- Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, "I never sit on files", in reply to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor's question over pending dues for GST compensation.
"Since Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had just told the Lok Sabha that all pending dues for GST compensation had been paid to the states, I sought clarification of the position regarding Kerala, whose Finance Minister has averred that Rs. 4439 crores are still due in shortfalls since 2017," Tharoor tweeted.

Dr Sashi Tharoor is an extempore orator, is a real pride for all Indians on a par with the high quality of speeches made by V K Krishna Menon and Sir C P Rama Seamy Iyer .
VK Krishna Menon was the worst defence minister of India. We lost 1962 war because of him. He used to make Generals fight with each other by spreading rumours about their wives. And he did so in the paranoia that Army would do a coup on the government.

It's only because this absence of transparency of public service, the mistrust between the State and the Centre in so called federal structure of our constitution that after 58 years of our becoming independent India, we had to promulgate such declaratory statute like RTI Act just to ascertain that State i.e the Government is not telling what it ought to its subjects i.e the citizen.

You don't know how the constitution and states function...…most state govts are too powerful, have larger work force and most importantly excessively corrupt. They change budgets, spend money on whimsical things that govts are not supposed to do. Sania mirza making crores of money in gifts while farmers are committing suicides and Olympians getting peanuts if they dont win something are smallest examples. 90% of execution is with state govt, while Centre controls taxation and have control of spending and accountability. Its a decent check and balance.

@@clashon4846 It's not about comparisons with a government that hasn't been in power for 8 years now. It's about asking the current government to do its job better. Competition between parties must come into the picture only once every 5 years. Rest of the time, we should be focused on whether the ruling party is doing what we need them to.

True. My can't the state gov of Kerala, TN and etc can't provide proper GST collection document to claim their refund. Is there any fraudalent act involved in the GST collection like in the TN like charging GST for GST exempted goods and charging 20% extra for food like yogurts, and packaged milk instead of 5%.And the 15% goes into the DMK's pocket. The GST collection must be placed under the central gov supervision not the state gov. These MPs of these states asked the same question and become after he or she wad told to submit the GST collectible verification documents.🤦♀️

It's pitty to note that almost all State Governments, barring a few ,there involves no Professional approaches among State Government officials, so is the Office of CM. They have little mechanism to check Data they prepare for submission to Finance Ministry for authentic validations. State's careless official approaches suggest that their dedication to Official Jobs rest with uncared supervision by those who are entrusted with. Union Finance Minister rightly pointed out the genuine lapses of office management without any Accountability where data mismatched gets vibrant. Moreover, why do such lapses of internal office management of State become a point of Issues to be discussed at Parliament? Enforcing Accountability at local State Level can ensure responsibility of operating official instead of abusing the platform of Parliament. MPs tend to make mockery at Parliament with imaginary Data with clear intentions to waste valuable times at Parliament in the name of Personal Selling. This trends are increasingly becoming near to dereliction of Duties & Responsibility among State Level functionaries as Fashion. Any discussion must be constructive & authentic.

The centre cannot release funds if earlier expenses are reconciled. This is what we could. make out from FM spesch. It is for the states to reconcile the accounts and get it certified by AG. What for AG is there?

I think you're overrating her a little. Shashi's concerns are valid. Why is the work not being done yet? And "not needing outside advice"? I don't think you understand how democracy works. As an MP, it's Dr. Tharoor's job to fight for the interests of his constituency, even if it means asking the cabinet ministers to do their jobs better.

.you fellow always doubt.....I dont know how GST amounts are paid but here is a fact I expect. so state govts cant submit bills because they get budget allocations for one project and spend on something else. Earlier state govts use to pass this off making contractors wait for years but its not happening any more. So I did a project in my village, money was paid by center to state, my state govt used it for their whimsical project .......I still did not get paid nor the beneficiary got his so called double bedroom house. We should ask more accountability rather than cribbing at something happening good.
So ,until &unless these fraud people are kicked out from politics ,ther is no way .

Maam, we all know how hard working you are and so you don't sit on files, that we know. Well, working hard doesn't necessarily mean you are doing everything right. Our economy hasn't been good since 2015 or so. GST has created many untold problems. Instead of defending simply, please accept the govt's fault and work on correcting it as you are very hard working..
