Terrific "Selection" technique using masking. Thank you kindly for sharing. Will make it part of my workflow when I need to select by subtle colors that seep within the image.
@@inaffinityforaffinityphoto3220 Ditto for me, with Photoshop. To my knowledge, I'm the only person who ever thought of it. I can't think of a way to monetize it, not yet anyway.
Dave, a few minutes ago I commented on the gamma video asking for something like this, but I should have said less complicated. I was looking for a simpler approach to selecting a "color" using HSL. Here's a request, a version of "Dave's Zone System" macros, but for color ? Instead of zoning a shade of gray, zone around shades of a given color ??? Does this make sense ?
@@inaffinityforaffinityphoto3220 Dave, thank youi ! - I've been reviewing all your videos again, especially since you started using the formulas (procedural textures). I think James Ritson created something like what I'm asking for, I saw a reference to it, but couldn't find the macro he might have created. You have so many videos that dance around this. The Zone system macros have helped me isolate "white" - in my mind, the macro I asked about should have the ability to not only define the range of a color (like HSL wheel), but also isolate pixels that are only the pure red, green, or blue, or maybe in this case zones are zones of the color wheel. I realize I am babbling now and not using a precise vocabulary as I'm thinking out of the box. The macros should have a single function and that is of selection. I'd be happy to test prototypes. Pedro is my stage name :)
One of the most informative tutorials about the HSL adjustment I've seen.
How beautifully you explain complex ideas...wow!😘
Brilliant. I had to follow this through carefully about 3 times, but now I get it.
Thank you for specifically mentioning what those 4 blooming dots do relative to the hsl adjustment. Clarification, simplification. Much thanks.
Why have I never stumbled upon this video? I've searched for this on and off for years. However - thank you
In version 2, you also have a built-in hue range mask.
Wow this is a very neat way of selecting color ranges!

This is great indeed. I was searching for the Range mask like we use in Photoshop.
Great video! Just what I was looking for. Very well explained. Thank you!
I haven´t seen this tutorial before!! It is really fantastic, very helpful . Thank you so much Dave !!!!!!
Very useful indeed. Thanks Dave!
This was really really helpful, very clever way of combining the use of different tools
Very clever use of unlikely features to get the desired mask
Excellent. Used Affinity for years, never seen this. Great tip!
Necessity is sometimes the mother of invention. It bugged me for ages that I couldn't do this. Then I found that I can.

Amazing, thank you
That works! thank you

Good idea, Pedro. I'm working on something similar and will see if I can incorporate your suggestion.

Neat and clever but a lot to absorb before I can use it
Before, after, before, after?
Yes, I could have done that. Thanks for the nudge, Johnny. I'll try to do it more in future.
