Heard this first some years back. Couldn’t fathom that someone had managed to make a version of it that held it’s ground against the original. When the original was so, so special. Respect. This gives another parallel way of enjoying such an emotive tune.
As a BoC 'fan' ... There are no fans, once heard it is the only music, like nothing else... Solange deserves credit this is sooo good... Just another way to absorb BoC...
everyone, go listen to Boards of Canada. one of Solange's favorite groups, and they produced this for their EP Trans Canada Highway. i recommend listening to all their albums if u enjoy production this detailed. The Campfire Headphase is lush like this. Music Has The Right To Children is an album that captures nostalgia better than any ive heard. And Geogaddi is just well, mind blowing anand sort of terrifying, filled with occult references. all their music is worth checking into. Solange also sang on another of their songs. Slow This Bird Down i think
I didn't know about BOC till I heard this and listened to their tracks and I like their type of music. I'm definitely surprised she was able to put words to a wordless track and make it sound like it was meant to be.
actually, the music of this song is from Boards Of Canada, a scottish electronic duo that I strongly recommend. I wish these singers had this audacity more often
shes sang over two of their songs because she is a big fan of them. they arent credited cause they dont want that kinda spotlight. she isnt being audacious, this is great
@@colonelsanders4006 "Solange approached our record label and we gave her our permission. I realize that this was considered to be unusual: someone from the R&B scene who sings over a Boards Of Canada track, but we liked what she did. To me it sounds like an unknown theme(song) from a James Bond movie or something like that." -Michael Sandison, BoC
I like this. Her vocals make you appreciate the BoC track in a whole new light. It reminds me of when I’d play a vocalist friend of mine tunes that I’d made (and that were intended to be instrumentals) only for him to do an improvised vocal on the spot which brought a whole new essence to my original tune. 😊
The original is amazing from Boards of Canada and she made it 🔥🔥🙌🙌. She’s so underrated. And no offense to her sister, Solange music is smoother. I love it.
Beautiful song... love it. I play sometime when I’m relaxing and eventually fall asleep. This song... some Sadé (all of her songs but her song Mermaid... ugh so good) some Alex Isley (just found about her and I don’t know how missed her... her songs are straight vibes), Victoria Monét Jaguar album, Seal (Violet)... vibe music.
Been a fan of BoC ever since I discovered them 15 years ago. Came here after listening to her version of Slow This Bird Down. Didn't like it, but I'm digging this.
Okay this is much better than what she did to Slow This Bird Down. The vocals actually fit with the song a lot better. I wouldn't listen to this over the original Left Side Drive, but this is actually pretty good.
The racism and misogyny is really showing in these comments from Board of Canada die hards ☠️ If you actually stopped being elitist gatekeepers you would have done your research and discovered that Solange actually asked their permission before she covered their tracks and they like what she did with it. I’m a fan of both BoC’s and Solange’s work and I’m glad both artists have more of a diverse taste than some of the discreditors in this comment section so an amazing cover like this can exist ☺️
I usually hate it when vocals are added to electronica. They ruin it all the time. Until now. I love the original. The vocals with it, is very nice. Good collab
I agree. Although I should clarify that as a big BoC fan I can't escape a feeling of bias towards to music, but I do genuinely find the singing beautiful and a very respectful addition to the music. However, the track itself - despite somewhat intricate layers - leaves a gorgeous open, airy and stripped-back impression for me. I feel, despite the number of tracks it uses, it is spacious, restrained and allows each sonic addition room to breath and weave in and out. Because her vocals - beautiful though they may be - appear to be mixed too loudly, they don't allow the track to breath as a whole, which is a little disappointing. edit: it could also be down to the quality of this upload, so I'm going to do some digging.
@@pieceofpecanpie this is the dilemma when you have a perfectly executed original track (ie boards of canada's left side drive) then layer an inspired vocalist
BoC already transport you to a past that never existed but should have, and then Solange matches that vibe completely. Damn her voice is so fine.
One of the best song I've heard... Live these "different" songs!!! 🌹

This is one of my favorites, from a time the internet was still exploratory! I miss then. Congrats Solange on adding anther dimension to a classic.

the only reason I know about this version is because BoC shared this on their facebook page, they seemed truly honoured!
no joke. my hair stood up and i kinda choked up the first time i heard this. powerful collab.
I’ll never forget the feeling I had hearing this for the first time....
Bree Motley it's been almost a god damn decade I think since I first heard this. Damn.
She nailed it.

Huge BoC fan. Devour everything of theirs I can find. How had I never found this until this week? I'm totally here for it!

@@SmokesKwazukii they're credited right about your comment in the description.
@@SmokesKwazukii respectfully, I disagree. I can appreciate her vocal talents, but this is fucking awful. she's completely butchered the track.

Been a Boards of Canada obsessive since the late 90s. Left Side Drive is in my top three of their tracks. I think she nailed this.

Didnt know she was chill like that bravo solange
This song smacks...love solange
Wow. I can't believe how great this mix is. Totally awesome.
Still love this! I always turn to version of Left Side Drive now - it's the only pure Boards track that's better with vocals.
Wasn't a fan of her Slow This Bird Down cover, but this one is amazing! Feel like she really gets BoC.

Why is this not on Spotify? It's so good.
Love this song
Still listening to this in 2021 ♥️
Simply wonderful.
So refreshing
I was waiting for the ending of the left side drive, but it bever came. The ending to this that was cut it beautiful. I recommend you search for it.
Still my FAVORITE ❤️
Still my favorite 2019❤️

love both!
I drive around in circles. Back to BOC every god damned time.
2020? 🙋🏿♂️
She has a pretty voice
Damn, this is excellent.
she makes this song so much better i have endless respect
Now all we need is Dayvan Cowboy with vocals from Beyonce.
Well done.
The best part of this track is from 0:00 to 4:41
holy shit this is incredible
a beautiful song Solange
This song is so pretty, a pulchritudinous voice.

The real Queen.
Hi - does anyone know where you can get this as a high quality download please? To buy or download? Not sure what album this appears on originally?
Only SoundCloud
The ish
Mostly BoC, Tycho and Aphex Twin are the reasonable people
I wonder if she realises the LSD reference. (I just read the lyrics, I think she does)
Karaoke version: ua-cam.com/video/Ygfh6dFUtcU/v-deo.html
cool song
where can i find the instrumental
The instrumental is from Boards of Canada on their EP entitled "Trans Canada Highway"
I wouldn't mind this at all on some kind of BoC mix record, together with their remix of Nevermen - Mr Mistake
Still a fave
Can someone tell me where I can buy this track please???
I have that ten times over, know it and love it. Was asking about this version, being a BOC completionist. Thanks for the help! @@anotherland2462

This song is an amazing cover of Left Side Drive 🤩 is there a song of this or is it just a remix on UA-cam?
This technically is a real version from Solange. Got blessings from the group.
So rich
you know it's really cold in canada because is a left side drive
Kristina Zanghi no. It's not.
Tripuy
The thumbs down is for the fact she isn't sitting on their lap.
