    Like many other commenters, I’ve never been into cosplay myself, but always respected those that do. I knew it wasn’t a simple thing to pull it off well, but after watching your video… wow. It was very interesting to see the materials and methods and how many hours did this take? Labor of love for sure. Well done and the amount of detail was crazy. Glad UA-cam decided to throw this my way. I now know more and will appreciate the cosplay world all the more after seeing this.

    Wow! Very well done, looks damn elegant, and gives me hope that the live action Red Sonja movie (that finally casted the lead) can wear a chainmail bikini and not look tacky or tasteless.
    Slap on a bit more leather and they can maintain the same barbarian chic without utterly changing it.

    "Sword and sorcery" is sadly no longer largely know and popular. But it is heartwarming to see, that this genre still has very talented and dedicated fans. Very interesting video, thanks for sharing.

      what are you talking about? D&D has never been as popular as it is now

    • @Setnja92
      @Setnja92 3 роки тому

      @@RickBomhof D&D is not original or main source material for "Sword and sorcery" and the genre is standing proud even without it, even if in the shade now. Therefore i do not take popularity of D&D alone as a index of large scale popularity of "Sword and sorcery". I am not saying, that D&D is bad though. If this is what made you so angry. Nice, that you like it, but i do not care about D&D. I like book and film production much more. And i think, in film production particulary, there was really not much done in last decade.
      Can you tell me a name of a new book (serie) in this genre? Can you tell me something about new TV/HBO/Netflix serie in this genre? Can you point at at least three films from this decade in this genre?
      There was one Conan movie (2011), that kinda suckes. Three "Dungeons & Dragons" films with questionable qualities (i love the second though). "The Wolfhound", which is very good, but over 15 years old! Days of Red Sonja, Kull, Conan, Sindibad, Tarzan and Xena are sadly long gone now.
      If you would ask me, what i think by "largely popular" i would say, when even *the big* studio takes this material and invest big money into it, because they know, that it is so popular, that it will at least pays for production with the sold cinema tickets. When company makes new toyline and so on. When even the money hungry sharks do open eyes and says: "This is apparently really popular, lets make some money from it!" "Sword and sorcery" does have dedicated fans, as i said in my original comment, but it isn't now so largely popular, as it was.

      When's the last time you saw a good film in any genres? Besides, movies aren't what drives genres fiction, and never have been(else you could name even one example that wasn't derivative), so how many have been made at all, let alone rescently, isn't really a good guage of a genre's health.

    • @Setnja92

      @@horsemumbler1 What the hell is this: "When's the last time you saw a good film in any genres?" This is some new punk, or what? How can i take you seriously, when you argue with this? Of course i saw good new movies! And even in niche(r) genres :D

      I said nothing about D&D whatsoever.
      You puff and bluster about movies... and yet can't name a single good one from this decade, then have the nerve to suggest I'm the one here whoe doesn't appear credible. I rest my case.
      And for your information, the "source" of "Swords and Sorcery is the Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser books by Fritz Leiber, one of which is titled "Swords and Sorcery."

    Good designs and clever use of materials - instead of using drybrush you can use inks which is alot quicker or you can place
    material in front of spray paints to get a mottled effect on the armor. Search spray paint effects plenty of videos available.

    The armor looked awesome. Really great.. If you don’t know, however. The leather sleeve was unnecessary.. different artist had slight variations on the costume throughout the years. But historically she had two shoulder pad one on each shoulder. And no sleeve.. The whole sleeve pot was unnecessary, but I understand you were trying to copy the statue. And you did a great job about it. Love the video.. and I’ve subscribed on the basis of this one video. Keep up the great work.

    As for the dry-brushing of the armor to create depth ... I come from miniature painting, and would have washed instead. I take it at scale thats not possible because physics?
    Would be hell of a lot faster :D

    • @SundaySlaysCosplay
      @SundaySlaysCosplay  3 роки тому

      Yeah I’ve painted minis too and use washes and inks and it doesn’t quite work the same. Since making this costume I now use an air brush for the crevices and it goes much much faster. I kind of enjoy spending the time painting though, it’s a zen thing for me. I’m guessing you might know what I mean as a mini painter

    I think the art of cosplay is underappreciated, your video just shows how talented you really have to be to pull off such great costumes.
    Most of us non-cosplayer geeks and nerds like myself generally see these outfits and say she/he looks great in that, we don't ever think how much time and effort you folks go through to actually put the outfits together.

    Nice work Dominika you did a better job creating Sonja's chest plates and loincloth than Hollywood will do on the movie their making. Sonja was a skilled sword master with great speed & stamina. She was not a armored tank. She also wanted her opponent to know he was dispatched by a woman. Sonja wore more armor than Conan, he only wore a fur loincloth. I think I like the chainmail better. Since you put in the effort I'll pick up one of your Dynamite covers. So Dominika my question would be can you drink as hard as Sonja? Lol.

      @@SundaySlaysCosplay If they make another Conan movie should his classic barbarian look be changed from a fur loincloth to britches, lol. No I wouldn't, well maybe a leather loincloth. But Red Sonja does not wear a Bikini. She wore what was common in pre historic times before the Ancient Egyptians laid their first stone. They wore loincloths and very little else. Ancient civilizations morality was not the same as 2021 morality which is getting bland & boring.. But nice job Dominika you nailed the look.
