  • You have to prune tomato plants if you want to really maximize your harvest, but everyone seems to have their own method for how to prune "correctly". In this video, I share my top 4 pruning hacks that changed EVERYTHING for my tomato plant production.
Keep these steps in mind when pruning a tomato plant that grows on a vine (indeterminate tomatoes). (You don’t really need to prune patio tomato plants, aka determinate tomatoes, much.) I also discuss the different parts of a tomato plant, so you can look at your plant and actually know what to prune and what to keep.
Watch this video and then get your pruners ready!

This resonates with me. I pruned suckers off of my indeterminate tomatoes last year, and it really reduced my yields from the prior year when I mostly left them on the plants. My growing season isn't short, but it's not especially long either, and my garden only gets just over 6 hours of sun, so I need as many fruit producing trusses as I can get. Too many youtubers offer one size fits all recommendations, so I really appreciate this contrary take

Please do a video on trellising squash, watermelon, and pumpkins. Do you prefer to trellis them or to let them roam on the ground? What are the pros and cons to each?

We've got videos on growing squash and watermelon on the edge of raised beds! Just search our channel for the plant names. Pumpkins would be the same as watermelon. I've been letting them roam on the ground, but your garden will get a little wild!

Topping is good, it should branch out and make more suckers, this video mostly saying don't prune the suckers lower on the plant if you want most tomatoes I think

Thank you! I’m learning so much from you! So, we don’t have to do any of these steps if we have a determinate tomato 🍅 plant?

Determinate tomatoes are basically self-pruning, but you'll still want to remove any discolored or pest-affected leaves. That's pretty much it.

    What about suckers on suckers?

I would base the decision on how your plant is looking on the trellis. Do you want it to keep spreading out or climb more?

HELP HELP HELP! Please please please if you can do a video on pith necrosis and pseudomanas corrugata disease on tomato plants! I've lost 5 out of 8 of my beef steak plants and I think I have one or both of those diseases I noticed black spots up and down the stems in different areas and when I prune the dead branches I've noticed inside the stems are completely hollowed out with decay! It's my very first garden so i know the soil is new since this spring! Just wondering different methods of prevention treatment and what I can do to make sure the soil is good enough for the next round of plants! Thanks you!

I'd start with a soil test. Avoid planting more tomatoes or peppers in that area until you know what's going on

Search our channel for flowers. We've got several different videos. Two of my favs for warm and hot weather are zinnias and marigolds
