Thank you for your suggestion. I have citadel and Vallejo washes for minis and it doesn’t quite work for me at this scale... however I’ve since began using an airbrush with Vallejo paints and it works miracles!
Good designs and clever use of materials - instead of using drybrush you can use inks which is alot quicker or you can place material in front of spray paints to get a mottled effect on the armor. Search spray paint effects plenty of videos available.
It's a beautiful build. But every time I see Red Sonja armor I'm just reminded of how impractical it is. Truly only in light-hearted fantasy will this type of armor actually protect anything.
I am going to recommend the use of a respirator when you are sanding or using any rotary tools on the foam, as the 'dust' is not good for your lungs. Awesome video btw!
I watch some history and comic stuff so I assume that’s why this showed up in my recommendations? I’m glad it did. I’m somewhat in awe of the attention to detail. It was interesting to follow the process. You’ve really nailed it. Well done!
The armor looked awesome. Really great.. If you don’t know, however. The leather sleeve was unnecessary.. different artist had slight variations on the costume throughout the years. But historically she had two shoulder pad one on each shoulder. And no sleeve.. The whole sleeve pot was unnecessary, but I understand you were trying to copy the statue. And you did a great job about it. Love the video.. and I’ve subscribed on the basis of this one video. Keep up the great work.
I thought this would be more pattern-based as I am making mine out of actual metal. As there's not much of it, the weight is something I'll have to get used to, but that's what working out is for! Yeah!
As a huge Red Sonja fan, you really did her justice. I was blown away with the end result. I have the statue you based the cosplay off of, don't remember it having a belly button ring. Definitely subscribing for more of the amazing action
Your face & figure were such a perfect match to the figure of Red Sonja. Very well done, I'm always so impressed at how some people can just make cosplay outfits and the tremendous amount of time they take to create...
As for the dry-brushing of the armor to create depth ... I come from miniature painting, and would have washed instead. I take it at scale thats not possible because physics? Would be hell of a lot faster :D
Yeah I’ve painted minis too and use washes and inks and it doesn’t quite work the same. Since making this costume I now use an air brush for the crevices and it goes much much faster. I kind of enjoy spending the time painting though, it’s a zen thing for me. I’m guessing you might know what I mean as a mini painter
This is awesome work! I especially like the gorget/choker and the detail of the armor pieces. As a lifelong fan of Robert E. Howard's work (Especially Sonja and Solomon Kane), I wonder...do you ever get any grief at cons for choosing a character like Sonja as your subject? Some people see chainmail bikini and all they think of is "cake".
Since I made this during the pandemic I haven't yet been able to wear it at a con, so I'm not sure if I'll get any grief or not. Hopefully I'll be able to wear her to a con in 2021, if not there's always next year

I think the art of cosplay is underappreciated, your video just shows how talented you really have to be to pull off such great costumes. Most of us non-cosplayer geeks and nerds like myself generally see these outfits and say she/he looks great in that, we don't ever think how much time and effort you folks go through to actually put the outfits together. Great job, keep up the good work, we nerds and geeks definitely appreciate your efforts and those of others, even if we are generally abysmal failures at showing it.
You are very talented...im very happy to see your hard work paid off well, the master piece you created look more amazing and beautiful in you...keep up the good work.loved your effort and hard work...!
Hm... I made my historical (norman) armor and clothes when I was a member of a traditional association. I think history tried to simplify things and my stuff are best for protection, your modern materials and the cosplay expectation gave you much more work I think. Good job, the end result is accurate and lovely.
Nice work Dominika you did a better job creating Sonja's chest plates and loincloth than Hollywood will do on the movie their making. Sonja was a skilled sword master with great speed & stamina. She was not a armored tank. She also wanted her opponent to know he was dispatched by a woman. Sonja wore more armor than Conan, he only wore a fur loincloth. I think I like the chainmail better. Since you put in the effort I'll pick up one of your Dynamite covers. So Dominika my question would be can you drink as hard as Sonja? Lol.
I’m excited for the new film to see what the costume designer comes up with. I’m sure she will be more clothed than just a bikini, and I’ll be ok with that as long as she still looks like a nimble badass. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) no, I can’t drink as hard as her haha. I’m sure my liver is grateful for it
@@SundaySlaysCosplay If they make another Conan movie should his classic barbarian look be changed from a fur loincloth to britches, lol. No I wouldn't, well maybe a leather loincloth. Ancient civilizations morality was not the same as 2021 morality which is getting bland & boring.. But nice job Dominika you nailed the look.
