Hollywood may very well be 'dead' but I think cinema still has a place. I've watched Godzilla Minus One, Sisu, Godland, and the Sound of Freedom in the theatre this year, and very much would have regretted it if I had of missed out on that experience and just watched them at home on TV instead
I saw SISU this past summer! The best film I've seen since "Everything Everywhere All At Once" . . . might have the name wrong. Both those films blew my mind.
Movies are dead for many reasons. Woke politics is one of them. Increasing ticket prices is another. They have also lost their competitiveness because TV uses the same tech, so the gap isn't what it used to be.
People like watching movies in the comfort of their home. Large screen tv's and a two story screen just doesn't do it anymore. Theatre experience is way too expensive for families. Not to mention, Hollywood only thinks tent pole films like Marvel, Disney etc..are what we want. Well, not all of us have kids, families etc.. Technology is good enough to watch the real great films rather than substandard AI'd crap.
I went to a theater 2 years ago in a mall to see Dune, but don't go to movie, bars, and events anymore. I can't afford them nor interested in the movies, events, bars, etc. of the 2020's. There were free tickets to The Sound of Freedom back in August, but I felt a risk of going. Many who did take up the offer going to see it, report there was no air conditioning nor customer service. Theaters are dead for our 4k screens are better than a projected movie. Dune wasn't very good, but theaters were a convenient break from homelessness for a few hours.
Sound of Freedom was a major success, what happened was that when it was becoming popular the powers that be saw uncomfortable truths, and leaned on the cinemas, hence the aircon problems. Despite that it cost buttons to make and made around $250 million.

It’s not just technology at play here. What programs on network TV are worth watching anymore? Most of it is horrible. Even the titles they use for programs are all so general & mundane. Nothing exciting to watch here. Then, they must give out Hollywood stars of fame & awards, so they give them out to no talent actors.
I recently watched "The Shift" at a theater. Entertaining movie and I missed the theater experience. Streaming is limiting new theatrical releases and I hate it.
Hollywood and actors have just become boring. Nothing new that isn’t a statement , pushing homosexuality, victimhood, or endless repeated of “new” old movies. Give me Eastwood.
last time I went to the cinema was to watch Gone in 60 seconds. The movie was ok until they jumped Eleanor over a bridge and ruined the movie! That was when I said fuck you to Hollywood.
We all realized we didnt really need movies afterall. It was something we did for fun, not something we would just continue to mindlessy do. Especially when they are just remakes and crap.
hollywood is absolutely dead and it’s honestly so sad, and the music industry is following the same path too. Ever since the introduction of the iphone, the entertainment industry has unfortunately met its match. It always leads back to the iphone.
Its not just that. As a Hollywood film maker, you are competing with your neighbors 16 year old kid, who has access to the same editing and effects technology that you do. The barriers to entry are falling. The aura of celebrities has gone, because social media has shown people that they are, in fact, not very talented and for the most part dumb (and annoying), and movies no longer have the appeal that they used to in an age of VR, games and social media. (And lets not bring A.I. into it). The Buggles should re-do their famous song, but this time the lyrics should be: ''Internet killed the Hollywood star''.
Show me a 16 yeras old kid who is able to make a full-lenght blockbuster with professional level of VFX. :D Nobody like that exists. Whole teams of overworked VFX artists work on one M-s*it-U movie, and don´t get me started on the cameramen, stuntmen, sound tech people... It can change in th future with advanced AI generators which will most likely be able to generate a full movie based on a text fed to them one day, but the technology is not even close to that yet. It´s impossible to singlehandedly make 300 mil. budget movie. Even if the neccessary budget is like 100 mil. Henry Cavil is a super-rich star and not even he can just buy the rights to The Witcher and create the show on his own.
Yeah, i meant that more in the sense of competition for eye-balls, for your time. A lot of people prefer to allocate their free time nowadays to watching UA-cam videos instead of a movie. On the other hand.....i do think that it is possible for a kid to create a super low budget flick or even an indie with good production values/quality, with the current available technology, even more so than when Sam Raimi made Evil Dead with largely improvised equipement back in 1981. @@Mouse_Metal
Streaming isn't doing well. Movies are not supported because the industry is trying to push a narrative down our throats. Then the arrogant celebrity who shoves their political and cultural views on the public has turned the people away. They should stick to their day job.
I couldn't care less. The movies they produce are simply said braindead and this bunch of actors who live way beyond their mental capacity are so exhausting. This endless glorification of violence is hopefully coming to an end finally. Eveybody who was exposed to real violence in reality knows how profoundly disturbing and traumatizing such an expirience can be.
Living without TV for 18 years, I'd love to go to movies again. It can be accomplished in 2 simple steps: 1) Make something I'd actually like to see. 2) Stop lying to my friends and family, making them afraid to be around me. Problem solved. 😏
You're so right westerns were really big but they were stories like McClintock with John Wayne it's a classic. I miss the days when movies had a story to them and it wasn't everybody had to die.

Making the worst movies, staring the worst role models and charging a fortune for people to see it 😬 All at a time where the home viewing experience is better than ever, piracy is easier than ever and people are more reluctant to risk getting covid by cramming into a theatre next to strangers 🤷 the perfect storm. Haven’t been in decades. I can wait for it to be on tv. Not paying $20 plus food for any movie. Plus, it’s all sequel, prequel and remake. Nothing original or new. Or it’s all woke. Not wasting my time or money
For me at least, no point in going to the theaters any more. They are no longer the rare spectacle they once were. Too expensive. Got other things to do that are more fun and engaging than sitting in front of a screen in a room with a bunch of strangers. Plus, I can just watch it from home in a month or two if I actually want to see the movie.
Amen. I’m from North Carolina in US. Used to love, love movies. It was my favorite pastime. Now I can’t stand them. All the woke garbage has ruined the industry. Now we buy old movies on DVD for entertainment .
With online streaming killing it, the last thing Hollywood needs to do is make movies trying to prove a narrative. How about make a good movie. I guarantee people will watch it it's a good movie.
The movies today are crap. I would rather watch an old film from years ago with great actors than watch the morons on screen today. I went to the movies and concerts for entertainment, not to be lectured. The plus side-I have saved a fortune by not supporting hollyweird and the rest! 😂
My last visit was to watch Ridley Scott's 'Napoleon,' two weeks ago. It was, from start to finish, irredeemably awful. Best described as 'Carry On Boney,' although it would have benefitted from Sid James, and Kenneth Williams, with Barbara Windsor as Josephine. Still, at least Lenny Henry wasn't chosen to play Wellington.
I was so looking forward to watching an epic movie about Napoleon, probably the greatest self made man ever. His energy, drive and conviction were unmatched. He changed the landscape of Europe for the better. After hearing it made Josphine the star, I couldn't bring myself to go watch it. Hopefully, someday, someone will have the balls to make a tv drama series documenting his life and all his battles. The potential for an epic drama would be limitless. There are so many characters to pull from, his Marshals, generals political figures of the day it could bring in the revolution. But no doubt it to woukd be destroyed by box ticking wokesters
The theater in our small city in NE BC, to buy the ticket and get some popcorn and a pop will set you back $50-$60. Who has that kind of disposable cash these days for a single movie, that's the same as 4 months of streaming Netflix. Most people simply cannot afford the luxuries any more. I don't have satellite/fiber TV since it costs more than my entire power bill every month.
Spot on. A lot to unpack here. Any industry that can cut the balls off of Indiana Jones has a serious problem. I LOVE going to movie theaters. I would go all the time if there was anything worth watching. These days it's all dark, dreary, uninspired apocalyptic crap. Ever heard of lighting? Ever heard of actual relatable humor as opposed to the insufferable, oppressive, snarky woke sniping that has taken over? There is ZERO creativity in evidence. Everything is a remake or a sequel. Superhero schmooperhero. I don't go to movies to be preached to or endure pandering to some small demographic. AI is an eternal bore, as is anything that is overproduced. The music industry is bereft of quality for the same reason. My favorite band is any garage band churning out some gritty take that sounds like humans made it. The movie executives got together to design a horse and what we got was a camel. Until they they realize that they themselves are CLUELESS, and do the only thing they're good for - shelling out money and start employing people on the basis of merit and not their demographic identity, and turn over the creative process to people with a scintilla of imagination and talent, the industry will stay in the grave and I'll be staying home watching Lucy reruns.
The actors have forgotten they are actors and believe they they are here to tell us who to vote for, what to buy, who we should like etc they need to realise they are not demigods and if they cant or won't do the job they are paid for then they should quit!
Yes, it's much better watching movies at home without being surrounded by inconsiderate noisy people. It's cheaper and I can pause the movie if I need to go to the loo!!
when actors try to dictate the medical care and that doctors should get paid "government" low salaries, then hollywood/actors/directors/writers/producers etc should also get paid low government wages. Why should hollywood get high paying salaries? there should be government vouchers for free movies, right?
There are a few movies that are better on the big screen. David Leans movies ie: Lawrence of Arabia, Dr. Zhivago, Ryan’s Daughter etc. His movies have big panoramic scenes that lose their grandeur on a DVD screen. Also, Spartacus and Ben Hur. If Hollywood made more movies like those it would revive their industry. You’re right about the general public rejecting woke crap being shoved down their throats. It’s really crazy that they keep trying to foist that philosophy on us to their detriment.
Why should I go to the movies? Cate Blanchett is now ponsing around like some political know all and is a joke. I'm sick of these actors that can't put two words together unless a writer does it for them telling us what to do. Their arrogance has no bounds, so why do I need to pay their wages through their franchising bullshit movies? to all actors who want to go down the political look at me road, GET STUFFED
The movies I would watch in the cinema usually aren´t released for the cinemas in my country. It´s just endless line of w0ke remakes, sequels and prequels. It´s unwatchable, deliberately vandalized garbage.
Yup, I wrote a romantic comedy, raise $5m in private finance, and then was told I was not allowed to direct my own movie because I was not a woman, and I had to hire a woman to re-write my script… investors ran!
There may be a silver lining if Hollywood is dying or even dead. It's opened up the entertainment market to newcomers like Daily Wire who now produce films people want to see.
I completely agree, I sit through new releases for 23/24 and there is just nothingvIvwant to see. They are just CHI there are no good movies and good acting. The only actors shoved in our face are the favourites like Mark Ruffalo who is just awful but because he is super woke, this is what we get.

People don't go to the movies anymore??? .... Piers, you amaze me. You figured this all out by yourself 😂
easy fix
turn off the idiot box and walk out the door
Only because everything that they dish up is garbage.
The Game Award’s Is More Popular Than The Oscar’s
Crazy but true
One is about rich people smelling each other's farts, the other is actually entertaining
@@t2av159 even mrbeast videos have more popularity than the Oscar’s
Movies are dead for many reasons. Woke politics is one of them. Increasing ticket prices is another. They have also lost their competitiveness because TV uses the same tech, so the gap isn't what it used to be.
💯 absolutely!!! 🙏👍👊💥
For years now, if I sniff the tiniest bit of woke in a movie or TV show, I won't watch it.
The Oscars and the Global Globes are more akin to Maoist struggle sessions than the celebration of American film.
Sound of Freedom was a major success, what happened was that when it was
becoming popular the powers that be saw uncomfortable truths, and leaned on the
cinemas, hence the aircon problems. Despite that it cost buttons to make and
made around $250 million.

Bring back white men to the silver screen. Change will follow.
Since covid we almost never go to the movies and lets be honest they are all crap. Marvel, starwars have destroyed themselves.
last time I went to the cinema was to watch Gone in 60 seconds.
Not just the wokeness etc etc... but damn......it costs a bl00dy fortune to take the kids to the pics now
And they regurgitate those Marvel movies enough!
hollywood is absolutely dead and it’s honestly so sad, and the music industry is following the same path too.
Go woke
Go broke
I'd rather watch Casablanca for the sixtieth time than anything Hollywood puts out today.
Streaming isn't doing well. Movies are not supported because the industry is trying to push a narrative down our throats. Then the arrogant celebrity who shoves their political and cultural views on the public has turned the people away. They should stick to their day job.
I refuse to go and pay for woke trash.
I couldn't care less. The movies they produce are simply said braindead and this bunch of actors who live way beyond their mental
capacity are so exhausting. This endless glorification of violence is hopefully coming to an end finally. Eveybody who was exposed
to real violence in reality knows how profoundly disturbing and traumatizing such an expirience can be.
Living without TV for 18 years, I'd love to go to movies again.
It can be accomplished in 2 simple steps:
1) Make something I'd actually like to see.
2) Stop lying to my friends and family, making them afraid to be around me.
Problem solved. 😏
They should make something else except super heroes.
You're so right westerns were really big but they were stories like McClintock with John Wayne it's a classic. I miss the days when movies had a story to them and it wasn't everybody had to die.
@@cwhyharris7473 people are so tired of seeing these super heroes years after years. Its not diversity problem because many other media which are not include white people but people are watching now like Chinese, Indian and Turkiye. Every one choose their own alternative option.
Superheroes are fine, if the viewer is under 10 years-old.
willy wonka vol.8
Spot on
Go woke -go broke.
Please bring back the Judeo christinity morals back the the movies !
Making the worst movies, staring the worst role models and charging a fortune for people to see it 😬
All at a time where the home viewing experience is better than ever, piracy is easier than ever and people are more reluctant to risk getting covid by cramming into a theatre next to strangers
🤷 the perfect storm. RIP bozo's
Johny depp $300 million pay to star in pirates of the Caribbean 6 (a franchise that exhausted it's magic long ago) 💀 you guys will be paying like $10 out of your ticket price just so he can earn that.
I can't wait to get my hands on that book!!!!
No decent movies. Too much woke in new shows. All they do is reboot old shows. No new ideas. Hollywood is dead that’s ok by me
what a bizarre way to end a clip.
With online streaming killing it, the last thing Hollywood needs to do is make movies trying to prove a narrative. How about make a good movie. I guarantee people will watch it it's a good movie.
Everything is either a remake or reboot. Creativity is dead
Yeah disappointing. Nice cinematography for a few scenes but washed up Brit tabloid script based on political cartoons.
Agreed I left the movie feeling like I couldn’t wait to get out of there.
a wasted opportunity.. instead of a story about Napoleon the tyrant and military genius, it was about a simp for his first wife!
That creates an opportunity for something new. Why is nobody taking it?
The actors have forgotten they are actors and believe they they are here to tell us who to vote for, what to buy, who we should like etc they need to realise they are not demigods and if they cant or won't do the job they are paid for then they should quit!
I can stay at home and watch the movie in private on a better screen and i get to filter out all the woke BS.
Derangement syndrome alert ⚠️
Yes, it's much better watching movies at home without being surrounded by inconsiderate noisy people. It's cheaper and I can pause the movie if I need to go to the loo!!
when actors try to dictate the medical care and that doctors should get paid "government" low salaries, then hollywood/actors/directors/writers/producers etc should also get paid low government wages. Why should hollywood get high paying salaries? there should be government vouchers for free movies, right?
Yeah
You American?
Oh I do hope so.👍🏻
There are a few movies that are better on the big screen.
And it couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of people.
"Woke killed the Hollywood star" need a remake of that
The technology changed to streaming and youtube, cinema is obsolete.
Hollywood is now 'dead'...great to hear!
Amen!
The movies I would watch in the cinema usually aren´t released for the cinemas in my country.
It´s just endless line of w0ke remakes, sequels and prequels. It´s unwatchable, deliberately vandalized garbage.
Gosh...I wonder what happened... ...says NO one...
Why spend money to watch a movie that has been made by a computer programmer with a few actors superimposed over the top?
Yup, I wrote a romantic comedy, raise $5m in private finance, and then was told I was not allowed to direct my own movie because I was not a woman, and I had to hire a woman to re-write my script… investors ran!
There may be a silver lining if Hollywood is dying or even dead. It's opened up the entertainment market to newcomers like Daily Wire who now produce films people want to see.
Go Woke go Broke
I completely agree, I sit through new releases for 23/24 and there is just nothingvIvwant to see. They are just CHI there are no good movies and good acting. The only actors shoved in our face are the favourites like Mark Ruffalo who is just awful but because he is super woke, this is what we get.
Mamet nails it as usual. "Put that coffee down. Coffee is for closers!" 😅 honestly I wish he would do a daily podcast.
People do go to the movies, when there's something decent that they want to watch on. The problem is, there isn't.
