Excellent review. I appreciate your honesty and perspective. Many semiautomatic carriers have never used a revolver. My stepfather loved his original King Cobra and Python.
I had the chance to fire a friends a decade ago and what I was just flat out amazed by was the trigger. It was every bit as silky as the trigger on my Dan Wesson .44, though on single action it was a bit heavier pull but not by much. Given the chance, just like you, I would indeed add one. Unlike you though, I already love revolvers! Lol! Thanks for a great video on a great weapon.
I had a King Cobra back in the 80's/90's . Loved it . From picking it up it just fit-me perfectly. My performance just improved straight away . It was the 8" barrel version, At the tieme the Python was talked about as the 'Rolls Royce' of .357's, and even revolvers in general. Not for me. The King Cobra outperformed it , and all comers , every time. It was also a damn sight cheaper when I bought it . Loved it . It decided me on getting the Anaconda when it came out in .44 mag , but changes in the law denied me that before I gathered the cash for one.
I had one in the late 80s. Great firearm….I’m still kicking myself for trading it when revolvers started going out of vogue in the 90s for semiautomatics
I have a Trooper Mk V , which they only made two years, 1984, 1985, then for 1986 Colt put a non ribbed barrel; my Mark V has a ribbed barrel like the Python, and a swoop angle to the front of the barrel, instead of flat front of barrel, Colt added a full underlug, instead of a 3/4 length underlug, and called it the King Cobra. The two guns are the same basic revolver, with a different barrel treatment. I love my old Trooper MK V and am looking to add an older King Cobra if I ever can find one. They are great revolvers that I enjoy shooting every bit as much as I did my old Python, which I should never have sold.
I picked up a six inch version a few years ago. A nice bull strong revolver . I had suggested that they put a vent rib on it to capitalize on the Python look. They actually had a limited run of royal blue calked the BOA . At the end of the run of King Cobras, they had frames but ran out of barrels, and put some out with Python barrels and King Cobra markings.
Original Pachmayr grips are too big for most. Replace them and replace the springs with Wolff springs and the KC becomes a far superior and more reliable revolver than the Python of the period - and in my opinion better than the Smith 686 and Ruger GP100. Colt perceived they had to down-engineer the much simpler KC to not compete with their own flagship Python and had heavier springs than needed installed. The KC is a greatly under-appreciated.357; very strong, fantastic trigger when properly sprung, and delivering well above normal accuracy.
There's 4 different versions of the new King Cobra revolvers. You have a 3 inch carry model, 2 inch DAO model, 2 inch DA/SA model, and a 4 inch target model. The 4 inch Target model, is the only one that's more like the original ones. It even has wood medallion grips.
@@GUNS-GDC That's like with the new python They look the same till you do a side by side and a break down. Which the new one is disappointing. Honestly I'd rather have a trooper frame with a python style barrel or a king cobra style barrel. Make em cheap and still have that same vintage look without all the issues. Which to me the cobra by the way was a colt answer to the s&w 686 and the should of done it years ago when the python and trooper (19ish 66ish s&w look) were in main production
I have a bright polished 1997 4” and it is exactly as you describe. Smooth and high quality.

I have an electrodes nickel finish Colt TROOPER III from the late 1970s. A great gun and still going strong. Really feel the love in it too.
😍Sweet!! 😍

Glad you enjoyed it. These are beautiful guns.

Great stuff. Thanks for sharing Dusty.

I just purchased a 1996 King Cobra 6” barrel from a local pawn shop. $1475.00 and worth every penny. Now to find the ammo…

I rather have a colt king cobra made from 1986 to 1994 over the new ones that came out in 2019 I’m not a fan of the new ones

I remember 1st seeing this in the hands of Fred The Hammer Williamson in some damn thing he did in the 80s or 90s. Super fine
Yes Sir!
Detailed. Nice work. Thanks

Great comment. Thanks for sharing William.
Nice revolvers, and nice guns in general, change a lot of minds.
Yes Sir.
The new king cobra has nothing in common with the older version except the name. The new version is an updated Magnum Carry
Thanks for the comment Michael. The old ones are real beauties.

Seth is a big dude - he makes this King Cobra look like a little .22 pistol in his paws.
He's manly.
Beautiful gun. I want one!
Plenty of them on our site.
Should of done a good side by side comparison of the new and old to actually see the differences
Not a bad idea. We'll keep it in mind. Thanks for the comment Jimmie.

I love all the colts, Such fun to shoot and just beautiful
We love them too. Glad you enjoyed the video.
except for the Colt Python 2020 on its first launch
Ya the mystique is it has great triggers so if a snake was around you could shoot him first before it bites you!
Love those snake guns
They are as sweet as honey.
I was 16 yrs old then they were $400 new
