I'm about to go through The Leftovers a fourth time, this with the woman who loves me, and I fully plan on warning her, "Everything from this point ('Will you dance with me?') on is fucking impossible magic and I am not going to stop happy crying for maybe an hour."
I thought the music was pretty obnoxious throughout the show and often showed a definite insecurity of the directors or editors in their abilities to convey emotions on screen using dialogue and visuals. Even the great music by Richter was abused throughout the show in this way, but the pop music was usually much worse. However, in this scene, it was just right. The show was a very thought provoking mixed bag for me--sometimes brilliant, and sometimes just bizarre soap opera. I'll definitely watch it again some time, but MANIAC was far superior. You should check it out on netflix. You'll like it.
I really liked all the Simon & Garfunkel, I think remember 3 of their songs featured. The Feelin' Groovy made me laugh hard in a weird way at that scene
@@bradojacko8247 lol are you telling me the use of pixies, beach boys and james blake in their respective scenes was forced? Looks like you got filtered
Tears streaming down my face. I'll be honest, I didn't care much for the final season, but I feel like the finale was beyond perfect. It was heart achingly beautiful. Of all of the people who didn't believe in anything, of anyone who was part of the "non-guilty" remnant, Nora was found by Kevin by something that, by no means on earth, by no way of making a machine, can be explained in any way. It was the power of love. He found her. Their love transcended time and space and everything else; loss, family, normal life. "I am here." There are no words to describe the feeling of witnessing this heartfelt moment. What an incredible series. The leftovers dug at the depths of our hearts that we try to avoid getting to, but know we all need to time and time again. I am so blessed to have watched this series. It will forever hold a special place in my heart.
It's the best show I've ever seen. Watched it twice. I'm about to watch it a third time. I can never stop crying. I've had this love. We had a beautiful son he's 19 now It's been 8 years since we split, i left, and I still love his dad, and he still loves me. But can't be together broken heart 💔
"Dreams to Remember" by Otis Redding. One of the Great R&B singers of that time. There is nobody in that error of Otis Redding and Sam Cooke that can come close that emotes their emotions when they sing.
I think this is the most romantic and heart breaking scene from any tv show I've ever seen. Second would be Ed and Norma's kiss in Twin Peaks: The Return, which also features Otis Redding.
First time I watched this episode I cried my heart out. This scene is particularly powerful and both actors are terrific but boy, what Justin Theroux was doing is just superb.
I re watched the series the other day and discovered that this is the same song that was playing in the background when Kevin invited Nora meet Jill for the first time. When he made dinner at his (senior's) house in Mapleton and when Jill asked Nora why she kept a gun in her purse? S1E8. It was something I never paid attention to when watching the series for the first time. But, after the finale episode, that song becomes unmistakable when you here it again. It was THEIR song, at least from Kevin's perspective. Fast forward to this scene, that's just another reason why the are both so emotional. It's rekindling that young love excitement from x amount of years ago, along with all the drama that had happened thereafter. Genius shit. Pure genius. Best show ever.
Just came here to say the same thing! This scene was way more iconic of the series so I've watched it multiple times, but I picked up the song immediately after rewatching S01E08.
I have to admit. My heart has been neutral position for a long time. I feel like i have given up on it. Forgotten what it's like to be put in use. This. This reminds me what it's like. What, one day, it will be like again. Fixed. Broken. Used. This show was underrated.
The people who have not seen it or don't want to see it are people used to instant gratification and this is way above their head to comprehend. Be blessed that only a few such as us enjoyed watching this art with our souls.
Whenever my eyes feel dry and hurt, I watch a scene from the leftovers. It’s much more special than medication8) 1 scene 4 times a day. Humid eyes forever. Clear vision. No redness in the eye.

Iuh. Just watched this days ago and what a powerhouse of emotions ! Their inability to hide the feelings they want so desperately to cover up is so poignant !
Perfect scene. In an alternative reality, this would also have fitted in perfectly with Nat King Cole's "I remember you". Don't believe me? Start both simultaneously, they even have the same length!
Is something wrong with me? Everytime I watch this and final scene tear beggins to fall from my eye. But, I'm not crying, The tear won't stay in my eye, just falls down on it's own. I can't help it. Is it because "The Book Of Nora" is masterpiece of the tv-show ever made?
The Leftovers is such a great show because the penultimate episode is “let’s rap up the weird shit people think the show is about” and the last episode is “this, THIS, is what kept you watching.” I don’t think I’ve rooted for two fictional people as much as I’ve rooted for Kevin and Nora.

This version of this song is infinitely better than the original. Especially the last quarter of the song, when he starts with the “Good dreams! Bad dreams! Sweet dreams!” part.
I have to disagree I don't know where they got this alternate take but there is a reason this version didn't make the final cut. The lyrics scream "first draft"!! The "Joe Blow" lyric is distractingly bad. Otis' wife Zelma is listed as one of the song writers and I think she made some rookie mistakes. I think that whoever chose this version to use in that dance scene was just being too cute by half.
So am I missing something?! Cause I’m really starting to get pissed off. Every time I look up Otis Redding I Got Dreams To Remember, it’s not the same song.
