    as a software QA manager - a performance test of a scale of connections is not a bad test - its how the results are extrapolated. if your up to or very close to server capacity at 200k then you can easily say that you do not have bandwidth. My guess is the cost was a factor, they didn't want to pay for the commissioning of many server and CPU just for launch, as they know traffic would stabilise after the fact.
    But, when you have some customers paying $200 for a product, that really shouldn't be a limiting factor, as a customer you don't care, you want to access you purchase straight away.
    In industry. this is more common that you think

      That's so you'll be disatisfied with 2020 and "upgrade" to 2024. They don't want you continuing to use 2020. 1.5 TB is not unreasonable in this day and age. I've got 8 TB in SSD's right now, my old setup with actual old school hard drives had 66TB of storage space. Agreed, that's not typical, but 8 to 12 TB certainly is.

    First of all, thank you for taking the time to collect and inform us of all the latest information, I have followed your channel for a few years now and trust your judgment. However, speaking for myself, I have got the simulator setup just the way I want it with the display and control settings that I need for an experience that is an improvement from FS2020, especially in hard-hitting areas like London, Tokyo, New York, etc. I am not having any issues regarding streaming data at the moment. If I start running into issues regarding the performance of FS2024 in the future, I will be re-installing the whole sim after a thorough uninstall.

    I see from previous comments you have been adequately reprimanded for the title, enough said on that.
    Content is very helpful, thank for the updates and explanations. I don’t think I saw a reply from you on the important question from several folks on lost settings, control bindings, logged hours, etc. as a result of reinstalling 2024. Even so, the learning curve re bindings was the hard part for me, recreating the wheel would be much faster now. I understand the large size of the sim issue, but perhaps local storage of frequently used aircraft as well as scenery (I.e. a large cache) would go a long way in reducing load times. Thanks again for your contributions to the community.

    Please stop click baiting and advise people to re-install their game.
    TBH clicking that "repair" button would solve 95% of the issues...
    Reinstalling should almost never be necessary, especially since the MSFS2024 is heavily cloud based. If your MSFS2024 runs smoothly, don't fking touch it. If your MSFS2024 has issues, and you are not the only one who has the issue, just wait for the patch.

    I have predicted this failure of the new version was an attempt to make more money from the million users they have found. I did'nt purchaised it and decided to wait and see ... and I was right. I am 67 years old and after working 40 years I know Microsoft quite well. I will remain with 2020 quite a lot of time and only when (and if) all problem will be solved I will purchaise it. In the meantime real computer configuration needed will be much more clear and surely don't spend 2000 usd for a GPU as a RTX4090 only to play a crapped game called MSFS2024.

    • @dont155
      @dont155 6 днів тому +1

      You are actually missing out. The new simulator is brilliant and has so much more potential. Don't be cynically swayed by all of the doom and gloom from dramatic UA-cam influencers. I too know Microsoft very well as I have been flight simming on a Microsoft product since 1998. Yes, they are crappy at game launches, always have been. BUT - for all of the problems that showed up in the first few days of THIS launch, this is, by far, - the FASTEST - I've seen them resolved. Very FEW people as a percentage of the community are still having problems. My sim is working wonderfully now aside from the occasional hang up at game launch. About 1 out of 10 times launching it will hang. I expect that will even go away in the next week or so. Yes the sim scenery and smoothness are not just playable, but in fact are GREAT. But it IS your time and money to invest, if you're comfortable with FS2020, that too is now a GREAT sim.

    I'd rather have it be where we could CHOOSE which aircraft (up to 4) we would like to have. For instance, in my case, I only purchased the Standard package and I'm certainly not going to be using all those aircrafts. Yet, I'd like to get 1 or 2 aircrafts from the premium WITHOUT spending another $30 or $40 or even more) and having 10 or 15 aircrafts that I am NOT interested in.
    Again that is my thought.
    Going with your mentioning why not full download. One thing I didn't hear you mention but I did read is, that they are thinking of allowing us to download specific areas that we fly or utilize the most. So, that can be a big help.

    10:30 I agree with you that this should be an option, but putting all the files locally raises the concern about updates and patches. They can currently do a lot of corrections in-house that then are included in the normal streams. I witnessed this after 1.1.10.0 was released and Career Mode was borked. They disabled Career Mode on their end, made a fix, and then Career Mode was working again without us having to download another patch. If people had the game installed locally, a separate service would have to be set up to offer those updates as a download.

    The reinstall (Steam) went quick but didn't see a change in the nasty looking trees here and there and some of the buildings. Performance is the same. VR Pimax Crystal / 4090 / 64gb RAM, 78003dx, 1gig FIOS. Anyway, this was mentioned as a just in case something got messed up on the initial install. So reinstalling was quick and easy and worth it to me if only for the peace of mind the install didn't get borked somewhere from the day 1 "experience".

  • @mrdude2702
    @mrdude2702 4 дні тому

    You are seeing only 2.5 minute load times? Seriously? I'm still seeing 22 minutes, even after multiple full re installs. That's even longer than my FS20 took with a 1.5Tb community folder attached. I too have 1.2Gb/s internet connection, which I have tested to see if it is working correctly - it is. *** UPDATE *** What ever was causing the extremely long startup times has been resolved with the latest patch which was released 12/10/24. My startup time is now an astonishing 1:35 (yep, under two minutes).
    Also, anything I'm about to say has anything to do with YOU and your comments. I understand you are just the messenger.
    But, B S to MS and Asobo on about 90% of the comments related to "why". First, the idea that the default planes are encrypted to protect the career mode - B S. Most, if not all, of those planes are non-Asobo built. They paid a license to use them and I'm positive the license was not with full "do what you want" approval. They are probably tracking how many times each plane is used so they can pay the creator accordingly each quarter, and they also want to control that any "issues" are not add-on or mod created. Also, notice in Market place it already says if you want additional skins they would like for you to pay $$. How can they enforce that request if we can just add a few files to our PC copies? The best way to protect that investment is to encrypt the files so they can not be changed or shared.
    Second, the idea that the system needs to be streamed because it is way too big to download onto your hard drive, major B S again. Yes, the entire global data is huge. But they very easily could break the world into sectors. You opt-in to download a sector. If you are flying a CE-172 in Chicago, there is no reason to have Tokyo also loading. As for the huge size, MS could offer to sell drives with that data that you could then transfer to your PC. But, they are not likely to want to do that because MS is under the impression that everyone in the world wants to have their products for FREE. They tried to do the same streaming concept with their Office products (talking about Office365 subscriptions as an example) but received a huge push-back. They could have made it a simple option to save the cache to your drive at a location that you chose in your settings. If you do not have a cache of that location, it will stream and save simultaneously, if you chose that option. The other part of the stream requirement is due to the Xbox compatibility requirement from MS. They need to understand that a PC version and a separate Xbox version is the better method of keeping the system optimized .
    Third, regarding the 200,000 test connections. When I worked in Enterprise IT, I ran into this issue with MS constantly. They way over state the capabilities of their technology, and then they push for others to assume that all stats are 100% continual operation, when they are actually peak performance only. They thought that they could push the data out faster than we could request it. Their "millions of FS20 users" were not connected simultaneously, and they failed to recognize how many people were going to be sitting at their screens on day1. I'm sure the reason the market place and the multi play systems were taken off-line were so they could use those networks to boost the primary systems until the surge subsided. Here's some news to MS/Asobo, if your product is worth anything, then don't assume that there will only be a surge, especially if the product must be streamed. If anything, the first week will be slower than the coming weeks as popularity spreads about the product.
    I'll stop there, for now. I have the same comments about most of the stuff you regurgitated from their press releases, but you get the point. I enjoy your channel and encourage you to keep up the great content. And again, my comments are in no way a shot at you but are directed at ASOBO and MS. My message to them is don't fill us with a bunch of sales crap when you know the issue is all about the way MS likes to protect their content and force uses to spend more $$ if they want to continue using their products. Some day MS will learn that treating their loyal customers this way will come back to bite them in the future.

    Something tells me that the core system of MSFS2024 won't work on a stand-alone situation as the amount of processing power needed to run all the "modules" would make even a high end rig come to a halt. The advantage of a centric application is the ability to spread out the modules to make up the app across multiple processing cores. The thin client end only needs to process the UI interface part of the app. There is no way a local average gamer rig is going to be able to deliver the goodness that 2024 gives us now on a single physical core. People wanted multiple cores to be used instead of a single core.... well, they got their request.... in a very BIG way ;).

Also make sure you are on Windows 11, yes I know, MSFS2020 did not play nice with Windows 11 but all of those issues are fixed. Disable your Anti-Virus before doing all of this and then go to your Windows Store (XBOX app) and install the product. You probably should reboot your modem/router/firewall as well BEFORE re-installing (re-downloading) --- This should only be done by qualified computer technicians - or those that stayed at a Holiday Inn Express the night before the attempt. The Cessna CJ4 engines are also set at full power no matter of the throttle levellers positions. The King Air 350, and the Cessna 208 Caravan have no reverse throttle, but thje TBM 930 reverse throttle works perfect. Big problem with what you said about the bing update cycles. I know of parts of msfs 2020 and now still with 2024 that are actually within a major metropolitan area, where scenery is outdated by 10 or 11 years. An entire major highway missing in one case. Bing has this highway if you zoom in to within 5000 or 10000ft or closer. But if you zoom out, it changes to the outdated image that msfs has. So this apparent 3 year update cycle doesn’t mean jack shit to me. This is one area where msfs in general has been extremely disappointing since 2020. Don’t get me wrong. I love the sim. But their promises of updating scenery based on bing map data has been very hallow.
