I loved this story! Mostly because there was a happy ending! But I absolutely LOVE your narration, research, knowledge, details, & the WHOLE shebang! Thank you for your videos!
I almost had an anxiety attack listing to it and I don't usually get like that. It's like a movie that's set around water, I'll draw my knees to my chin before I realize what I'm doing. 🙄😁🤣
I love this channel . The beginning of the episode , the theme music, the opening of the waterfall and car headlights , I love it all. I discovered somewhere sinister yesterday and haven't stopped listening lol I fell asleep to it , brushed my teeth to it and now waiting for my Uber listening to it . I love hearing stories from the 1950's and 60's . Such well researched and incredibly told . Thanks bud
This was my hometown and I remember when this happened. Every mother was terrified and parents spoke in hushed tones. Horrifying ordeal and miraculous outcome.
This was the best one yet I really hope at some point you start doing these more I couldn’t stop listening I’m a truck driver so I love listening to these while I’m driving
I read Barbara's book about her ordeal, "83 Hours Til Dawn" when I was in grade school. It frightened the hell out of me, as I have always been claustrophobic. That photo of her with the sign has always haunted me as well.
You should read the book "The Voyeur's Motel" it's really interesting and shocking in a very different way. But... It still deals with a very real motel of horrors.
I have started listening to these again. Had forgotten how good they were. Why have you stopped doing them? UIM sure I’m not the only one that misses them.
This story really hits close to home--literally. Im in the Dacula district not even 40 minutes from where this all happened, yet had never heard about this story til this video. Thank you!!
Dahlonega GA here. I remember when this happened. I was just a kid at the time, but it was all over the news (AJC, Channels 2, 5, and 11). Freaky story!
How in the name of all things good in the world does a kidnapper who buries someone alive get only TEN YEARS in prison with a LIFE sentence?????? Needless to say, the second he was free, he went on a million crime sprees.
As messed up as it is their is a reason. They have to leave some incentive to leave the victim alive. If the sentences are the same they will figure they might as well kill the victim bc it's the most likely way to get caught if they are gonna get life anyway these psychopaths won't leave witnesses
Look, he was a very good boy in prison and promised he'd never be bad ever again. Prison's a scary place and he definitely learned his lesson. Cuz that's how prison works, right?
@@LaffeeTaffeeGG Sadly the American prison system usually worsens the situation. The prison system isnt incentivized to keep people out, or rehabilitate criminals. On top of that, the techicalities and semantics of law almost always prevent the court system from charging someone beyond the legal boundaries. If so it becomes a slippery slope. Just glad that the story had an ending where Barbera survived, and the perp got caught.
And a couple things you didn't mention about Krist was that after he got out of prison (and before becoming a drug smuggler), he actually managed to get himself a pardon, studied medicine in Grenada and Dominica, and went on to become a doctor in Indiana. His license got suspended a couple years later because he didn't disclose a disciplinary action against him. He's still alive and lives in Pelican, Alaska...Population 88
Indiana gave him a probationary license. Which required him to appear before the medical board every six months. No telling what he would have done if the state hadn't kept a close eye on him.
THANK YOU! I saw the TV movie about this when I was a kid in 1972, but I never could remember the name of it ("The Longest Night"). I've remembered it all my life, but have never seen it since that first time when it came out. It absolutely creeped the 9 year old me out! Now I'm going to have to go try and find it.
I get at least 3 or 4 notifications a week, between This is Monsters and Somewhere Sinister!! I don't know how you do it all. Sure am happy you can! Thanks for all you do!
Did not know about this one but as soon as I heard your voice I subscribed as I love Monsters and your awesome hard work so ty and everyone's that's involved
I grew up in north Georgia and I remember this story well. It was all over the Atlanta newspapers and TV stations. I was 9 years old at the time. It creeped me out!
This reminds me of that kidnaping where the perps ended up doing the same thing, but put a pipe the width of a McDonald's straw into the box for air -- I guess so he couldn't be heard shouting? Yeah, he was dead within a few hours. So glad this guy had a job building these boxes with proper ventilation. Also, screw the front desk clerk who "didn't want to get involved" and untie that poor woman.
Yo!!!! Happy ending all around!!! I was on the edge of my seat though!! Small confined spaces freak me out. I get anywhere close to a small enclosed space and I start losing my breath. I even learned being strapped down and unable to move on my own, has the same affect. (Arms were stretched out and strapped at the wrist when I had my C-section, something they don’t tell you about before hand) and my greatest fear is drowning. Not just any way of drowning, open water doesn’t scare me. It’s the fear of being stuck inside of something filled with water and slowly filling up or running out of air before finding the way out. So basically drowning in small enclosed spaces.
My nightmare way to die would be to slide head first down a pipe slightly larger than my body which is on a 45 degree angle with water at the bottom. Completely irrational I know but it's always been that. And when I was young I would frequently jump on the backs of alligators in the swamp at night to wrestle with them and see their reaction. Had a gun to my head twice. I even actually drowned 3 separate times where I had to be resuscitated. But that irrational ass pipe in the ground seriously haunts my dreams on a regular basis. I hope it isn't some kind of foreshadowing.
@@Dakestheman hahahaha I can relate. The story about John Jones and the Nutty Putty cave, gave me so much anxiety that it made my body hurt and my I felt like I couldn’t get a deep breath, just listening to it. Listening to those kinds of stories take me a while to get through because I have to stop when the anxiety gets bad and get my shit together before I can carry on. I know I will never purposely put myself in a situation like that but now it’s my stupid kids I worry about. They haven’t lived long enough to be aware of just how dangerous everything can be and they still have that “ carpe diem “ oh wait, my bad, I believe they say “yolo”.
@@Dakestheman also, that’s a pretty interesting life you are living. I myself have never considered even once what kind of thoughts or reactions a crocodile might have about anything. Certainly not what it would think if I just jumped on its back and challenged it to a wrestling match. Ps. Stop drowning.
@@Seekingheros Yeah that nutty putty cave incident messed with me bad the first time I heard it. An ex tried to get me to watch a movie about by saying it was something else... That's not the whole reason she's an ex but it didn't help. And the gators... I just liked to show people how crazy it was that an 8 to 10 ft long literal killing machine freaks out when a little 5'9" guy jumps on it and slaps it in the face... I can't sit in the back of a two-door, have to be on an aisle seat in an airplane or a theater. I would have tried to gouge their eyes out, but I'm 6'1" and 220 lbs, so I feel for Barbara. ( Years of therapy & we think my condition is because my Dad would wrestle with me when I was a young boy & he held me down way after I couldn't take it anymore. @@mrd3016 you and I are so much alike. I don't do elevators, the back seat of a 2 door car, small rooms and bathrooms with the doors closed or anything similar.
