@zombie and body armour! Like just use a smoke or treachery and you have your res sorted, can use a duriels shell or duress. The max res is extremely nice, makes it ez to hit hard cap as pally, etc.
The thing is ... sets in D2 don't do what sets in D3 do. So set items can work to fit specific needs for builds, especially at lower levels when other options aren't available. Sigon's set is over the top good for low levels because of the "hidden" bonuses also.

@@harris2898 I believe the gloves give you 30% Attack Speed with 2 items and the boots give a ton of Magic Find and resistances with 3 items. And you get some good Lifesteal with any 2 items
I found 3 Arctic early on while playing SSF in hardcore and I wore that past nightmare it was a blessing when you find low-level sets during low levels
Iratha's alone will have you sitting at 85 all res, 20 frw, 20 ias, and decent defense added. It also leaves all of your crucial slots like weapon/shield/chest/rings/boots open for other stuff. I've played characters who wore this set all the way through hell and didn't swap out until my end game gear. It's probably a high B tier set for sure. Thanks for the tier lists, but finally found one I disagreed with!
And now it's got piercing attack, so you don't need Razortail. With the right bow (WWS mainly) and some resist armor a Bowazon can max all resists in NM, and hell as well.
I like these tier lists a lot. Hopefully it helps us figure out what's worth keeping and using. However, a little more effort could be added. Showing the bonuses for example instead of saying "it's great" or "everyone knows what it does" or " it's garbage". There is uses for all those sets TBH and some ppl collect full sets so I would hold all greens
I'm little late to this vid but I think Cleglaw is a nice set. The long sword is a bit of a pain to equip early on, but overall is a sweet starting set. It has CB, DS, IAS, all res, attack rating(so much AR), slow target. I mean what else do you want from low level set?
I agree with this. use this set from normal and now i'm at nightmare act 3; still with this set. probably will stick with this until i find better items. Problem is you need to find replacement for all 3 items.
@MrLlamaSC I would put Cleglaws in A-S tier easy. This is pretty much the best thing you can get as a melee early-mid game. You can basically progress through entire hell with cleglaws. The set bonus gives you 35% crushing blow, 6% ml, extra ias. The sword by itself gives you 30% extra attack rating, and the set adds max damage that scales based on your level (that's why you can basically just keep using it until hell). Having gloves also give you 2-item bonus of AR based on level. Slow on gloves and all rez on the shield are just cherries on a cake.
Just to add, I've done multiple runs of level 1 to hell baal on hardcore with multiple melee characters using Cleglaws. If that helps prove my point :D
Clegs is indeed underrated here. 3 pieces only and you get stuff like major CB and DS, as well as mana leech and 75% poison length reduce. For something you can equip by level 9 it's pretty damn good. Orphan's sucks though. It's okay but not end-game by a long shot. More like a B or C tier.
This is an area of the game that could be tuned, extended to some degree. Farming sets is fun for a lot of ppl, would be nice having them more in line with their direct BIS competitors.
@@pascaltomasovic3586 i just don't understand some of the stats. like why is there dual leech on the tal mask. it's an elite set. basically in the black march normal is where you stop hitting enemies for damage. makes zero sense on a lategame sorc set. i mean in the end sets were pretty great playing offline in d2c without pluggy. you didn't have many of the bis uniques and rw's and hr's weren't even possible to drop and more than unreasonable to cube anyways. but yeah since d2r now has all the stuff in offline and non ladder all the sets are really kinda pointless since except for aldurs boots, laying of hands and gface like no other items are worth using over the uniques or runewords. maybe as a temp till you get something better but there aren't really any bis choices among them except those 3 afair. well okay you could argue that many builds really have options for slots like boots and there is not like ONE bis choice but it's more a kind of preference really. and then natalyas can also be really great boots. dual res and 40 frw. they are solid. but mostly by the time you get a certain set item they are worse than what you already have even if you wear the full set. low level sets can be a blessing if you find them low level but that is hardly ever the case sadly. on the other hand the REAL bis items are also friggin impossible to come by in lots of cases. like artisans tiara of speed, 6/40's, jmod, or jewelers armor of the whale on zones or those insane fools mod, ed per level, ethereal self rep etc. rare weapons that WOULD be dope to have on so many chars. getting 2 bers for an infinity is easy compared to dropping or rolling these insanely gg items imho. but that's the fun about diablo 2. it's soooo rewarding to finally get something great you've been grinding for for so long.

@@pascaltomasovic3586 found a sur in d2r already. in d2c i had 2 zods like 2-3 chams and a few jahs and bers over the ladders i actively played. and a few offline when i played using pluggy. getting those is really not that unlikely compared to a really gg rare roll weapon. cause you have to keep in mind that it needs to be insane cause otherwise grief will be just better. so that means something like 40 ias, close to perfect ed roll, max dmg per level, fools mod with like 1500+ ar in endgame levels, 2 os, repair mod and ethereal. it's about as likely as finding a perfect ethereal tomb reaver. i mean if some people wouldn't have ran bazillions of bots in d2c there wouldn't have been any of these items around at all. like maybe 1-2 in the world every ladder. it's just so unlikely to roll a weapon with all the gg stats close to maximum since well. grief does exist and grief is fuckin op.

The thing about Hsarus' Set is that the full set has Cannot Be Frozen, ON TOP of a belt that is 3 slots, and the boots with 20% FRW. On top of all that is +25 light/fire res, and +20 cold. All at level 3. It's definitely A Tier at a minimum.
I'd change Iratha's place with Isenhart's. Iratha's full set bonus is alright at early ladder. Isenthart's on the other hand has never offered any use.

If by "shall" you mean "should", I totally agree! That is one of the most common complaints, that the original sets are only usable through normal/NM because of crappy weapons. Which of the sets do you think would work longest with upgraded pieces?
I use aldur boots for almost all of my caster characters so I would rate the set higher. 40frw 50 life and fire res to counter the fire res lack from spirit shield is a winner for me.
If you're taking constructive criticism, I'll add that I think it would be really nice if you explained what made each set good, or what the various pieces do on their own and together. In the beginning you mention that the ring is great and "everyone knows that", but I've no idea (and apparently neither did 51 other people as of writing). Explaining these a smidge more in detail would be really appreciated. I'm a noob player and was hoping this would be like... A one-stop place to find great info, but I realize I need another tab open yo know what you're talking about. Other than that, I gotta say I like how you clearly know a lot about the game. You've got a pleasant voice as well. Definitely got the makings of a great guide channel if you keep developing this! (Of course I'm 3 years late on this, so this might already be improved)
Cathan's is criminally underrated for leveling, B tier imo. Yeah it takes lvl 11 to equip whereas Sigon's is equippable around 6-7, but Cathan's has much lower strength requirements, gives more bonus fire damage, a bunch of resistances, and some mana. It also suffers a lot less from breaking the full set bonus. Almost every character I make ends up using Cathan's Mask+Armor+maybe Jewelry at some point, and slowly breaks the set up by level 17 for Stealth. One of my favorite parts of Cathan's is that you can use Armor+Mask and still use Angelic Ammy+Rings(+Sword to get the big 3 piece bonuses).
I loved farming for sigons belt, boots, and gloves early on. Really good for melee characters. Life steal, faster attack, resists, and some magic find, were what I wanted them for.
Civerb's is my favorite weapon early on before level 25. Fire res for 2 items, light res for 3 items. It's good if you donating it to lower char, you just never going to get it soon enough by yourself.

The full Irathas set had my Amazon to 85 resist all, and left my shield and weapon slot open. I love that set. It is very nice not having to worry about resistances at ALL, going into and through Nightmare.
Could you answer a very basic question please? how does one go about finding a complete set? what I mean I mean is I have found dozens of pieces.... but never came close to finding an entire set. Is there a strategy? For example if I find 1 piece of a set in a certain location can I continue to form that location to find the rest of the set or is it all just chance. It seems like it was all just chance no one would ever get a complete set.
It is simply worse than the necro form. It has worse breakpoints for fcr/fhr/fbr/etc all around. I don't know what went through the dev's heads making that form so bad.
It has some benefits, but a huge flaw. A benefit, not everyone know is you will walk and run at the same speed. So you can switch your caracter to walk, move with the same speed as you run but still has max block. So this is good. The very bad thing about the set is it will modify you casting breakpoint, similar to the vampire monsters casting speed and animation. So even with 86% fcr, you will end up casting the same speed as a base necromancer and you need 120% fcr to cast 1 frame faster than a base necro with no fcr. This just nullifies bone build where you need fast casting, but overall you char will feel very slow. Not a bad set but this casting penalty is huge.
Vampire form in my opinion works great for poison Nova. The slower cast rate actually let's the poison job before you get the next one off also works for summon builds as well. But I do see a problem with a bone-mancer as u would have to have a Shard or HOTO to try to get the next fcr breakpoint for the vampire form.
I had some insane set luck yesterday. While rune farming trav they dropped tals ammy. I took my sorc out with a full tals set to try it out and on my third meph run he dropped telling of beads. Later on i found crescent moon as well, pretty sure thats my years good luck all used up.
Eh, Sigon's is really only good for a non-spellcaster, and takes a lot of strength to equip and requires using a shield to fully benefit from (realistically only a Paladin will do this). It is good for sure, especially if you plan to respec out of that strength at the end of normal anyways. But even for the classes that is good for, there are other options that are at least as good if not better.
@@bjcrawley everyone is going to respec out of their starter build. It would be dumt just going straight for your main build. So sigons is great for everyone, you can use it all the way through normal and respec when you hit 30-40 and move on to NM :)
Great video. I feel like people dismiss the earlygame sets too often whilst forgetting that we gotta *get* to Hell Difficulty first before we can put on the top-tier endgame stuff! 😂 I play a lot of SP D2 LoD and my two clutch sets for Act 1 and 2 Normal for my Pally is a combination of two full sets (yes, you can wear both!) of Angelic Raiment and Hsarus' Defense. You can farm Andariel (or frankly *any* Ac1 Normal Boss) for Hsarus' defense and all but the Jewellery for the Raiment, whilst Duriel runs will get you the jewellery. Not ideal drop rates of course, though the tradeoff is by farming early the game has a smaller treasure pool to choose from.
Cleglaw's is definitely underrated. One use I found it was for farming the Countess on Hell with a hydra-orb sorc - since Cleglaw's damage and AR scales, and it has CB and slow target, it's especially good against super-uniques. There is probably better gear to do exactly the same thing with a sorc, but it's much harder to find.
Cleglaws is viable in Hell on a Bladesin. Your blade fury adds physical damage, and the set gives scaling max damage, deadly strike, Knockback, Slows target, Crushing blow, AR, a little all resist, and some IAS (which does not matter.) Add a bit of Fade, some decent jewelery and armor and you are set. Death Sentry, a good Shadow warrior, and a source of Amp damage or Decrepify (possibly on merc) round out the combo.
Can someone explain me why Angelic Raiment is S tier ? Whats so special about it and how shoult it be played? I completed the set but dont know what to do with it
I remember I used to think having a full Immortal King would make a Barb extremely powerful, but back then I didn't know about either specializing in one skill or the existence of overwhelmingly powerful runewords and particular builds. Too bad sets became almost useless eventually. Not only the green letters when finding one is a kinda cool thing, but also putting together the pieces of a whole should reward stuff as powerful as what you get from runewords.
Runewords are just next level power creep. They should have made hundreds of mid and high tier runewords and power boosted uniques and sets to be BiS, imo.
Sigon's Belt is incredibly busted of an item when you think about it. It has 20% fire resist and 20 life, which is already very rare to shop for in Nightmare Act 5. You can shop better, but it takes a really, really long time to do so. On top of this, despite it's 60 strength requirement, it has 12 potion slots, which is such a huge quality of life boost in normal difficulty. Overall, this is one of the best belts in all of Normal difficulty and is still really good in nightmare if you find nothing better.
Is Aldur's weapon with 3 slots better melee weapon ( i put 3 shael but are there any better options? )than Honor runeword or any runeword prior to 50s for a zealot?
I think if you went set by set looking at the arreat page this would be much more useful for new players; like this its just something for old hats to debate the order of things (e.g. Arctic is mini Sigon's but often more flexible)
I remember when I and my sister were vey young, we're very bad players. She raged and searched for cheats and discovered Hero Editor. We took advantage and created every single rune and then rune words. I also discovered that I could download every set item so I did. Fun days. Later in high school, I legit played the game and beat hell few times. I found many unique items in many playthroughs but never ever completed a single set item until now. I still don't know how to complete one. Do I just have to be lucky? Do I need high magic find? Does wearing a piece of a set increases the chance of finding the rest?
You have to magic find them, some sets are easier to find than others though. Tals and IK might take a while but I think most of it can be farmed from H Meph
Just farm act Bosses from normal Andariel to Hell Baal depending on the set you want to find, you could also look for their loot table to know who to farm
Iratha's set is the best set in classic and many hell chars use that. In terms of resistance that's the best you can get in that low level. 50% all res (*65) and 10% max res on level 15!!! It also does not take weapon/shield slot, and you put it as the second worst set in you list?! I mean, come on dude...
@@markw1528 He cared about set and this set will basicaly let you to have 85% all res at the beggining of normal act2. It also halves cold effect and reduce poison time to 1/4. It's an end game set in classic and one of the very best starter sets in LoD, especially for a caster. Also it can be used by any char, any build. Yeah, the belt is not that good but still decent in normal diff. 5 min damage for example can come in handy for most physical chars. Easy A tier in LoD and S tier in classic but definitely NOT the second worst in the whole game. :D I mean, do he really tell me, Heaven's set or The Disciple or Cow kings set are used more often (except for 1 particular piece maybe)?
Honestly, I think you are sleeping on Iratha's set. I think it is high C tier or low B tier. The helm/amulet combo for casters is pretty great, tbh. On bnet (bnet because you could rush a toon to a5 quick to grab socket quest), if you are willing to use a socket quest on the helm and put a thul in it, that is 45@res over two pieces. You give up lore but in exchange that is a TON of value early. The additional 75% psn dmg length reduction is also a really nice QoL bump for early ladder because it makes hell andy a lot easier to fight. 3 piece with the gloves is also great early for the frw and cold res (so not socket quest needed). It is actually a pretty flexible set, it is just the belt that sucks eggs.
The whole set isn't bad either for as early as it is. When you add everything up, you get 65@res and 10% all max res, frw, and ias. I think if the belt was just a bit better (ideally just giving it a 4slot belt base would do it), Iratha's set could reach A tier. A shame. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

I think it is simply one of those cases of MrLlama being mainly a single player, pvm only kinda guy. He has a giant pool of knowledge and experience, but it can be a little narrow-minded when it comes to things that he doesn't have as much experience in. It has been a long time since Llama has made a ladder character that has been played longer than a day or two. It has been some time since he has really struggled with things like farming Hell Andy, so he doesn't have that experience recently to back up his opinions. I don't think that makes him wrong or whatever, just having a different and limited perspective like the rest of us.

With Natalya's set the boots, which are nice for nightmare for lots of characters, make it an unsuitable for an MA Assassin in Hell, due to lack of damage.
Clegaw can do hell fine and is easy to get problem is with the fact that only paladin can use it's full potential. I would put it definitly above cow king leather.

I have a question about D2R. You cant find 8 players all the time in day time , i will be able to set players to 8 to get exp. fast and for other stuff and also sometimes I should be able to join multiplayer game to get help when I cant pass somewhere. is this not possible in single player D2 resurrected? I mean in battlenet.
I love IK set on Werewolf Druid. Gloves+belt+boots are so insane that only super high end combination of uniques can compete with these cheap bad boys. Maul works fine too if I have nothing better
After finding loads of worthless and non class useful Unique's, I was super stoked I found 3 pieces (gloves, belt, boots) of the IK set. Wasn't even unpleasantly surprised after finding out it's barb specific. My level 76 poison nova necro in Hell appreciates the upgrade nonetheless!
I disagree with low level lifesteal being bad. The example of 18 doesn't line up with the kind of damage physical attacks normally deal throughout normal. 6% of something like 100-200 damage is minor but significant upkeep for fast attackers like zealots and frenzybarbs. I found the difference rather obvious and I'm surprised you disagree.
Love your content MrLlamaSC. With the new patch updates set pieces can now be upgraded. An updated video might be cool if the stats improve well enough for starter sets to be useful later in game. Maybe
I would love an individual best piece from each set: like Griswolds Armor is really strong budget, Hwanins Polearm is strong alone (I slammed it but it broke), Milebrega's Shield is godly MF early... You mentioned some partial combos too: Angelic ring/ammy, Sanders gloves/wand are nice for early +skill (I found them together in Act 2 normal), Sigons armor/boots/shield (wore it until hell Act 3 gives 50 MF and +skill) Well, you did go into them some. I value trash because I always run self-found. GG :)
Berserker helmet + armor is ok. Just the axe is bad. On Civerb on the other hand, I only find the weapon to be ok, so I sometimes try to combine this for an early game barbarian.
Blizzard definitely should've updated some of the classic set items when they released LoD. I mean, giving them synergistic bonuses was a start, but who would ever put 100 STR to use Milabrega's armor for just 2 DR and Attacker takes dmg of 3 :D Many of the weapons could be OK, but often the level or stat requirements causes them to be virtually unusable once you get there basically.
If angelic raiment is s-tier then trangs gloves + belt + shield should be at least S- because of how strong that combination is for a psn-nova necro, it gives you everything you need.
I think you under-valued Vidala's. I use the ammy and boots much like you used Tancred's for early run MF. With the 2pc the boots give 30FRW, and +8 all rez, and the ammy gives 20% cold and 50% MF. additionally, I had a half dozen Vid boots before I even looted my first Tancred's boots; the TC3 is a killer. I also start all of my new characters that don't need CBF with Hsarus' boots and belt. I really like the life and rez, and I always seem to have plenty where I needed to farm TC3's before I ever had anything other than the Death's touch.

That's my point. I wouldn't purchase the game with missing content. Also I'm not pre-purchasing nor buying the game till after release and everything is stable.
i started my like 4th paladin on d2r now.. first time making a Hammerdin.. using 3 pc Iratha's.. which gives very good resists and set bonuses.. run/walk.. add in boots of Vidala.. amazing. Vidala boots giving +150 stamina.. & 30% r/w at lvl 14. Half freeze duration from Iratha set bonuses and poison reduce 75% duration.. gona do a lot of running early on.
MrLlama, this format is fine for super advanced players who actually know what these sets do and what the bonuses are but we scrubs don't understand anything. Have you considered explaining the sets and the bonuses before actually ranking them? I know this takes a lot of time but this way the non-advanced people actually understand what's going on without having to switch to the wiki each 10 seconds :)
15 years ago when I played on PC I always had full talrasha on my sorcs and full IK on my barbs but I always felt like they weren't great, I was really young back then and never really did any research on stuff like that, UA-cam wasn't around yet or it was in it's first years and wasn't reliable for guides at the time
I like this tier list arc BUT of what I understand a reason for this series is that a possible new player base might arrive with resurrected and for new players this is waaaay to less details. Tal and immortals are the best...why? I like the gloves and the helmet...why? what do the sets do, why are they good? I mean doing a tier list for the people that already know all this stuff seems kind of pointless, right?A tip, have all the stuff u want in the tier list at the bottom and then put them in the tier list, while explaining what they do, why they are good and why they deserve the place in the tier list. Sounds kind of negative but it isn't meant negative at all because other than that I do enjoy this series

@@harris2898 I believe the gloves give you 30% Attack Speed with 2 items and the boots give a ton of Magic Find and resistances with 3 items. And you get some good Lifesteal with any 2 items

I found 3 Arctic early on while playing SSF in hardcore and I wore that past nightmare it was a blessing when you find low-level sets during low levels
Iratha's alone will have you sitting at 85 all res, 20 frw, 20 ias, and decent defense added. It also leaves all of your crucial slots like weapon/shield/chest/rings/boots open for other stuff. I've played characters who wore this set all the way through hell and didn't swap out until my end game gear. It's probably a high B tier set for sure. Thanks for the tier lists, but finally found one I disagreed with!

People really underestimate the impact of +max res. The increase from 75 to 85 % resistance is a 40% reduction in received damage.
And now it's got piercing attack, so you don't need Razortail. With the right bow (WWS mainly) and some resist armor a Bowazon can max all resists in NM, and hell as well.
I like these tier lists a lot. Hopefully it helps us figure out what's worth keeping and using. However, a little more effort could be added. Showing the bonuses for example instead of saying "it's great" or "everyone knows what it does" or " it's garbage". There is uses for all those sets TBH and some ppl collect full sets so I would hold all greens

I'm little late to this vid but I think Cleglaw is a nice set. The long sword is a bit of a pain to equip early on, but overall is a sweet starting set. It has CB, DS, IAS, all res, attack rating(so much AR), slow target. I mean what else do you want from low level set?
I agree with this. use this set from normal and now i'm at nightmare act 3; still with this set. probably will stick with this until i find better items. Problem is you need to find replacement for all 3 items.

@MrLlamaSC I would put Cleglaws in A-S tier easy. This is pretty much the best thing you can get as a melee early-mid game. You can basically progress through entire hell with cleglaws. The set bonus gives you 35% crushing blow, 6% ml, extra ias. The sword by itself gives you 30% extra attack rating, and the set adds max damage that scales based on your level (that's why you can basically just keep using it until hell). Having gloves also give you 2-item bonus of AR based on level. Slow on gloves and all rez on the shield are just cherries on a cake.
Just to add, I've done multiple runs of level 1 to hell baal on hardcore with multiple melee characters using Cleglaws. If that helps prove my point :D
Clegs is indeed underrated here. 3 pieces only and you get stuff like major CB and DS, as well as mana leech and 75% poison length reduce. For something you can equip by level 9 it's pretty damn good.
Orphan's sucks though. It's okay but not end-game by a long shot. More like a B or C tier.
You forgot to mention Sigons Gloves with one other sigons piece give 30% IAS. Very valuable!

This is an area of the game that could be tuned, extended to some degree. Farming sets is fun for a lot of ppl, would be nice having them more in line with their direct BIS competitors.

i mean in the end sets were pretty great playing offline in d2c without pluggy. you didn't have many of the bis uniques and rw's and hr's weren't even possible to drop and more than unreasonable to cube anyways.
but yeah since d2r now has all the stuff in offline and non ladder all the sets are really kinda pointless since except for aldurs boots, laying of hands and gface like no other items are worth using over the uniques or runewords. maybe as a temp till you get something better but there aren't really any bis choices among them except those 3 afair.
well okay you could argue that many builds really have options for slots like boots and there is not like ONE bis choice but it's more a kind of preference really. and then natalyas can also be really great boots. dual res and 40 frw. they are solid.
but mostly by the time you get a certain set item they are worse than what you already have even if you wear the full set. low level sets can be a blessing if you find them low level but that is hardly ever the case sadly.
on the other hand the REAL bis items are also friggin impossible to come by in lots of cases.
like artisans tiara of speed, 6/40's, jmod, or jewelers armor of the whale on zones or those insane fools mod, ed per level, ethereal self rep etc. rare weapons that WOULD be dope to have on so many chars.
getting 2 bers for an infinity is easy compared to dropping or rolling these insanely gg items imho. but that's the fun about diablo 2. it's soooo rewarding to finally get something great you've been grinding for for so long.

in d2c i had 2 zods like 2-3 chams and a few jahs and bers over the ladders i actively played. and a few offline when i played using pluggy.
getting those is really not that unlikely compared to a really gg rare roll weapon.
cause you have to keep in mind that it needs to be insane cause otherwise grief will be just better.
so that means something like 40 ias, close to perfect ed roll, max dmg per level, fools mod with like 1500+ ar in endgame levels, 2 os, repair mod and ethereal.
it's about as likely as finding a perfect ethereal tomb reaver.
i mean if some people wouldn't have ran bazillions of bots in d2c there wouldn't have been any of these items around at all. like maybe 1-2 in the world every ladder.
it's just so unlikely to roll a weapon with all the gg stats close to maximum since well. grief does exist and grief is fuckin op.

The thing about Hsarus' Set is that the full set has Cannot Be Frozen, ON TOP of a belt that is 3 slots, and the boots with 20% FRW. On top of all that is +25 light/fire res, and +20 cold. All at level 3. It's definitely A Tier at a minimum.
ceglaws sword also can be cool (50 deadly strike) and max damage based on character level. Early on it's good for a play through
I actually paired it with bloodletter and the gloves on my nightmare whirlbarb. Works okay when you have no high runes to make decent weapons.
I'd change Iratha's place with Isenhart's. Iratha's full set bonus is alright at early ladder. Isenthart's on the other hand has never offered any use.
Irathas can carry you through hell just fine. It only lacks fhr, but I suppose all sets do. The frw and res are quite amazing for early ladder.
Now we need them to add enough shared stash space to hold all of the sets!

If by "shall" you mean "should", I totally agree! That is one of the most common complaints, that the original sets are only usable through normal/NM because of crappy weapons. Which of the sets do you think would work longest with upgraded pieces?
I use aldur boots for almost all of my caster characters so I would rate the set higher. 40frw 50 life and fire res to counter the fire res lack from spirit shield is a winner for me.

If you're taking constructive criticism, I'll add that I think it would be really nice if you explained what made each set good, or what the various pieces do on their own and together.
In the beginning you mention that the ring is great and "everyone knows that", but I've no idea (and apparently neither did 51 other people as of writing). Explaining these a smidge more in detail would be really appreciated.

Cathan's is criminally underrated for leveling, B tier imo.
Yeah it takes lvl 11 to equip whereas Sigon's is equippable around 6-7, but Cathan's has much lower strength requirements, gives more bonus fire damage, a bunch of resistances, and some mana. It also suffers a lot less from breaking the full set bonus. Almost every character I make ends up using Cathan's Mask+Armor+maybe Jewelry at some point, and slowly breaks the set up by level 17 for Stealth. One of my favorite parts of Cathan's is that you can use Armor+Mask and still use Angelic Ammy+Rings(+Sword to get the big 3 piece bonuses).
I loved farming for sigons belt, boots, and gloves early on. Really good for melee characters. Life steal, faster attack, resists, and some magic find, were what I wanted them for.
Trang'oul is pretty nice on "budget" poison necro. Fire wall is a pretty nice boss killer, which the only thing a mediocre poison necro lacks.
3-piece trangs (gloves, belt, shield) is competitive for BiS on nova necros afaik. Not a runaway, but decently competitive.
Civerb's is my favorite weapon early on before level 25. Fire res for 2 items, light res for 3 items. It's good if you donating it to lower char, you just never going to get it soon enough by yourself.

Immortal King set is the best of all sets. You do not even need to worry about physical immune

The full Irathas set had my Amazon to 85 resist all, and left my shield and weapon slot open. I love that set. It is very nice not having to worry about resistances at ALL, going into and through Nightmare.

can someone clarify what early game is? normal or NM? i assume hell is late game. once you throw in rune words, do the sets fall in tier quickly?
Could you answer a very basic question please? how does one go about finding a complete set? what I mean I mean is I have found dozens of pieces.... but never came close to finding an entire set. Is there a strategy? For example if I find 1 piece of a set in a certain location can I continue to form that location to find the rest of the set or is it all just chance. It seems like it was all just chance no one would ever get a complete set.

It is simply worse than the necro form. It has worse breakpoints for fcr/fhr/fbr/etc all around. I don't know what went through the dev's heads making that form so bad.

It has some benefits, but a huge flaw.
A benefit, not everyone know is you will walk and run at the same speed. So you can switch your caracter to walk, move with the same speed as you run but still has max block. So this is good.
The very bad thing about the set is it will modify you casting breakpoint, similar to the vampire monsters casting speed and animation. So even with 86% fcr, you will end up casting the same speed as a base necromancer and you need 120% fcr to cast 1 frame faster than a base necro with no fcr.
This just nullifies bone build where you need fast casting, but overall you char will feel very slow.
Not a bad set but this casting penalty is huge.
Vampire form in my opinion works great for poison Nova. The slower cast rate actually let's the poison job before you get the next one off also works for summon builds as well. But I do see a problem with a bone-mancer as u would have to have a Shard or HOTO to try to get the next fcr breakpoint for the vampire form.
I think laying of hands is awesome. It plays really well on it's own on Frenzy, Strafe, and zeal. No set bonus required.
I had some insane set luck yesterday. While rune farming trav they dropped tals ammy. I took my sorc out with a full tals set to try it out and on my third meph run he dropped telling of beads. Later on i found crescent moon as well, pretty sure thats my years good luck all used up.

If you have Twitchthroe as an S tier, because it's awesome early on, then you need to put Sigons in S Tier too.
Eh, Sigon's is really only good for a non-spellcaster, and takes a lot of strength to equip and requires using a shield to fully benefit from (realistically only a Paladin will do this). It is good for sure, especially if you plan to respec out of that strength at the end of normal anyways. But even for the classes that is good for, there are other options that are at least as good if not better.
@@bjcrawley everyone is going to respec out of their starter build. It would be dumt just going straight for your main build. So sigons is great for everyone, you can use it all the way through normal and respec when you hit 30-40 and move on to NM :)
Cleglaw may be BIS early game for a Zealer, fury druid, etc. Should be ranked A at least IMO.

I play a lot of SP D2 LoD and my two clutch sets for Act 1 and 2 Normal for my Pally is a combination of two full sets (yes, you can wear both!) of Angelic Raiment and Hsarus' Defense. You can farm Andariel (or frankly *any* Ac1 Normal Boss) for Hsarus' defense and all but the Jewellery for the Raiment, whilst Duriel runs will get you the jewellery.
Not ideal drop rates of course, though the tradeoff is by farming early the game has a smaller treasure pool to choose from.
Cleglaw's is definitely underrated. One use I found it was for farming the Countess on Hell with a hydra-orb sorc - since Cleglaw's damage and AR scales, and it has CB and slow target, it's especially good against super-uniques. There is probably better gear to do exactly the same thing with a sorc, but it's much harder to find.

Cleglaws is viable in Hell on a Bladesin. Your blade fury adds physical damage, and the set gives scaling max damage, deadly strike, Knockback, Slows target, Crushing blow, AR, a little all resist, and some IAS (which does not matter.) Add a bit of Fade, some decent jewelery and armor and you are set. Death Sentry, a good Shadow warrior, and a source of Amp damage or Decrepify (possibly on merc) round out the combo.
Can someone explain me why Angelic Raiment is S tier ? Whats so special about it and how shoult it be played? I completed the set but dont know what to do with it

I remember I used to think having a full Immortal King would make a Barb extremely powerful, but back then I didn't know about either specializing in one skill or the existence of overwhelmingly powerful runewords and particular builds.
Too bad sets became almost useless eventually. Not only the green letters when finding one is a kinda cool thing, but also putting together the pieces of a whole should reward stuff as powerful as what you get from runewords.
Runewords are just next level power creep. They should have made hundreds of mid and high tier runewords and power boosted uniques and sets to be BiS, imo.
Sigon's Belt is incredibly busted of an item when you think about it. It has 20% fire resist and 20 life, which is already very rare to shop for in Nightmare Act 5. You can shop better, but it takes a really, really long time to do so.
On top of this, despite it's 60 strength requirement, it has 12 potion slots, which is such a huge quality of life boost in normal difficulty.
Overall, this is one of the best belts in all of Normal difficulty and is still really good in nightmare if you find nothing better.
And it combos with the gloves for a sweet sweet 30 ias boost on the gloves as well

I remember when I and my sister were vey young, we're very bad players. She raged and searched for cheats and discovered Hero Editor. We took advantage and created every single rune and then rune words. I also discovered that I could download every set item so I did. Fun days.
Later in high school, I legit played the game and beat hell few times. I found many unique items in many playthroughs but never ever completed a single set item until now. I still don't know how to complete one. Do I just have to be lucky? Do I need high magic find? Does wearing a piece of a set increases the chance of finding the rest?
Magic find and farm. Only way
You have to magic find them, some sets are easier to find than others though. Tals and IK might take a while but I think most of it can be farmed from H Meph

Just farm act Bosses from normal Andariel to Hell Baal depending on the set you want to find, you could also look for their loot table to know who to farm
Iratha's set is the best set in classic and many hell chars use that. In terms of resistance that's the best you can get in that low level. 50% all res (*65) and 10% max res on level 15!!! It also does not take weapon/shield slot, and you put it as the second worst set in you list?! I mean, come on dude...

It's an end game set in classic and one of the very best starter sets in LoD, especially for a caster.
Also it can be used by any char, any build.
Yeah, the belt is not that good but still decent in normal diff. 5 min damage for example can come in handy for most physical chars.
Easy A tier in LoD and S tier in classic but definitely NOT the second worst in the whole game. :D

Honestly, I think you are sleeping on Iratha's set. I think it is high C tier or low B tier. The helm/amulet combo for casters is pretty great, tbh. On bnet (bnet because you could rush a toon to a5 quick to grab socket quest), if you are willing to use a socket quest on the helm and put a thul in it, that is 45@res over two pieces. You give up lore but in exchange that is a TON of value early. The additional 75% psn dmg length reduction is also a really nice QoL bump for early ladder because it makes hell andy a lot easier to fight. 3 piece with the gloves is also great early for the frw and cold res (so not socket quest needed). It is actually a pretty flexible set, it is just the belt that sucks eggs.
The whole set isn't bad either for as early as it is. When you add everything up, you get 65@res and 10% all max res, frw, and ias. I think if the belt was just a bit better (ideally just giving it a 4slot belt base would do it), Iratha's set could reach A tier. A shame.

I think it is simply one of those cases of MrLlama being mainly a single player, pvm only kinda guy. He has a giant pool of knowledge and experience, but it can be a little narrow-minded when it comes to things that he doesn't have as much experience in. It has been a long time since Llama has made a ladder character that has been played longer than a day or two. It has been some time since he has really struggled with things like farming Hell Andy, so he doesn't have that experience recently to back up his opinions. I don't think that makes him wrong or whatever, just having a different and limited perspective like the rest of us.

With Natalya's set the boots, which are nice for nightmare for lots of characters, make it an unsuitable for an MA Assassin in Hell, due to lack of damage.
Luckily you can upgrade them now. I think this set tier list should be redone because of this, e.g. Death's belt is a lot better with 4 rows.
Clegaw can do hell fine and is easy to get problem is with the fact that only paladin can use it's full potential. I would put it definitly above cow king leather.

You cant find 8 players all the time in day time , i will be able to set players to 8 to get exp. fast and for other stuff and also sometimes I should be able to join multiplayer game to get help when I cant pass somewhere. is this not possible in single player D2 resurrected? I mean in battlenet.

I love IK set on Werewolf Druid. Gloves+belt+boots are so insane that only super high end combination of uniques can compete with these cheap bad boys. Maul works fine too if I have nothing better

After finding loads of worthless and non class useful Unique's, I was super stoked I found 3 pieces (gloves, belt, boots) of the IK set. Wasn't even unpleasantly surprised after finding out it's barb specific. My level 76 poison nova necro in Hell appreciates the upgrade nonetheless!
Isenhart for the win! I used to collect Green Breast Plates back in the day. I had over 200 of them.
I disagree with low level lifesteal being bad. The example of 18 doesn't line up with the kind of damage physical attacks normally deal throughout normal. 6% of something like 100-200 damage is minor but significant upkeep for fast attackers like zealots and frenzybarbs. I found the difference rather obvious and I'm surprised you disagree.

I would love an individual best piece from each set: like Griswolds Armor is really strong budget, Hwanins Polearm is strong alone (I slammed it but it broke), Milebrega's Shield is godly MF early...
You mentioned some partial combos too: Angelic ring/ammy, Sanders gloves/wand are nice for early +skill (I found them together in Act 2 normal), Sigons armor/boots/shield (wore it until hell Act 3 gives 50 MF and +skill)

Berserker helmet + armor is ok. Just the axe is bad. On Civerb on the other hand, I only find the weapon to be ok, so I sometimes try to combine this for an early game barbarian.
Blizzard definitely should've updated some of the classic set items when they released LoD. I mean, giving them synergistic bonuses was a start, but who would ever put 100 STR to use Milabrega's armor for just 2 DR and Attacker takes dmg of 3 :D
Many of the weapons could be OK, but often the level or stat requirements causes them to be virtually unusable once you get there basically.
If angelic raiment is s-tier then trangs gloves + belt + shield should be at least S- because of how strong that combination is for a psn-nova necro, it gives you everything you need.
I think you under-valued Vidala's. I use the ammy and boots much like you used Tancred's for early run MF. With the 2pc the boots give 30FRW, and +8 all rez, and the ammy gives 20% cold and 50% MF. additionally, I had a half dozen Vid boots before I even looted my first Tancred's boots; the TC3 is a killer.
I also start all of my new characters that don't need CBF with Hsarus' boots and belt. I really like the life and rez, and I always seem to have plenty where I needed to farm TC3's before I ever had anything other than the Death's touch.

Is D2R to be released with all characters and Acts unlocked? Otherwise why pre-purchase or even buy the game if content is going to be missing.

@@UtubemeNohomo Unless something changed we should have all content when the game releases. I think the only thing that wont be is ladder until later, but I think we can get ladder items and runewords in non ladder now.
Why wouldnt it be? Who would buy it vs just playing the original game?
That's my point. I wouldn't purchase the game with missing content. Also I'm not pre-purchasing nor buying the game till after release and everything is stable.
i started my like 4th paladin on d2r now.. first time making a Hammerdin.. using 3 pc Iratha's.. which gives very good resists and set bonuses.. run/walk.. add in boots of Vidala.. amazing. Vidala boots giving +150 stamina.. & 30% r/w at lvl 14. Half freeze duration from Iratha set bonuses and poison reduce 75% duration.. gona do a lot of running early on.

About the sets. I know the first two are wizard and Barb sets. The rest I don’t know what classes use them.

MrLlama, this format is fine for super advanced players who actually know what these sets do and what the bonuses are but we scrubs don't understand anything. Have you considered explaining the sets and the bonuses before actually ranking them? I know this takes a lot of time but this way the non-advanced people actually understand what's going on without having to switch to the wiki each 10 seconds :)
15 years ago when I played on PC I always had full talrasha on my sorcs and full IK on my barbs but I always felt like they weren't great, I was really young back then and never really did any research on stuff like that, UA-cam wasn't around yet or it was in it's first years and wasn't reliable for guides at the time
This video needs a refresh on the new format, with more details on all the sets IMO

I like this tier list arc BUT of what I understand a reason for this series is that a possible new player base might arrive with resurrected and for new players this is waaaay to less details. Tal and immortals are the best...why? I like the gloves and the helmet...why? what do the sets do, why are they good? I mean doing a tier list for the people that already know all this stuff seems kind of pointless, right?A tip, have all the stuff u want in the tier list at the bottom and then put them in the tier list, while explaining what they do, why they are good and why they deserve the place in the tier list. Sounds kind of negative but it isn't meant negative at all because other than that I do enjoy this series
