When I saw 'Merry's Funeral', 15 years ago, I cried like a beaten dog... It took me a long time to recover, since he hit me hard. It is something that, seeing the evolution of the episodes, you expect, but not so intense, not so deep... You think 'it's a ship, in an anime series'... But no, Merry is a nakama like Zoro, Usopp o Luffy. It's member of the crew and the affection that fans feel for him, the empathy that is shown at that moment, makes it , after a third of my life later, every time I see these episodes, I think 'well, here we go again' and I'm still crying.
I think the reason that the Merry broke in half at that specific time was that it felt that with the Galley La ship arriving it didn't need to continue to a shore for the crew to stay alive. Like it was holding it's last breathe of life just until the crew could reach safety
I was concerned that she was already grieving even before Merry spoke, most people I've seen hold it in and burst at that point, I was tearing up along side you

When i was young my mother saw me crying over Mufasa's death. She said that it's only a cartoon and that i shouldn't cry over it. Cartoons are just cartoons after all. She also said that if she saw me crying again she'd forbid me from watching cartoons again. In someway it made a huge impact on my life and i never cried again. No matter how sad movie or cartoon was. Titanic? Pff... Hatiko? Whatever... Earlier series of One Piece? Is it even sad? Yes, i didn't cry when Nami stabbed her arm. I didn't cry when Vivi was screaming on top of the tower. I didn't cry when Robin said she wants to live. But then this came... And cried... I cried for the first time after 18 years. Like some huge block was lifted from my chest and i suddenly became emotional again. That's why this episode takes a special place in my heart. It was just a ship, but it returned me my emotions. Thank you, Merry! You made me human again.

When usopp said "we have one more NAKAMA", I guessed vivi(but if it is true, she become criminal. So not..,) , iceberg(but do usopp think him as NAKAMA? So not...) Then, my expectations were betrayed in a best way. I like onepiece now and in the past, And I read all episode including latest. But the episode of waterseven and merry, usopp, robin (and young marine appear in next and the word "new world") is best episode for me.

I'm vague and say "yes, one of the first deaths is really sad" but when they watch this episode they get really upset haha. "I didn't think you meant the Going Merry! I'm very upset now." Luffy giving her a Viking type fire send-off because at the bottom of the sea she'd be alone is so wonderful.
After 3-4 weeks of watching one piece every day, i was invested. I saw this episode when i was 14. I cried so much my parents thought i had depression. It was hard to explain Titanic 2.0

Everytime....I think I can watch this without crying and I almost do but the moment I hear "I'm sorry" I immediately bawl my eyes out...
