+1, have same need. I believe some of the recent Polars have the ability to broadcast. It will however only be on BT not ANT+, as Polar have never supported this protocol
I mean, what does an "ECG" function like this provide that previous watches didn't already do? Avg HR, HRV, beat-to-beat, that's not really anything new, correct? Aside from that, looks pretty neat. But 14.5 thickness? Can't wear something like that to sleep..
Have they resolved the continual drop out of the connection between your phone? I found the previous models very unreliable. I see the run testers have noted this as an issue.

Is it possible that you have got a little mixed up with the certifications? The CE mark is a prerequisite for the European Economic Area for the first placing on the market.
Nope. There's multiple things at place. FDA certification for the unit for ECG as a SaaMD. Then, there's various CE markings, including some explicitily for ECG as a medical device, covered under Medical Device Regulation 2017/745 (MDR).
I can't imagine they would. It'd be a bloodbath. That market is incredibly mature now with Garmin, Hammerhead, and Wahoo. And any new entrant (which is what Polar would be at this point), would take massive development funding to make happen.

Why do they keep releasing watches but won’t just offline music storage? Frustrating because I’d like to go with polar, but sometimes I don’t want to carry my phone with me on a workout.
Because they can't get the business contacts in place with Spotify/etc because they are far too small (by many many millions of watches). And there's no meaningful demand for offline MP3 access in 2023. :(

My colleague felt like having a heart attack last week at work... he checked his ECG on his Apple watch several times and it said he was OK, but he went to the hospital anyway, and of course, the watch was wrong and he really had a heart attack. So don't be too excited about ECG in your watch, it might be useless. (of course, this is just one specific case)

@@Dcrainmaker it does, that is the puspose of ECG, to check for heart issues and irregularities. Why else is it there? And of course they say that to give up any legal responsibility.
@@martinvardan6040 nope. I think what ECG on apple watch is for is to detect arythmias (alterations of the heart rate). Heart attack is not always associated with arythmias.

In a clinic you have a twelve-lead ecg and you can read a lot of other cardiac arrhythmia out of it. And also intoxications, problems with your electrolytes and heart attacks. With an Apple Watch and all other watches it is just Impossible, due to missing electrodes.
I've owned a vantage v3 for about 2 months now and I'm not really that impressed. Coming from a Huawei GT3, I think I'd prefer to go back to that. Firstly, 95% of functions are done by the buttons which are awkward to press. The wrist lift wake up doesn't work well and requires a few lift/flicks. When using on a treadmill it says over 1 km more distance than the treadmill (the Huawei used to be spot on) and it doesn't give an option to edit the distance on completion like Huawei. It can't answer phone calls or play music. Can't get it to show calories during a workout. Doesn't show the time during a workout. The phone notifications don't stay long enough and don't show on the main face if you wake it by the button (which I have to do often as lift to wake doesn't work). The alarm snooze and cancel buttons are annoying. The offline maps are difficult to use, can't pinch in and out with touch and must use the buttons. The proprietary charging cable is annoying and prefer the wireless of the Huawei which I could charge on any wireless charger. And finally the ECG test is unhelpful as it doesn't identify any irregular heartbeat etc. The Huawei at less than half the price is better.
I always watch your videos and read on polar vs garmin. Although I’m in the polar cycle now for 10 years. I’ve tried a lot of their watches in the past. M2 currently. Decided to pre order this one. In the past I’ve been very disappointed with Polars lack of design. They create these bulky watches and as a result on a female wrist is it gets caught on every coat I own. I’ve dealt at this point but hoping this new version is better. Such a small gripe but it’s annoying 😂
All in all it is an attractive new version of the watch. The huge issue for a current user of Polar products that I immediately see is that they not only kept a proprietary watch side connector for battery charge, but they also changed it. This is extremely bad since it makes immediately obsolete all the existing accessories one could inherit from older products. Moreover, in the long run this will make also old products to become obsolete faster, since the old chargers will disappear from the market and there will be no replacements in case of need.
I don't get it. I think they still missed the right spot in the market. First, right now it's more expensive than Garmin Fenix standard edition without all those smart features that it provides. We could have argument if ECG would have been certified (to compare with 7 Pro, but it's not a case). Secondly, I don't understand why they decided to use curved display. It will collect a lot of scratches. I like addition of offline maps, but longevity of curved screen and higher price/feature ratio doesn't inspire me to upgrade.
Hmm..? Polar has made a nice watch but my impression is that this Polar top watch Vantage 3 does not measure up with Garmin and Apple top watches. Watches with FirstBeat’s licensed technology has and are leaving others behind. The sports watch Pioneer Polar’s vantage has shrunk!
Why do some watch manufacturers think that something like blood oxygen is even remotely beneficial, but don’t include something super basic like the ability to play music from the watch?
Because playing music is actually insane complicated/hard. Or more specifically, playing the music you want. 99% of consumers don't want simply MP3 playback (which is easy), they want offline streaming services (e.g. Spotify/Amazon Music/etc...), which is impossible for Polar to get contractually, as Spotify no longer allows sign-ups of new companies within that platform. Polar is orders of magnitude too small to qualify.
@@caderik1386 Totally agree, but they could at least offer local mp3 playback similar to what Garmin does. For some people (like me) it's just a deal-breaker regardless of how good everything else is. I just can't go back carrying a phone while running or at the gym.
@@Dcrainmaker I'm with you on that except for local mp3 playback. Storage shouldn't be the issue and a BT module is also available. Im Just sad because the features of the watch are quite interesting and it would be good to have a viable alternative to Garmin. Great video btw 👍
@@slgalvin it’s just pointless. What’s even the point in including it? Unless you’re a doctor and trained to read an ECG, it’s completely stupid to include. Only reason people will buy it, is thinking it’ll do something useful (like detecting AFib). I’d rather Polar didn’t include it at all and knocked a bit off the price. Hopefully it’s a case of them applying for certification in retrospect and enabling AFib detection at a later date.
I am sick of those closed ecosystems. After a Polar M600, Vantage M and Grit X another product that ties me to a manufacturer's ecosystem, where the maps are only used if I give in into more closed ecosystems? This watch is too thick/ too fat. And too heavy. Is there some one who can sleep with this? The screen, with the curves, is ugly. So for me, I stay with the Pacer Pro.
Polar is still absolutely not appealing to me. The implementation of the flashlight via AMOLED screen is a really bad idea due to the tendency of AMOLED Displays to burn in - especially if you bump up the brightness over a prolonged time. 1:55 Territory of Nacho Cheese.
Thanks for sharing their ECG gimmick.
Where do I find the Territory of Nacho Cheese?🤔
😂
I love those small easter eggs in videos 😀
South of Pizzaland!
Scrolled down to see if I was the only one who noticed! 😂🧀
The Huawei at less than half the price is better.
for accuracy, Polar is still on the top... no gadgets.... That's what i want...
While that was the case years ago, more recent models haven’t seen that be the case. Hence, an area I’m focused on.
That’s a lot of nacho cheese! 😂
It is like a Coros apex 2 pro?
Routing only with Komoot? That's weird! Should work with any GPX-track!
Спасибо за конструктивный и развёрнутый обзор, не по русски только, ну ладно
I thought it still looked pretty sluggish. Hard to tell over youtube I suppose. I hope they do well, if just to push the market as a whole.
Does it have nfc to make payment?
No NFC payments.
buy a smartphone
New Suunto Race looks soooo much better, and I'm not trying to promote anything, myself I am using an Epix 2.
@@Fireinthestubble But it comes with Suunto's trademark laggy UI.
🤝🤝
All in all it is an attractive new version of the watch. The huge issue for a current user of Polar products that I immediately see is that they not only kept a proprietary watch side connector for battery charge, but they also changed it. This is extremely bad since it makes immediately obsolete all the existing accessories one could inherit from older products. Moreover, in the long run this will make also old products to become obsolete faster, since the old chargers will disappear from the market and there will be no replacements in case of need.
First! 😀
The watch UI feels a little bit outdated in looks.
Still no Ant+ ? :)
useless
I don't get it. I think they still missed the right spot in the market. First, right now it's more expensive than Garmin Fenix standard edition without all those smart features that it provides. We could have argument if ECG would have been certified (to compare with 7 Pro, but it's not a case). Secondly, I don't understand why they decided to use curved display. It will collect a lot of scratches. I like addition of offline maps, but longevity of curved screen and higher price/feature ratio doesn't inspire me to upgrade.
I need wear os
Territory of Nacho Cheese?
Territory of Nacho Cheese?????????
Meht
599. Bye
Another curved Amoled satellite dish. Sigh.
Still no offline music…that’s crazy! The Hardware should be more than capable…
it's not hardware it is licensing. Prob not easy for Polar to get a deal with spotify
@@caderik1386 Totally agree, but they could at least offer local mp3 playback similar to what Garmin does.
For some people (like me) it's just a deal-breaker regardless of how good everything else is. I just can't go back carrying a phone while running or at the gym.
There's zero chance Polar could get the business agrements in place for Spotify/Amazon/etc - those doors all closed years ago.
@@Dcrainmaker I'm with you on that except for local mp3 playback. Storage shouldn't be the issue and a BT module is also available.
Im Just sad because the features of the watch are quite interesting and it would be good to have a viable alternative to Garmin.
Great video btw 👍
Why do you want music? Listen to nature (Sorry if you live in a busy city)
Polar is improving, but they still look far behind garmin watches.
not for accuracy in sport mode.... For gadgets (music, etc) garmin is leading
ECG without AFib detection is just a misleading gimmick. Shocking for Polar to even include this.
Slow. Fat. 8 days on battery vs 24+ on Garmin 965, like Polar why u reased them?
I am sick of those closed ecosystems. After a Polar M600, Vantage M and Grit X another product that ties me to a manufacturer's ecosystem, where the maps are only used if I give in into more closed ecosystems? As far as I can see the Google Pixel Watch 2 beats all watches out there by a big margin and I can run my own software.
Huh? Not sure I follow on maps.
@@DcrainmakerWell, can I put my own maps on the watch (maybe I want other topographic layers)? Can I chose my own routing method?
I had the Polar V2…wasn’t impressed, the V3 doesn’t look much better.
wow.. nothing in this device is screaming buy me. really bad
This watch is too thick/ too fat. And too heavy. Is there some one who can sleep with this? The screen, with the curves, is ugly.
So for me, I stay with the Pacer Pro.
Those bezels 😳 ugly ...
Question. Does it have a curved display? Can’t you place a tempered glass? 😮
The last 2mm or so at the edge is curved, the rest is not.
Polar is still absolutely not appealing to me. The implementation of the flashlight via AMOLED screen is a really bad idea due to the tendency of AMOLED Displays to burn in - especially if you bump up the brightness over a prolonged time. Still no music functions which is unfortunate. I don't want to miss it on my Fenix 7 Pro.
It has music like the vantage v2 too. Too bad i never use it😂
Calm down, too much hands all over the place 😂
