I have to point out that she nails that final note with her eyes closed - and still accompanying herself on the piano! A true tour de force from a fabulous artist!
OMG, I'm SOOOO glad this is on UA-cam. We may have lost Natalie Dessay to retirement but we now have Erin Morley! What fun we are going to have watching her now. BRAVA, Brava, brava!!!!
I think it's her game personality, intense desire to entertain and fabulous technique that makes this the most rewarding performance of the gala. I hope the Met can find more for her to do.
Fabulous. The highlight of the 4 hours-long event. When other artists out there are using the pandemic as opportunity to showcase their clowning chops to “connect to their audiences”, Erin Morley, for one, comes across as the very embodiment of Class. Not to mention that she played and sang fabulously.
They’re giving her roles befitting her abilities now. No more Dew Fairy, Echo or Masha. Her Sister Constance, Sophie and Olympia were stellar these past 3 seasons (especially Sophie-among the best I’ve ever heard, and that music is HARD to sing!). However the shockeroo was hearing what an incredible pianist she is, too. My goodness. Brava Erin! All best wishes.
Oh! How can I hear her performance as Sister Constance? Perfect performer and voice for that role -- and some of the most beautiful music in the opera in the scene with her and Blanche and then the Guillotine scene with the two of them -- must have shattered lots of hearts. Poulenc is stunningly beautiful from beginning to end - very difficult to really choose a favorite section.
Someday, I'd like to be like this. Erin seems like a fun, talented, smart, and hard-working singer! What a grand "live" play-and-sing performance! Absolutely admirable.
There should be a two thumbs up icon for this clip. Erin is in total control, every note in place and sounding (and looking!) beautiful. And, oodles of personality to boot. One of the best You Tubes I've ever seen.
Brava for me this was a huge discovery as I hadn’t had the chance to hear this amazing soprano, and like all the other comments have said what an uplifting and joyful moment this was , one among so many other great moments in the Met at home gala. Erin is indeed hugely talented and versatile, a great pianist, beautiful secure soprano voice, and an infectious personality, let’s hope the Met will mount a wonderful production for her in the future, and I would certainly love to see her live maybe a revival of La Fille du Regiment. Vive Erin !
How many can boast the ability to not only beautifully sing a demanding opera aria but accompany oneself on the keyboard with such advanced skill . Brava.
What I loved was that EW gave the bottled sunshine, Renee gave the reflective and soulful, others were memorable for different things; yet I suspect I personally shall remember those two and YNS's effortless conducting/piano playing. This coloratura even out-Joanied La Stupenda there...
In another life (or perhaps later in this one), Erin Morley would be the most qualified and in-demand vocal coach/répétiteur in history, solely for the fact that she is uniquely adept at operatic vocal technique, playing a piano like an orchestra, and doing both at the same time.
Absurdly talented. Her parts have been mostly minor to this point - that's about to end big time. And she's obviously just having a blast of a good time. Brava!
ALERT: She is cast in a major role in Saturday's Met Opera performance of Die Rosenkavalier, likely broadcast on your local NPR station that carries Met Live broadcasts.
She's so casually better than anyone else at her job it's honestly a sight to behold.
flicfan416 Wonderfully said!! She is magnificent
So beautifully put. Indeed.
Exactly. 🤯

Exactly, can't wait to see her in La Fille. Would be a worthy replacement for Dessay, indeed
This right here!

Giving us Eastman students hope that we will be THIS AMAZING someday!!
Going to Eastman student recitals was one of the best things about living in Rochester.
@Jason A Rober congrats !!! See you in the fall
Back 4 years later to say this is still SLAY
She makes this amazing performance look effortless. What an immense talent!!!
I’ve listened to this at least 10 times already because it is so uplifting and enjoyable!
Me too!
@@oscaraldoma4459 Over 100 times for me-REALLY. INCREDBILE.

Richard Seymour it was broadcast in HD in theaters, so it should be available. It was a great cast. Karita Mattila was the old prioress.
Erin Morley is such a star. BRAVA!!
I’m just looking forward to a La Fille for her after this lol
Someday, I'd like to be like this. Erin seems like a fun, talented, smart, and hard-working singer! What a grand "live" play-and-sing performance! Absolutely admirable.
So full of life, "joie de vivre" the perfect medicine we got from Erin Morley. Bravo!
OMG what a genius...she play and sing at the same time? How?? And both make so wonderfull
Absolutely delight! Making real music. She’s at ONE with her two instruments.
Such poise. How many others can accompany themselves? Smooth and pure satin voice. And lovely, with style, in addition.
There should be a two thumbs up icon for this clip. Erin is in total control, every note in place and sounding (and looking!) beautiful. And, oodles of personality to boot. One of the best You Tubes I've ever seen.
This was my favorite performance in the gala. Thank you!
Months later, I come back to this and it blows me away every time. Brava, Erin Morley!!

performance artistique , et son Français est parfait ! cela fait du bien ! merci !
The singing is fabulous, the joy contagious, and the piano playing impressive as well.
Brava! What a talent...reminiscent of Sutherland, the highest praise I can give any soprano.
I am blown away at the end. And you were singing sitting down too! Thank you for sharing with the rest of the world outside of New York.
Definitely one of the best versions I ever heard!

One of the highlights of the gala. Certainly the most impressive.

Absurdly talented. Her parts have been mostly minor to this point - that's about to end big time. And she's obviously just having a blast of a good time. Brava!
