ChenJun to the Moon!

ChenJun to the Moon written by David Fiuczynski (official release 2024), dedicated to the amazing #erhu ("Chinese violin") player Chen Jun. When the also amazing Yazhi Guo (one of the leading wind instrumentalists in China) invited Chen Jun to jam with #chinesemicrojam I thought about a melody I had sitting around that wasn't a finished composition yet. When Chen Jun played the melody literally exploded from his instrument like a rocket!! I immediately thought this guy is flying to the moon!! The piece starts with " #microtonal checks and preparations" for this musical voyage and blast off is at 0:46! ;-) Microtonal descent into the lunar atmosphere at 1:16, "improvisational counter thrust engaged" at 1:54 for landing at 2:17, slow microtonal footsteps at 2:27 exploring musical lunar landscapes, return to the spaceship at 4:15, gradual rocket ignition around 4:32 and final blast off to return to earth at 4:58 - ha! This was fun!
