Good info. One of my friends from high school (long ago) kicked. He was pretty good as I remember. He played in 1 or 2 Super Bowls. I enjoyed seeing some of the techniques required.
I played football in grade school, jr. high, and high school. Of the 5 years I played one of my assignments was kicker for the first three years. Only reason I was not kicker the other two years, the coach wanted me to be down the field tackling having two other players that could kick. My kicking was in the end zone every time having kicked the ball at least 60 yards. In field goals, I could kick them at 35 yards with hardly any misses. Like you said field goals are a whole another animal in kicking. Now we only played like 8 games a year but I practiced all the time on everything. So, I can write seeing her kick in the small amount of time you were showing her with her kicking like she was, outstanding. For her size, on a cold day, Emily was doing swell on those kicks. Way to go.
The greatest kickers have always kicked with the toe forward, the current kickers kick with the inner side like soccer kickers. The toe kickers seem to kick longer but slightly less accurate. I still kick with the toe forward but hit a 70 yarder in high school when we had more than a 2 step lead off. I'm 57 now and can still kick because I stay loose and can still do the splits at 57..
She is a natural, plantar flex, hips coming straight through, not crossing over and the toes of her plant foot - perfect. It usually takes forever to not move toward the ball but to the plant spot. The other crazy thing she did was once she paced off, she stayed in place, no happy feet. Coaching kicking isn't usually that easy. You know your stuff, and she actually did what you said. She seemed to naturally feel comfortable doing good technique. That looked like a fun day.
