There’s something fascinating in our own home galaxy. Even if we still cannot look at it from above and gaze at the full span of its arms, the sideway view offers a quite a showdown. To me the central part of the milky way is the most spectacular sight of the night sky. It’s something you can clearly see with the naked eye when you are away from city lights. It’s a sight that really brings your down to Earth and lets you wonder at how small we are, while comforting you in the thought that you are part of this Earth and the Universe. I could gaze for hours at the central bulge and just contemplate its compelling beauty from where it rises till where it sets. From a photographic and scientific point of view, this part of the milky way is so interesting to capture and study because if our solar system is located in its suburbs, the downtown district of our home galaxy harbors billions upon billions of stars. They are so concentrated that the total light coming from them can be seen millions of light years away and really creates this halo of light visible when you take a picture of it, much like a fire blazing. However a thick blanket of dark hydrogen clouds shroud and block the complete view. You can even see these fine dark lanes with the naked eye and they really participate in making the whole picture something from another world. Of all of them the Pipe and Dark Horse nebulae are descending down the core obscuring the upper part of the central bulge. In addition to this celestial show many emission nebulae- reliques of previously exploded stars, pepper the disc. Among them the bright and colorful Lagoon nebula, the pink and blue Trifid nebula, the red Cat Paw, War and Peace and Prawn nebulae around Scorpius. Moreover many star clouds (like the Sagittarius star cloud) and other remarquable star clusters also participate in strewing this already full frame. Finally the closest stars (like Antares) and near planets visible during the time of shoot (Mars, Saturn, Jupiter) also give a sense of just how ridiculously big the distance between Earth the the core is.
Being fascinated by the core since I started astrophotography where it was barely visible (Denmark), I started looking for the best places in the northern hemisphere where I could get a clear view. The first time I really saw it was on the beautiful island of Tenerife 4 years ago and I sincerely will remember that experience for the rest of my life. Gazing upon the center of our galaxy in its full glory is something everyone ought to try. That’s why I decided to dedicate the third opus of my astrolapse series ‘Galaxies’ exclusively to the core, assembling my best clips to date and bringing them to the public, mainly to raise awareness and to get our night sky a bit more attention. I was appalled by just how many people have never seen the milky way so maybe by showing the true beauty of the universe I could contribute in my own limited way to bringing the real dark skies to the hectic and light polluted urban jungle.
The goal once again was to use the best techniques in astrophotography and time-lapse to exploit each frame to its maximum without compromising the quality. From planning, to traveling to remote locations, to shooting with some of the best astro-gear, and eventually finding a novel post-processing workflow, I was able to get some astounding and never-seen-before sequences of the core. Traveling to very elevated and dark places allowed me to get the best signal to noise ratio as well as the best ‘contrast effect’ in the halo created by the stars in the bulge. The array of extremely sharp and bright lenses I utilized permitted to decrease shutter speed and get less motion blur while getting extremely clean shots with little aberration. The use of an astro-modified camera (Canon 6D), light pollution filters (Pure night, Nachtlicht) and a star tracker (Vixen Polarie) enabled me to capture the H-alpha emission nebula better and generally get better contrast and light altogether (See the two previous episodes for explanation). To create motion I also used the Syrp Genie I 3-axis system and the Vixen Polarie. I really wasn’t interested in just getting the usual wide-angle shots of the milky way and tried a lot of different set-ups to get a new view on the core. I am really proud to say that thanks to a lot of relentless work to find the best astrolapse workflow, these sequences are some of the most defined available on the market with some of the best quality and true-to-life colors.
    Cameras: Sony a7s, Canon 6D Baader moddedLenses: Sigma 14mm f1.8, Sigma 20mm f1.4, Sigma 50mm f1.4, Samyang 85mm f1.4, Samyang 135mm f2
Post-process: Adobe Lightroom, Timelapse+ plug-in for Lr, Ps CS6, TDLF, Sequence, FCPX
Locations: La Palma (Spain), Tenerife (Spain), Grimsel Pass (Switzerland), Emosson (Switzerland), Jura (France)

I said exactly the same thing to my wife watching this on my 4k tv. If it wasn't for youtube we would never get to see this kind of content. And if fx the BBC would(!) make a documentary like this, the mainstream media would be raving about it with positive reviews. As it is 7000 views. Insane.

Too long ago, on the clearest December night imaginable, I got to spend the better part of an hour looking at space from about 13,000 feet up on the Big Island of Hawaii. It was a civilian observatory and hardly anyone was there, perhaps owing to how close it was to Christmas. To see the rings of Saturn as well as, yes, our own beautiful Milky Way, is one of my best memories in this life thus far. Thank you for not only this marvelous film, but for the lyrical quality of your words in the description. All blessings to you and, as ever.. Pax et lux.🙋🔭🌌👁️

    89 people thought it meant
    “dis-I-like”
Just a little confusion no big deal we realize there’s no actual human that could dislike somethings so breathtaking.
I would actually love to hear someone give an explanation as to why Someone might not like this. Maybe they wouldn’t like it because it scares them? Do they think of aliens?
Maybe they dislike the video because they don’t like the actual subscriber? I just sometimes like to try to figure out why people dislike videos like this one this is just an example of many many videos out there that get very few dislikes but there still is some and I just wonder what the heck these people are thinking. Or are there just people that miserable out there that like to troll Pages and just be negative and miserable. I don’t know this all just came across my mind just now lol

Thank you Adrien Maduit for your exquisite contributions to the creations of mankind. You probably do this just as a passion and don't make any money off of it. Just know that people all around the world look at your art and you give us 6 minutes of pure delight.
I'm realy into physics, quantum mechanics, et cetera, but to see the universe like this, to see our earth tumbling in space, rotating upside down against a fixed galaxy core (4:32), brilliant! It allmost amazes me why we as modern humans (who normally never get to witness this) seem to have such a "deep instinct" built into our genome to recognize this as profoundly beautifull. Thousands of years of stargazing by our ancestors in much darker times? Or are the quantum vibrations that lie at our core recognizing home? Mind you, I did watch this stoned :)

I feel leaving this to "a creator did it" is such a small minded way of thinking. Man made god, not the other way around. It's ignorant to think that some magical being made everything, its just another way for humans to try and make themselves the center of the universe when we're not. To say God did it, is just.a fsncy way of saying I don't understand it so there for a deity did it. That's small minded and ignorant, not to mention a very boxed in way of.thinking and in no way expands the mind.

@@thegreatallanu Sorry, but I have a problem with our "amazing" intelligence... When you look at the state of our world you have certain doubts about the human intelligence... Destroing our ecosystems for the sake of "making" money that at last it's not covered with real value but has only a fake value! Another point is that we don't even know what we are talking about when we speak about gravity or dark matter... That is also a kind of fairy tale story presuming there was a Big Bang... But sorry, why is it so that the universe is speeding up??? 🤔 Where does this extra energy comes from? Questions, questions but no answers!

In the life of this Universe, I am a piece of a puzzle that will re-arrange itself more times than every life in this universe can count. I am an essential part of this universe and possibly, may become a part of the next one, and the one after that and so on. To know that in some small way, part of me will go on forever, mixing with other parts of this universe, splitting apart again and reforming with something else over and over again until this universe ceases to be, and part of me becomes a part of the next universe. And so, I have come to know that I am a child of this universe, but may become a child of many others. And I know that you too, will take the same journey as me. We are all children on this universe and possibly those after it.

This video has had digital enhancements with added color light objects that are not actually there. I generally love these time-lapse videos of the heavens. But, when the film makers find the need to enhance the images to show things that are not there or are not nearly as colorful as in reality, that really turn me off. The stars in the heavens are beautiful enough on their own without screwing around with the video images. Yes, it's beautiful. But not reality.

Adrien, hey great work as ALWAYS!! You rock. One question for you. Notice you are using a Vixen star tracker. Given the cost of base unit and it's low payload, I assume you also got the heavy loading kit? If so, what's your thoughts on that versus say the Ioptron sky guider? I think by the time you buy all the additional parts needed to bump it's payload up that the grand total cost exceed $1000 US dollars?? I am in process of trying to decide which tracker to go with (I actually currently haveboth but I am within return period). But I can't compare them equally as I don't have theVixen Heavy loading kit u fortunately
