  • How to install a killswitch on a budget.
    Tools you'll need..
    1/2 inch drill bit = $10
    circular file = $10
    soldering iron = $10
    solder = $2.50
    Paying someone else...
    14 days without your guitar
    $60-$100 labor
    They may also insist on using their killswitches or have a buddy that they want you to buy a killswitch from
    A chance that they could fuck up your guitar

    Hey, if you want to make your solder joint look smooth, turn up the heat, hold the wire in place, then hold the iron on that solder joint until it liquefies, then lift your iron off. It should leave a nice finish. But really, you should always "tin" the end of your iron first, this is done by heating up the iron, taking solder(rosincore solder) and glazing the tip before any soldering is done. Then you have to "tin" the wire that you are connecting. This will make sure that the solder bleeds into the other on the surface that you are attaching it to. Then it's time to melt or "tin" the area that you want to solder to. You need to glaze/Tin the surface of where you want the solder to melt to, or your wire to connect to. This will make it stick and bleed together in a professional and shiny surface -- but most of all, a secure connection that won't break. Cheers though, nice job.

      And don't forget to add flux, makes it a million times easier to get a clean connection.

    Does wiring it to the volume pot, rather than the output Jack make for a cleaner signal? The instructions with mine said to wire it to the output Jack and I’m getting a static noise when I press it.

    i talked to the owner of iron age e said the proper size for the kill switches are 16mm nothalf inch thats why its so snug after you drill. i have a legator 8 with the kill switch were the tone was reverse of your fan fret as i have this habit of checking the volume knob everey few seconds involuntarily and it woulda freaked me out if it wasnt there, thats why i i did it that way as opposed to your way just prefernce anyway rock on dude ,peace from rthe far east.

      When I put one in my 8 string, I removed the tone altogether, then moved the volume to the old tone hole which left me with the open hole from the volume. That little bowl shape around the killswitch was there. He just widened it, as did I with mine
