I just got Monetized at 41yo! It took me a good year and a half, but it was worth it! One advice I can give is don't stop uploading because you never know which video will take off! Example: one of my videos got a lot of views 7 months later after uploading it just because The Internet Historian mentioned it on his channel for about 15 secs!
Congrats on getting monetized-that’s a huge achievement! I appreciate you sharing your journey and that valuable tip about consistency. You’re absolutely right; you never know which video might take off! What’s been the most surprising part of your UA-cam journey so far? And what’s next on your content creation roadmap? Keep up the fantastic work-you’re inspiring others on this journey too!
@@Steven-Thompson One thing that surprised me was that I was usually wrong on which Video was going to gain a lot of Views and even then I would try to mimic the previous Videos with big views and sometimes not get anywhere! On that note! I continue to do research daily to get Inspiration from other channels! Algorithm channels help me upload with new techniques and confidence! And other channels inspire other topics for me to talk about or to cover in my own way! Just found your Channel recently and Digged your advice!
I’m 46 and got monetized in 3 weeks last November. Now( 9 months later) I have almost 6k subs and I’m earning about $1k per month on average. I currently have a faceless channel, but plan to go on camera soon. Every video, I make a goal of learning something new with editing and to get one more view than last time. I’ve had four videos hit over 100k views. The key is to make your channel about something you enjoy and being yourself. I also encourage using the community tab strategically in between videos to keep up engagement, and know that titles and thumbnails are super important. The videos I have had blow up have all been based on the title and thumbnail. And that’s evident in the video comments.
Wow, that’s incredible progress-congrats on getting monetized so quickly and building such an engaged community! Your strategy of learning something new with each video and focusing on titles and thumbnails is clearly paying off. It’s inspiring to see how you’re planning to take your channel to the next level by going on camera soon. What’s the next big milestone you’re aiming for? I’m excited to see where your journey takes you!
@@Steven-Thompson thanks! next goal is 10k subs. Big goal is going full time on UA-cam and expanding my number of income streams with sponsors, affiliate marketing, and merch. (By the end of 2025)

So I do the same thing I actually use my microphone to write this comment and what I’m doing right now is evacuating the state of Florida and binge watching your UA-cam channel. I love hearing your voice. It’s so relaxing. I bet you could even do some book work keep the videos coming sorry I’m super tired. I’ve been driving for like 10 hours. Trying to get out of the state
Hey you stay safe and my thoughts and prayers are with you to really challenging time for you guys over there. Thank you for your kind words and support all my videos and I hope they continue to bring you much comfort.
😅THAT is EXACTLY what I noticed about you. Looking through the comments I was like 😮 "He's in ALL THE COMMENTS!" YES, that stood out to me. Especially the questions you would ask to engage them, AND to get them to ACT.
Thank you for your acknowledgement my whole purpose and the purpose of my business is to communicate a kinder world. And the best way to do that is to engage with people communicate talk as questions. I suppose it’s a deep rooted transferable skill that I’ve brought with me from the police so I’m grateful that you’ve noticed and acknowledged it. And yes, it’s a great tactical approach to reach more people and I encourage everyone to do it, heck I’m voice noting this to you right now in my lounge as I watch TV I 9:30 at night. Congratulations on taking the step to start because many people don’t. The next step is finding a system and a cadence that supports you and brings you what you need. Look at who you want to serve for example I’m serving entrepreneurs over 40 that’s who I am and I have the knowledge skills experience and expertise over the last 10 years to do that. You have that figured out write a list of the top 12 video topics that you’d like to talk about and ask the audience you identified if they would like to learn discover or experience those topics. If there’s a need/want will be off the races, I hope this helps.

I'm on the 40 plus 1 plan. After 40 months of posting I've got 768 subs....So in a touch over another year I'll reach that 1,000 milestone Very first thing October 2025 I'll be a thousanaire Have a super weekend everyone!
I believe if you make one video a week solving a problem for the person you want were telling the story and sharing it with your channel you will soon hit 1000 subs way before October 2025. Check out the Courage before confidence training in the description links and all my videos that will really help you
A really good video, Steven. You caught my attention immediately with Over 40? and Road to 1000 Subscribers. Weren't we just talking about that last week? lol I'm not there yet, but I'm not far from it. Watching other older creators on the same topic, it's your positive attitude and vibrant energy that makes your videos more appealing to watch all the way to the end, too. I click off immediately when I hear depression and despair. Your 'Over 40?' is a becoming a recognized brand as a thumbnail, a stand-out from the crowd on my homepage, that I would run with that thumbnail brand and continue the playlist series to build up your watch time. It's a good theme. Your tips on comments made me laugh because I recognized last week what you were up to in pulling me back to talk about myself. Just be careful with that. A scent of insincerity can ruin you there. Are you really curious about me? Or are you just baiting the hook and I fell for it? But it has been pleasant to talk about myself, I won't lie to you there, like striking up a conversation with a stranger at a bar. You asked a question in the middle, and I forget it all now, legacy was one of the options, but I would advise putting that question in the comment section and pinning it at the top. Then I'll come back and answer it, lol.
Thanks for your insights! Absolutely I’m interested in you and the rest of the people that comment on my content. I’ve done my best to reply to every comment (all the ones I’ve seen and are aware of) over the last 11yrs. People fascinate me, it’s simply a bonus that engagement helps the platforms. I’m sure you took it that way. So what’s next for you?
@@Steven-Thompson Mmm, retcon, yum-yum. I've only recently discovered how to record my screen in 4K, so I've been going back into some blurry 720p videos to really polish them back up and republish them. Creating a legacy, you know, what they call Evergreen videos that will stand the test of time like a classic novel, but I'm also going forward with new content as 4K images get worked in from the start. It's a little extra audience attention every time I publish something either way, but the retcon is comparatively quick, so it buys me more time for the new content that I need to have more time with. I'm going to attempt to expand my audience base with subtitles in French as Canada is a big audience for me that could be bigger, but if nothing else, I love refreshing my own rusty 2nd language skills there. Here's a topic for you, right up your alley. A creator discovered that you lose watch hours after 365 days, and she was just shy of 4K when last year's watch time got subtracted from this month's watch time. She hit a watch time plateau for over a year, doing no better or worse, but never hitting that required 4K even though she had a bit over 1K subscribers. She averages 5 min per viewer and I avg. 20. You're on your way and building up fast to reaching 4K. What's your secret for audience retention? How did you make me watch this video all the way to the end? And I did, lol.
@@Steven-Thompson I took the leap and made a video with my own face on it just to see how I felt doing it, and because I finally thought of something that I really wanted to say to my own audience about myself. I didn't use a script or do any retakes, just told the story the way I'd tell it to a friend and edited out the numerous "so" 's and "um" 's afterwards, trying to capture a particular sensation on camera so my audience could relate. Like a stewpot, the inspiration to tell that particular story has come from many different sources, but your channel was one of them. So I just wanted to say thanks.😄
Great video and gives me as a 46 year old hope, I’ve had my channel for two months and I’m stuck at 81 subs my channel focuses on weight loss as I have lost 7 stone and have still got a bit to go so thought I’d start a UA-cam channel, I nearly let my disability stop me but I thought Sod it why not just go for it, so I did I’m enjoying it, it’s slow but maybe will pick up fingers crossed 🤞 xxx

I found your channel a few days and i really enjoy your style. I've been scripting a lot. Very difficult to talk off the top of my head. I created two videos in which i spoke mostly unscripted and got great feedback but really difficult. I'm going to focus on documenting my weight loss journey and this should be easier to speak about. I just need to lean into my personality more. I created 6 videos in the past two weeks but my approach and branding will shift starting tomorrow. It's amazing how you gain clarity as you put the reps in.
Oh my friend, you have just spoken to my heart getting clarity through putting the reps in is exactly what we must do. It’s like riding a bike the more we practice the more proficient we get . So what’s your next video about oh and have you seen the link in my description to my newsletter? You can also grab a copy of my brand playbook that will help you move forward .
Thank you for your videos. I just came across your channel. I love the message of rejecting the singular focus on 1K subscribers/4K watch hours to get monetized and your examples of earning as you build by leveraging your skills set. While listening I was scrolling and reading the comments and your responses and picked up that you were creating that ongoing engagement through your feedback and questions. Based on an odd word or spelling here and there I also decided you must be using talk to text! Would probably have never thought of doing that. Keep up the good work!

@@Steven-Thompson I'm a huge fan of the platform and the wealth of knowledge and entertainment it provides. I never considered I might actually CREATE content before now though, TBH! I suppose when I was in the job it didn't seem like an appropriate outlet due to the potential for conflict between my work and private life, which I now don't have to worry about. I'm now studying counselling / psychology to focus primarily on first responder mental health, which is also giving me time to consider building a channel around one of my other passions - cooking, and how it helps me deal with PTSD 💙🙂 👩🍳

I went from 500 subs to 2k in 45 days. Getting the first 100 was the hardest. But once I got hurt and lost my job and got serious I was making 3-5 videos a day and got it in no time. My trick was doing videos I knew “could go viral.” Controversial topics like how much money does he need to make to date you or how much money does he have to spend on a first date, etc. then 1 day my video about this woman losing her passport in the Philippines went viral and got over 100k views in a few days. I didn’t know which video would go viral but I knew one of them would. Other topics were he saved her from drowning and she sued him, or men being arrested for playing video games. The strategy was sound. Combined with the hard work and effort and it paid off big time.
That’s an incredible journey-going from 500 to 2k subs in just 45 days is no small feat! It’s interesting how you tapped into topics that could go viral, and it clearly paid off. I’m curious, how do you come up with these ideas? And what’s your process for deciding which topics are worth pursuing? Also, do you have any plans to try a different content strategy now that you’ve seen what works? Keep up the great work!
@@Steven-Thompson well I’m a travel channel to the Philippines. But that does overlap some with mens dating, which overlaps with passport bros and American/western women going crazy sometimes etc or having huge unrealistic expectations etc. like her wanting him to pay her rent to date her. I did have my viral strategy though. One thing I did with somewhat success was making music videos. I knew that they wouldn’t get monetized bc of copyright but I also knew music videos were popular and naturally entertaining and could get me my watch hours very quickly. One other thing I did was tap into an untapped market. Did a whole series of women who moved to the Philippines. Which is usually all about male foreigners going there. But with the rise of solo travel and people moving overseas bc the dollar goes further women are doing it too etc.
I really like videos like this, and congratulations, by the way! I'm 46, and have two channels that are 77 subs and 54 subs, respectively. They're very different niches/topics and wouldn't mix well. I rarely make a video, but I'm trying to change that. I recently started learning Davinci Resolve - hey, it's free - I'll need to get an Audiio or EpidemicSounds subscription, and I have a "good" Shure SM58 mic with a really high end boom arm. I'm focusing on Davinci right now, and watching a lot of "how to edit so good...", like by "Learn By Leo". He only has 3 videos, but over 75k subs. I've never been on camera, but I'm excited to be. I have a few framed posters behind me that aren't on the wall, and I'll be using my iPhone to start recording the video, although I do have a great GatorFrameworks boom arm and a Shure SM58 mic, so the audio should be good enough. Thanks for the video and for the channel. I love stuff like this, and

Everything is hard if it was easy everybody would be doing it, so I understand where you’re coming from. But there is a way because I’ve just shown there is a way the first step for everyone is delivering on camera actually not about a thumbnail. It’s actually not about your title. Because someone will click on the video if they don’t watch it because you can’t present or you’re not comfortable or confident on camera it’s gonna be a challenge and they will click off. So if you want to make it easier for yourself, check out the link in my descriptions to the Courage before confidence training program you’ll be making better videos in days if you implement the steps I share. 👍
❓❔❓ I have watched several of your videos, and they all are outstanding with excellent advice, however, all the advice you give are achievable steps that one can take to better themselves, but there is one factor that steals the confidence of camera presence for many and brings everything to a full stop, and that is bad teeth, making it embarrassing to talk in front of a camera, stealing their confidence even though one may have great communication skills. How does one overcome this challenge? I mean, besides the fact of getting them fixed when affordable ❓❔❓
@ross1full When I moved to Japan 20 some years ago, I was a bit surprised at how many people here have "bad teeth" . At least compared to the US where most of my peers got their braces in junior high school and I was the odd one out waiting until my senior year and first two years of college to straighten out my bite (100% because of finances). The thing I've come to realize is that we are born into the bodies that we're born into and whatever challenges they may have or we may perceive them to have, the more we can embrace every "flaw" as part of the total work of art that we are, the more beautiful we will become. If you have a confident demeanor because you know that what you truly are on the inside is so much more than your smile or any physical attribute, the people who are meant to align with you and your message are going to absolutely see you as shining! Especially, if you can own your insecurities and let people know about it, that your smile or whatever it might be has you feeling less than confident but you're showing up anyway, sharing those things openly. And if getting your teeth fixed is something you truly desire, the resources WILL show up, whether it be the money or an offer of help from a dentist who is watching your content because that's something you're talking about... Believe that you'll see physical changes show up in your reality as you embody them internally. All the best is waiting for you!!
I hear you there, losing my own teeth one by one as I age that it's like I'm six years old again, but I was confident in my own smile then and I'm still confident now, lol. Have you considered faceless videos? I watched a woman speak her own way through all of her videos, and the one that showed her face was to explain why she didn't look good on camera and it wasn't really necessary for her to show her face to make her own points given the subject material. Her voice was beautiful and comfortable to listen to, and showing her face was distracting to her, and because of that to me, too, not a visual aid to understanding the material nor to relating to her personally. Dare to be different and do what you're comfortable with. and your audience with be comfortable with you.
@@lotrfanhome your confidence in your smile in light of what you said, gives me encouragement to do the same. I am considering and looking at options for faceless videos that would fit my narrative. I do have a lot of messages and experiences that I would love to share with the world. Being a survivor of childhood trauma and Overcoming all the mental challenges and self-esteem issues that came along with it. Later in my adult life becoming a paramedic and serving others in their worst time of need has showed me a lot, and I have learned a lot from these experiences, both as a human being and spiritually. Ultimately, leading me getting hurt at work, having a minor sprain on my neck, which led me to a chiropractor that broke three of my neck vertebrae while he adjusted my neck costing me my passion and career. I thank God that I still have mobility and able to serve myself, however, this all presents a whole new ball of challenges that I have also learn to live and deal with which adds to what I have to offer from my experiences, challenges, and learning to live adjusting to my current limitations and making the best of life. A person really learns how strong one can actually be Until you need to be that strength for yourself. My teeth? Well, I will follow your inspiration and put my best foot forward and try to conquer those insecurities as well. Thank you for your reply and your insight! 👊🏼😎

They found that working through it through the Courage before confidence training has really really helped them as a link to it in every description to every video that I’ve put out so Grabbit take a look it will certainly help you because the more you’re in front of camera the less of a worry it becomes so the 30 day daily diary practice where you have support from me via your inbox every day will certainly give you the inspiration motivation , to work through this challenge. Thank you for your insights. Was there anything else that you took from this video as it was rammed packed and I would hate to think that all you got from it was ‘autofocus is overrated’ 😂
You really took off when you started using the SEO “Over 40” Noted 😎it’s quite simple really. I’m still considering applying for the partner program. Idk I want this just to be fun and encourage folks and motivate them not profit. So many weird emails I had to pull my address. Temu and other strange companies for collaborations. Stay true to you bro you don’t wanna come off salesy💸😊❤
To be honest, I’m best suited teaching coaching and educating the person I want was because I’ve lived through that. And can coach through experience. Being 47 and having skills experience and expertise in personal brand social media marketing and video creation it just seems a natural journey for me. I’m a true believer of coach the person you once were. Curious, what brought you my way?
Great advice! I really appreciate it, and as a relatively new creator at 68 I love seeing more emphasis on older creators and viewers. I’ve had my channel focused on helping seniors use technology safely, for nine months and am nearing 500 subscribers. @AwCrap-Tech
@@Steven-Thompson The first thing that struck me is your conversational style. I want to get to that point. I’m an introvert and initially had a friend get involved and was hoping to have her be the voice of the channel. But she wanted to go a different direction and I saw a need to put out quality videos, so I now use a teleprompter and at times clone myself with a green screen. But I want to be more casual and conversational.

@@solocasting22 congratulations on getting Monetized

Hahaha, I don’t give trophies 🏆 for 8th place haha 😜
All 5 noted my friend. 👍
Love your video! You are definitely talking to me. I’m just starting out at 58.
You got this!
Thanks for your lovely comment, what’s your next step?
I'm tapped in. I need something LOL!
Thanks for stopping by tell me my friend what is it you need?
hello Steven thanks a lot....you are a great inspiration for a lot 40+ god bless you
My pleasure! Thank you for your kind words. What’s helping you the most?
@@Steven-Thompson your sincerity and your kidnees thanks a lot.
Great video! 😊
Thanks for the visit!
I appreciate your kind words. What was your biggest takeaway? And how are you gonna take action on it?
Very good advice.
Thank you for stopping by. I appreciate your kind words. What was your biggest takeaway?
And how will m you take action on it? #Curious.
My biggest takeaway is to just start. That age is just a number. And yes, I took action a few weeks ago. You just reinforced that.
Love your videos and the value you provide. Do you have any coaching more geared towards growing a channel, channel audit and strategy for monitoring?
Thank you for your kindness.
Yes I do, I work 1-2-1 right now and I’m about to bring all of my experience running a client agency to building a personal brand to UA-cam!
I still haven't got into editing, I'm going to work on it a little bit at a time. It's not easy for me to do it. I'm quite good at doing my videos in one take without too much mistakes, and I quite like being natural and getting rid of the idea of perfection.
I understand, in that case you will enjoy todays video, it goes live in 2hrs
Hi Steven need this today, as a newbie I really need help to get my channel in the right lane making sure I’m doing it right
I understand, why not book a Discovery Call, you will find links in my descriptions.
I also have a new program coming out soon, it’s part of my existing Heart Brand Academy and it’s for UA-camrs like us.
@@Steven-Thompsonwill check the link up. Thanks for replying to my comment, would love to be featured to your channel, I was featured once to a huge UA-camr here in Singapore, my focus on your tube and making this work is borderline obsessive, literally this is a full time commitment to me and want to make it work and needed a bit of help to hit that cord to make it to my one video that made the world notice my channel and all the values I have to offer
“Have you ever met a police officer without confidence?” Yep, most of them that I know. PTSD is a mongrel. Have toyed with the idea of doing a channel based around the struggles and triumphs of dealing with PTSD as an ex-cop, but the self doubt and the mental monkeys are holding me back….
Thank you for stopping by and sharing your insights.
We all have challenges and Demons that we must consider when we embark on a journey, my best advice is to ensure we have some support mechanism when we embark on the journey of UA-cam.
Because like other social channels, there will be a few people that want to 💩 in your comments.
Alas, we can’t get away from some of the negative aspects of human nature.
I’ve coached hundreds of police officers in the world of social media so if you wanna jump on discovery call let me know and I’ll send you the link.
@@Steven-Thompson thanks Steven. Thanks for the offer. Might just take you up on it one day soon. Taming the mind monkeys one thrown poo at a time.
I hear you, my friend.
Let me know when you’re ready
Ex officer here as well, now nurse just diagnosed with cancer. Let's talk about ptsd and mind monkeys! You should absolutely make a channel like that. Just may save a life. I plan on doing something similar with my ask the murse channel.
So I am no 61 and trying to dive into the world of social media. And I have absolutely no idea where to start. For years I have been told to write my biography. But thought putting it done on line. As we do in the 21st century 😂😂
Great, make a ‘mastered this list’ and make videos 1 by 1
I love your delivery. Do you use a teleprompter?
Thanks, I use one for my notes, but I tend to free flow on a subject and revert to my notes/script of if I go off track.
I appreciate your support and kind words 🙏🏻
Where can I make logo, thumbnail, and banner without spending an arm and a leg?
Simples, Canva!
@@Steven-Thompson Thanks pal!
Thank you a lot for your video and your advice 😊 a question, do you think a faceless channel can works too? I mean, I publish music and sounds for relaxing and tinnitus relief, I will do something new for next week and along with relaxing music I will film my painting process… but not my face, only my hand and the painting. Do you think that’ll be ok without show my face? (I’m really shy and frankly don’t want to show my face 😅)
Hi, thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your your comments and your insights.
I will always say lean into yourself you do you however I have seen through data channels with faces build like and trust quicker.
My friend is an artist and he appears in his videos and sometimes he turns the camera and shares what he’s done. He is smashing it in his videos because he’s being honest and authentic.
If you are struggling with confidence right now, I would suggest you look at my courage confidence video training that will fix that and have you come camera confident in 30 days? I’ll drop the link for you so you can have a look.

@@Steven-Thompson thank you for your answer and for the advice 🌸
@Steven-Thompson, do you ever worry about what your friends think? I worry of they think I’m an idiot by doing it, taking online to people I don’t know, should I worry?
Any advice you could give me?
Thanks
In answer to your question I simply don’t. I’ve built up the resilience over years and I teach people how to do that in my online program where people get lifetime access to me so if you need the support check out the link I’m about to drop for you to our founders program the heart brand blueprint you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

I am 63 and just started a channel. I get some views, but how hard it is to get them to subscribe or like?
Understood, are you asking them to like and subscribe?
all of this is great, but for a channel like mine with music mix, no matter what i do, nothing happens and i'm starting to fade out
Have you ever thought about pivoting your channel and maybe teaching how you create music so the others can have an experience like you’re having?
That way you could run a course create a membership and charge people for what you know. #JustAThought.
@@Steven-Thompson yes but according to UA-cam support , I cant have two categories of videos on my channel, I wanted to do that, but they say if you want to do it, you have to create another channel
This is my FIRST comment EVER on UA-cam: "Over 40 / Solopreneur / Online Business / Lifestyle / Legacy " - That's me - 5 for 5
Love it, that’s awesome!
You might want to take a look at my community post and see if the brand new ‘Heart Brand Blueprint’ is also such a good fit for you too 😉
It’s the founders launch 🚀 we go live on 3rd December!
@@Steven-Thompson some topics write themselves. Like I friendzoned the good guy or I divorced the good man etc.
I love stuff like this, and
Congratulations to you too you made the decision to start and you’ve got subscribers.
Based on the average new UA-camr here you are well ahead.
Sounds like you have all the kit you need to make some great videos. Your iPhone will be fine and I do have a microphone for my Podcast style videos.
Putting yourself on camera is a challenge check out the link in my videos and have a look at the Courage before confidence training program that will fix that problem in 30 days handsdown.

How do I structure my content help
That’s a great question this video has the answers for you ua-cam.com/video/cBjJK2kArv0/v-deo.htmlsi=s-yd0EHtltx4cYXm
Its to hard
Everything is hard if it was easy everybody would be doing it, so I understand where you’re coming from.
But there is a way because I’ve just shown there is a way the first step for everyone is delivering on camera actually not about a thumbnail. It’s actually not about your title.
Because someone will click on the video if they don’t watch it because you can’t present or you’re not comfortable or confident on camera it’s gonna be a challenge and they will click off.
So if you want to make it easier for yourself, check out the link in my descriptions to the Courage before confidence training program you’ll be making better videos in days if you implement the steps I share.

@ross1full
When I moved to Japan 20 some years ago, I was a bit surprised at how many people here have "bad teeth" .
@@DelainaMiyazakiThank you, for your kind words and advice 🙏🏼 keep up the great work 👊🏼😎
I hear you there, losing my own teeth one by one as I age that it's like I'm six years old again, but I was confident in my own smile then and I'm still confident now, lol.
Thank you for your kind words and stopping by and sharing your insights.
I hear what you’re saying and so my clients have had similar challenges.
Good luck on your journey and I hope to speak to you again soon
The music was way to distracting.
Thank you for your insights.
It’s such a shame that during all of that content and that Value that you only noticed the music never mind maybe take another look and see what you can take it as an action step from it to build whatever you’re building.

4:40 Autofocus is overrated.
😆
Congratulations on your milestone.
And thank you for your kind words. What was your biggest takeaway from the Video and how will you use it? #Curious.
Great video! 😊
