Dragons Rising continues after Crystallized which left no cliffhangers and does it's own thing by expanding the universe, introducing new characters and making justice to old ones (Season 3 will be Zane and Jay's time to shine) and it's doing great so far so my guess is you're blinded by nostalgia or you're hating because it's "New".

He mostly keeps to himself, and he is simply observing the conflicts in Ninjago and the other Realms. He dose have his own Elemental power, but he usually doesn’t use his powers. However, his Elemental power associates with the Color of Deep Purple. His power is the power of Illusion which is useful for him to get around between the different realms (Before the Merge).
My favorite dragon is Fusion Dragon, Ultra Golden dragon, Firstbourne, Chompy, Zippy, Riyu, Jiro, Egalt, Empire dragon, The red dragon, Master Wu's dragon

The behind the scenes reason is that it made the ninja too powerful and that's difficult to write around, same for airjitzu. Elemental dragons aren't coming back because they want dragons to also be in the show and have connections with the characters like in the pilots and not just be elemental creations that the ninja summon at will.
