Profesor Ludwik Roch Komczyński (1909-1970), Rektor Akademii Medycznej w Białymstoku w latach 1962-1970.
Urodzony w Jaskółkach, ukończył studia w 1936 na Wydziale Lekarskim Uniwersytetu Poznańskiego. . W 1952 r. oddelegowany do utworzenia Katedry i Zakładu Anatomii Patologicznej w niedawno powstałej Akademii Medycznej w Białymstoku. Rok później otrzymał nominacje na pierwszego kierownika Katedry i Zakładu Anatomii Patologicznej oraz na Dziekana Wydziału Lekarskiego. Tytuł docenta otrzymał w 1954, a profesora w 1960. Wielokrotnie chwalony za ponadprzeciętne umiejętności organizacyjne, w 1962 wybrany został do piastowana funkcji Rektora Akademii Medycznej w Białymstoku. Rektorem był przez trzy kadencje w latach 1962-1970. Zainteresowania badawcze Komczyńskiego dotyczyły m.in. odczynowości ustroju na tworzywa sztuczne czy zaburzeń układu krążenia. Był też współzałożycielem Towarzystwa Anatomopatologów, członkiem European Society of Patology, członkiem PAN oraz wielu innych towarzystw naukowych związanych nie tylko z medycyną, ale również kulturą i sportem (Prezes Akademickiego Związku Sportowego w latach 1953-1964). W trakcie swojej pracy uhonorowany m. in. Krzyżem Komandorskim Orderu Odrodzenia Polski, Złotym Krzyżem Zasługi, złotą odznaką AZS. Jako Rektor Akademii Medycznej w Białymstoku aktywnie pracował na rzecz rozwoju uczelni. Za jego kadencji powołano Oddział Stomatologiczny na Wydziale Lekarskim, powstał Instytut Chirurgii, Instytut Chorób Wewnętrznych oraz Instytut Chorób Nerwowych i Narządów Zmysłów. Za kadencji prof. Komczyńskiego powstało Studium Języków Obcych oraz zainicjowano budowę Collegium Pathologicum. W tym czasie Akademia Medyczna w Białymstoku była również gospodarzem licznych zjazdów towarzystw naukowych, na które przybywali goście zarówno z kraju jak i z zagranicy. Trzecią kadencję na urzędzie rektora Akademii Medycznej w Białymstoku przerwała śmierć prof. Komczyńskiego 30 września 1970 roku.

Professor Ludwik Roch Komczyński (1909-1970), Rector of the Medical Academy of Bialystok from 1962 to 1970. He graduated in 1936 from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Poznań. During his studies, he was employed at the UP Department of Pathological Anatomy under the direction of Professor Ludwik Skubiszewski, where he continued to work after receiving his diploma. In 1938, he accepted a position as a senior assistant in the Internal Medicine Department of the Public City Hospital in Toruń. At the beginning of World War II, he returned to Poznań, but due to the deportation of Polish scientists, he decided to leave again. This time he decided to go to Kraków, but he had to interrupt his journey in Miechów due to damage to the tracks. There he remained until the end of the war working at the local hospital. He was also a member of the Home Army, participated in clandestine teaching and was head of the Polish Red Cross outpatient clinic in Miechów. After the war, he returned to Poznań where he defended his doctoral thesis. In 1952, he was delegated to establish the Department of Pathological Anatomy at the recently founded Medical Academy in Białystok. A year later, he also received appointments as the first head of the Department of Pathological Anatomy and as dean of the Faculty of Medicine. He received the title of associate professor in 1954 and professor in 1960. Repeatedly praised for his above-average organizational skills, in 1962 he was elected to hold the post of rector of the Medical Academy in Białystok. He served as rector for three terms from 1962 to 1970. Prof. Ludwik Komczyński's research interests included the body's reaction to plastics and cardiovascular disorders. He was also a co-founder of the Society of Anatomopathologists, a member of the European Society of Pathology, a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and many other scientific societies related not only to medicine, but also to culture and sports (President of the Academic Sports Association in 1953-1964). As rector of the Medical University of Bialystok, he actively worked for the development of the university. During his tenure, the Department of Dentistry at the Faculty of Medicine was established, the Institute of Surgery, the Institute of Internal Medicine and the Institute of Nervous Diseases and Sensory Organs, were founded and the construction of the Pathologicum College was initiated.
