I think God loves organ music and traditional hymns like this as much as modern gospel.
He looks on our hearts as we sing.
He doesn’t want lip service or bickering.
Any hymn that gives glory to Him is received.

Ian Rowlandian I hate to disagree but Charles Wesley one of the founders of Methodism is by far the most prolific hymn writer. Even Isaac Watts, a hymn writer himself, agreed that Charles Wesley was the best. So sorry but Methodist hymns win after all "Methodism was born in song!"

So sad to read these comments that this magnificent organ is no longer used. Why can't contemporary and traditional co-exist in our churches? Why must it be one or the other? All it takes is some imagination and leadership.

So true. Little Diane Bish and Sam Metzger were awesome on this organ, as was the choir. And I know a lot of churches that have both a contemporary and traditional worship services. I used to attend both. But it's sad that the "folks" now in this church completely ruined it. So sad.

I am from a contemporary church and since we are in a traditional church I have started to introduce the pipe organ into special occasions and the congregation love it and cheer when a hymn or carol is finished .... great !!

Great job, though she should have held the last "highest" much, much longer. I think she probably got nervous in anticipation of the high note she was going to "master" at the end. And Sam's playing is effortless and awesome, as always. Thank you for sharing!

He draws a 32' on the last chord, and at the beginning he uses the Antiphonal trumpet, (I believe the 8’ Trompette de Fete). And his registration varies verse to verse. If you like more dramatic registration see "O Come O Come Emmanuel."

The German lyrics are anonymous, arising from folk tradition. Their first appearance was in Pörtner’s KATHOLISCHES GESANGBUCH (Würzburg, 1828) as “Beim frühen Morgenlicht” (in early morning light). The English translation was by Edward Caswall in Formby’s CATHOLIC HYMNS (London, 1854). Joseph Barnby’s optimistic tune LAUDES DOMINI (Latin for “praise the Lord”) first appeared in HYMNS ANCIENT AND MODERN (London, 1868) as Item 314. Also known as “May Jesus Christ Be Praised!” this graceful hymn has persisted over time and cultural boundaries.

    1. When morning gilds the sky,
    our hearts awaking cry:
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
in all our work and prayer
    we ask his loving care:
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    2. To God, the Word on high,
    the hosts of angels cry:
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    Let mortals too upraise
their voice in hymns of praise:
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    3. Let earth's wide circle round
    in joyful notes resound:
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
Let air and sea and sky
    from depth to height reply:
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    4. Be this, when day is past,
of all our thoughts the last:
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    The night becomes as day
when from the heart we say:
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    5. Then let us join to sing
    to Christ, our loving King:
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    Be this the eternal song
    through all the ages long:

I will add my voice and opinion here from Australia. When there is congregational singing, the organ needs to LEAD not follow (when accomanying a soloist, then you follow and not lead). Also, when leading such a grand and glorious hymn, you need to use a variety of stops and with such a large instrument, why not use the reeds and 32' pedal stop/s? Well performed music giving God the glory!

    When morning gilds the skies,
    My heart awaking cries:
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    Alike at work and prayer
    To Jesus I repair:
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    To Thee, my God above,
    I cry with glowing love,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    The fairest graces spring
    In hearts that ever sing,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    Does sadness fill my mind?
    A solace here I find,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    Or fades my earthly bliss?
    My comfort still is this,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    When evil thoughts molest,
With this I shield my breast,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    The powers of darkness fear,
When this sweet chant they hear,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    When sleep her balm denies,
    My silent spirit sighs,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    The night becomes as day,
When from the heart we say,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
Be this, while life is mine,
    My canticle divine,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    Be this th’ eternal song
    Through all the ages long,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!

Instead of,' for we are getting what our sins deserve, remember me when you come into Your Kingdom' it's 'save yourself and us'.This voluminous masterpiece brings Hope Joy and Fills the Soul with Eternity. Let Jesus Christ be Praised..forever.

I like some traditional and some modern hymns, but as a young christian found it quite difficult to lift my heart to the Lord, as half our small congregation were tone deaf and had their own sense of timing. We sang from the old grace hymns book and I didn't always understand the old English wording so didn't know what I was singing about half the time. Nower days I do think the old classics.. generaly speaking, have more deapth to them and I love this hymn.

Exactly! Whether it's contemporary or traditional, we're still praising God. I believe this because in the same way that people think about electric guitars and drums in church today is exactly what people thought about the organ back then!
If you read about the history of the organ, it existed for 1000 years before it was commonly established in churches. The organ was first used for entertainment at theatres and festivals and only owned by the wealthy. Back then, churches didn't use instruments and they thought the organ too loud and too worldly.
