we had a powerpoint, on pvs-7bs, when i went to soi in 2009. then got issued 14s and had no idea wtf I was doing. its funny how much things change (like what youre issued now) and how things stay the same (training, mannerisms in your speech) good shit bro, stay safe, thanks for the knowledge 🤙
Same with the Army dude. I was a medic for an infantry battalion in the 101st and we were never taught much about NVGs. We didn't even learn about them in basic if I recall. Thankfully I had good NCOs to teach me about NVGs. Will be purchasing my own dual tube nods soon. Thanks for the info homie
well that kinda ends the debate in my head. Was thinking about PVS-31A, 1531, and DTNVS. But... looking cool isn't everything. Think I'll just get RNVGs with the best l3 unfilmed WP tubes available. One thing that is holding me back is the lack of manual gain. But I hear from a lot of people that it really isn't that big of a deal. Semper Fi.
Nice review bud, I’m a nonner in the ch-Air Force but I’m soon on my way to get out, and this is my next purchase/gift for myself for finishing my enlistment lol.
Sorry to hear the MC is not supplying the training you have self taught. Your presentation rocks. This from a Marine who only trained on Starlights with ABC. Thanks. Semper Fi
DTNVSs are in the same weight range with specific lenses as PVS31As but lack a remote port, Manual Gain adjustment, and have less clear lenses than the PVS31As even with the higher end and lighter lenses. They do have optional IP stops though. And use CR123As vs AA batteries.
RNVG is not using the same battery connector as PVS-31, it's LEMO and 31 is Fischer so thats the reason it's not fixing. BTW both connectors are differs the way it's secure in connector, so you just need get Fischer (from battery pack - BOTH original and replica) => LEMO connector or you also can use just LEMO LEMO if it's original one (the use a little other connector, it can work in battery pack, but you wont be able to pull it out as it will stuck)
That’s the name of the connector I couldn’t remember it for the life of me thanks man. Also I’m pretty ok with the way it connects currently. Idk if I’d trust myself playing with wires too much.
Please share your expertise with us then because I’ve been in 11 years as an infantry rifleman and haven’t learned anything. I’ve spent more of my time correcting knowledge people think they know. Had somebody say they use phosphorus from white phosphorus mortar rounds to amplify light inside the image intensifier.
I understand the your point of the helmet being in the way after flipping your nods up with them articulated closer to the helmet but if you know you're not going to be using them for a bit it greatly reduces the felt weight since they are not sticking way off the helmet. Plus if you're running duels it you can articulate one up and run them as a mono if you want to retain natural nightvision in one eye to see the environment naturally. You could also just articulate both up if you need to just get them out of the way but if you're familiar with your gear you should be able to just flip the mount up just as fast. Personally I like articulation but I can also see how someone would just want to set their IPD and just have a simpler setup that they don't have to mess with too much. While there is a lot of pros to articulation sometimes simpler is better.
Im saving up for the RNVG's. i know theyre probably not the best option out there for features, but i want my first duals to be as idiot proof as possible, lol. in all honesty, i wish they had the bright light auto shut off feature or a flip up turn off feature. picking them up from TNVC by the way.
@@jonathanmcleod9551 @Jonathan Mcleod For real?? wow, i was actually considering those for purchase too, lol. from the many reviews of nods out there, almost all of the reviewers went with the articulation models, and seeing that the dtnvs's were more ruggedized than the dtnvg's, that is why i was considering them. so how did you end up breaking them, if you dont mind me asking? and did you get them fixed?
@@darkstarninja5978 long story short, fell off my helmet (I’m 5’10) and landed onto rubber stall mat I was standing on. That was enough to snap one of the articulating joints. Took act in black 6 months to fix.
RNVG’s are great. I have 31’s at work and don’t like the articulation because if I bump into something it will move vs the RNVG will stay in place. The articulation is also another failure point.
Honestly I don’t get too into the weeds when it comes into tube specs just because a lot of it is just number most people won’t understand I can try to do a video on it
I guess where I'm coming from is that you'll see tube 'A' has all these seemingly random numbers for specs and costs $1800 but tube 'B' has different numbers and costs $3200. Of course one could assume the more expensive tube is better, but how much better? Thanks for the reply!
Also instead of using the IR on NVGs, it's better to use the IR flash on something like a Peq15 which will not blind people like it would if you were using the IR light on some Nods
@@225degreesNot sure, but I've heard the main reason is if you are wearing them over a long time the white gives less eye strain. I've seen some videos where higher quality greens(unfilmed) out perform lower quality whites(filmed). But it sounds like all things being equal (clarity, brightness, contrast) white is better if you are wearing for hours and hours.
@@jasonruggen1511 Naturally a higher spec tube will outperform a lower spec tube, that's how specs work. You're right, when used for extended periods of time the white phos is less strain on the eyes. Hence why white phos is the go to standard now.
lol yeah that doesn’t sound like much fun at all but I will say we cheaply got the 31D’s which are made by elbit and still sit around the military standard of approximately 1800 FOM so although they’re white phosphorus they don’t have the best image quality also the gentex helmet we get issued is heavier than the full cut helmets we used to get issued but that’s just me knit picking
This is one of the most knowledgeable comparisons I've seen to date
Thank you i really appreciate that
I don't know what you're talking about. When I was an 0311 I got to look through a PVS-7 for like 5 whole minutes. I felt very prepared.

I love my RNVGs. with the battery pack, you cant go wrong. Also, i wanted the most robust system i could get, as I'm spending my own $$$$.

Manual gain in my opinion is kind of a big deal but you can kind of circumvent that with products like the tasier eclipses or the iris lens

what battery pack is the RNVG made for since the pvs-31 one doesnt lock in?

what does the patch mean at 6:35 on your helmet. I see it everywhere
It’s the black beard patch I just needed something to hold the cable and the black beard patch was just available

Do you have an opinion on unfilmed vs. filmed and green vs. white?
Not the poster, but white is where it's at. Much better image clarity and contrast compared to green. Less fatigue for your eyes as well.
