It’s part of the plot. It’s still a feminist show. It doesn’t have to fit your narrative of what a feminist show should look like to prove a point!
It's really disappointing to know that Emerald Fennell wrote this. I expected so much more from the writer of "Promising Young Woman." I hope her next project is more of that and less of this.

Well at least they have beautiful costumes and a beautiful set design. But from the moment the lyrics came in... Wish the talented cast (that is superb) weren't wasted in this, but used in a better broadway show.
Why is there a musette doubling the violins? It makes it sound thinner. This show comes on the heels of a well-received, recent revival of a much-loved R&H Cinderella that had a fresh, snappy book. Plus, this waltz is pensive and anxiety-ridden whereas '10 Minutes Ago' sounds optimistic and joyous. It just doesn't land. They have a great cast that has to work too hard.

The waltz is a bit pensive because it’s the theme to I Know You which is a very pensive song between two of the characters as they try to suss each other and manipulate each other. So I’m glad you picked that up. Big tribute to the composer, really.

Why tf do people hate this show so much that they’re even blatantly lying. It looks stunning. I don’t even have words to describe how beautiful the costumes are (each one is slightly different not just in color but also in design. And the fabrics & styles are magnificent!). The hair & set design is also gorgeous. Even the choreo isn’t some simplistic hastily put together dance where everyone does the same thing. And all of that is just in this one clip from one scene. Literally none of this looks “quickly tossed together”

They are rehearsed for 7 days with a 30 piece orchestra, and their sets and costumes are far superior to what "Bad Cinderella" put on stage. "Bad" cost $20 million and there was nothing remarkable or new about the design.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah fuck the critic ratings. For an audience, it's an entertaining af show (personal experience) and that's kinda what matters most for Broadway.
For the opening after intermission this was pretty boring. That dance sequence, although with talented dancers was much too long, with a repetitive peice of music and no story being told other then "look, a ball" it was two whole minutes and the exact same effect could have been achieved in 30 seconds. The dialogue the actors had to speak was also a bit cringe - the actors did what they could with it though! I totally get all the reviews that praise the cast but not the show. I did really like how the curtain came up and we could view everyone through the design, that was a fun effect and Sebastian is a cutey. I'd be all over him too!
You have so much recorded live and well edited. Something tells me that if Bad Cinderella closes before the end of the year, the fans can catch it at home with a video of the show. Maybe Stephen Ward might have done better on Broadway than Cinderella-- especially the reggae with Black Hearted Woman and the surf song Super Duper Hula Hooper.
Plus the cast is so talented, seems to kind & genuine (which is reason alone to support it in my book), and it just seems fun. We all could use more fun and joy and less needlessly tearing down a show many wonderful people put their all into (both performers and behind the scenes including hair, wardrobe, set design, lighting, etc)
