We have a old Massey Ferguson hammer mill a lot like that one. We run it with an old 4010 John Deere tractor, 90hp and it’ll pull even it down if we put too much in it at once. We use it all the time for hog feed and cow feed. So far it’s held up well but I’m just waiting for something to break and I figure parts will probably be hard to find for it
I'd put a gate or stick panel in the center of the food trough to keep them from having one hog the food. Put a 2×8 up on the corn wagon so your son can slide feed bags down into the truck. It sure is fun watching all the stuff you all do. Ohh and free usually comes with problems, but thankfully it got the feed ground before breaking.
I really enjoyed watching you break out the hammer mill ! Dang that sucked it broke down unloading it . Are the parts cheap enough that it's worth fixing ? If not scrap it and use the money to buy an electric one no more than you will grind but dang it's nice to do big batches . We had a hammer mill just about like that growing up but we still took loads of corn to the mill to be ground . Thanks for sharing and have a great New Year !
That tender lean is some good stuff coop can order it for you also if you put them in a smaller pen they will gain weight faster and be a lot more tender
I love how Frank has to go when you start greasing thing 😅😅😅😅 tell me he hasn't done that before lol thanks for sharing keep the cameras rolling from Florida
Hello love watching your videos. Have yall thought about making a funnel to mount on the corn holder to use for baging the corn instead of clombing in there
35 years ago my husband and I used to milk cows and we would buy truck loads of corn and soybeans from Iowa and grind them ourselves mixing and adding minerals to the feed. This saved us a lot of money and it was a time before the GMOs. Looking back it was not the best practices but it was so much better than what happened after we got out.
When your feed bill is higher than your milk check, who's making the money, and who's doing the work? Brokers, agents and other "middle men" suck off of the hard work of other men like ticks.
Same goes with almost everything agriculture! We have a very screwed up system! Milk. Meat, eggs and produce all have the majority of the profits going to the wrong people!
The whole system is screwed up. A small farmer should be able to sell to a local market! We could have made a great living selling milk for .75 a gallon to locals at the time when we had to sell to the industry for 3 dollars a hundred pounds. That is a huge difference when the store was charging 2.75 a gallon. A gallon of milk weighs 8.6 pounds and 100 pounds of milk is close to 11 1/2 gallons. There is a huge difference in the milk fat also. The factory takes the fat and creates expensive products like butter and cream and such and then even the whole milk is definitely not whole. Sorry to get on my soap box even 30 years later it is a very sore topic for me. My husband went to driving a truck and my marriage fell apart.
Well I would say that bull didn't hit his head hard enough, lol. You grinding corn reminds me of myself putting grain through the roller mill. Seems like the auger, gearbox or something else gives me grief. You folks have a good evening.

Jimmy crack corn and I don't care Jimmy crack corn and I don't care Jimmy crack corn and I don't care but Frank sure better O'mill did good all things considering 👍🐝
Seems like everything the pastor gave you is broken down equipment that doesn't work well. His intentions were good but I don't think he did you any favors. The other homesteaders that I watch buy used equipment that performs more than one task and makes their chores faster and easier. No one buys new equipment. One man bought one basic piece then gets attachments for different jobs. A couple men share their equipment for their corn crops. Farming is difficult at best, it takes a LOT of work to keep one productive these days. Just talking, have a great day, later 👋

You are exactly right! The way you did it was put in good honest, hard work to make a living!
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures it worked really well until Kraft dropped the price on the milk and we couldn’t afford to feed the cows anymore. We had 90.

that grinder has a chute that will raise the corn out of the lower door on the grain cart into the feeder
I’ve tried it and it’s not working…… so many things not working on it I’m going to try to cut it apart and make a custom version.

Yes indeed!!!
Will there a difference in quality of meat between a steer and a bull?
Yes…. Mostly because of the difference in the breed. But I’m hoping that the grain will make the bull good enough!
