Peter Garrett was President(?) of the Australian Conservation Council for a few years and after the Oils he went into Federal Parliament to make change from the inside, but left after the first term(?) disappointed at how his hands were tied. Much better as an activist on the outside of politics. Thanks for appreciating theseguys. They are examples of the best of Oz.
That is often what happens to people who get on the inside. They can't get the change they want to done. Activism is more beneficial and social anyhow.
The vibe at an Oils concert is off the charts. They are very good live. You've got so much more music to discover from down under. The Angels, Rose Tattoo, Jet, Powderfinger, Screaming Jets, Daddycool, Mondo rock, Snow patrol, Dragon, Inxs, Grinspoon, The Radiators. This is only the tip of the iceberg. I'm sure a few more people will add to that small list of legendary bands. Thanks VK for your videos. ✌️
I love the energy. It's next level. I know of jet and snow patrol. They had a hit song each here over in the States. "Are you gonna be my girl" for Jet and "Chasing Cars" for Snow Patrol. I am definitely interested in checking more of them out. Not sure why I never did after hearing the radio hit songs. Thank you for all those rabbit holes, we have A LOT to cover on here 🙏❤️
Knew you would love this, 40secs in and am sure will be right :) edit. I was right, and good idea to find more of this concert, another good concert was in front of the exxon building in NY after an oil spill in Gulf of Mexico or something, basically Oils doing an anti oil protest. I got it on DVD.
I've had the honor of attending a couple of Midnight Oil shows and I can assure you that everyone in the audience was matching that chaotic energy. Especially if you were close to the stage. Peter Garret is a very imposing figure. 6'4 and flailing around like a maniac, he was like a tree on speed. If you were walking out of an Oils show, you were soaking wet and on 10. Btw, in the 70s and 80s most of the well known bands we consider legends today got their start in the pub/bar scene. They learned how to actually play their instruments and jam like beasts by doing it nightly. If you sucked, you got booed off stage and the bar never let you come back. There were a thousand other hungry musicians waiting for your slot, so no slacking was allowed. You are right. We don't have that level of musicianship anymore, but those were some good times to go to concerts. If you haven't already, you need to check out INXS live from Wembley stadium in 1991. You could choose anything. They were literally known as one of the best live acts of the day. Also up there as far as live acts go would be U2. Try Bad from Live Aid in 1985. Also, Duran Duran- Careless Memories, from their live film, As The Lights Go Down. You can never go wrong with Van Halen or Cheap Trick either.
You can't go wrong checking out this whole concert - it is a great snapshot of one of the great live bands ever at the height of their powers. If you don't end up doing the whole concert definitely check out 'Power and the Passion' Another more current live band that will blow your mind is 'Hold Me' - by The Teskey Brothers - Live at the Forum Melbourne, ua-cam.com/video/86DAAATkTUA/v-deo.html&ab_channel=TheTeskeyBrothers or more old school with as much energy as Pete is Doc Neeson 'Shadow Boxer' - The Angels ua-cam.com/video/uGUYUeY5eO8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=onedayillgeteven
Midnight Oil formed in 1972 and have sold over 20 million albums. Their lead singer Peter Garrett, who joined The Oils in 1973, and has been a Minister in Australian parliament as well. I’ve heard Chisel and the Oils caught up and jammed together. Would have loved the performance to be for the public to see.
The oils deffo bring the energy and raised awareness about the indigenous peoples plight in this country . Another band that comes to mind about bringing the energy try The Saints - I’m Stranded . One of the original punk era bands started in oz . Kool reaction mate 👍
@vkmusic2727 hey mate if you want the most aussie rock song ever you have to go with this famous track where the audience wrote half the lyrics ua-cam.com/video/6jLoxp8EmoM/v-deo.htmlsi=jxUwKauxnJVFch9w The Angel's- am I ever going see your face again
I loved your reaction. First saw Midnight Oil in Adelaide, South Australia 1984. Mind blowing. Saw them multiple times after throughout Australia. Each member of the band is so talented. At that same concert in 1984, Spy Vs Spy were the opening act, fell in love with them as well, and bought their albums going forward. In 1987 they released a single called Sallie Anne, a song about 'On the 6th February 1986, the body of 31-year-old Sallie-Anne Huckstepp was found floating in a pond in Centennial Park by a passing jogger. Her murder, which remains unsolved, appears to be a tragic lesson on the fate of whistleblowers brave enough to call out police corruption in New South Wales.' ua-cam.com/video/EJyILaW2I-s/v-deo.htmlsi=j6zxUWjl4IcJt6EI
We gotta finish up the show we had started with them! I love their vibe. So unique. I'll add that song to our list. That's a topic I'll probably go off on, so be prepared for that. Glad to have you here! Much love and blessings your way 🙏🏻💜

Another band from the crucible of pub rock the drums used to be nailed to the floor by the roadies to stop it walking around the stage.

One could describe their performance as “Frenetic” but that is their gold standard!!!!

That would be a very interesting performance to see.
Yes, definitely a band with talent and a conscience!
