I love the shape such a stylish motor. I still have mine looking for parts, coals, and a water pump.

I do the OMC coil conversion and use a Honda 10 impeller.

Beautiful engine. I’ve only dealt with the BAM engines, but that 10 hp powerhead is a sweetheart. They always idle well and start super easy

They really are great runners, and could hang with the best of them.

would you be able to post or send me a few pics of the tiller labels. Mine are gone and it would be good to know the appropriate positions.

@darinosland7339 I would if I could. I don’t think UA-cam allows posting of any pictures.

    Awesome… probably an under-rated 12hp, unlike todays over-rated 9hp (or x ‘cc’).

It seems like the HP ratings back then were all over the place. There was no standard prop shaft HP rating.

My late BIL, Had one years ago. According to him they made good boat anchors 😂 It quit on him out in the middle of the lake. He unfastened it & dropped it over board. Said it was not going to ride back while he paddled. 😂😂😂

Poor engine. The systems on them were no different than many other brand engines. I wonder what difficulties he had with it. I’m sure they could have been remedied.

@GearHeadJP You probably right. He was a hot head anyway.

@darinosland7339 It is sometimes on eBay. If I remember correctly, my last batch came from England.

my pop got a deal, back in 63, It was known as a 43 Hp scott atwater very unreliable engine, electrical issues with it, may be run type engine, when it did, it was OK, other wise it was fashion together, parts product from other known sources an other
one was the Fire-stone out board, loud loud engine, ran great, 16 HP, it ran hard.
like it was to go in to self destruct. back in the day Elgen was an other popular out board.

Flying Scott Was another that was not only reliable but others began to copy innovations in thier smaller outboard designs.

I’ve come to really like the Scott Atwater engines. No matter what brand engine, they all need the same attention to details when servicing them. And the West Bends are some of my favorites. Light smooth and powerful!
